So, first time Pathfinder play with a new campaign being started. but I have played D&D in 3.5 so I'm not entirely horrible (I Hope)
So I made a Cleric of Torag for tanking (I love clerics) My build is with my dice rolls:
Domain: Protection, Archon (Good)
Alignment: Lawful Good
Race: Human
STR: 16
Dex: 12
Con: 16(+2 from Racial)= 18
Int: 12
Wis: 15
Cha: 10
Feats:
Proficiency Tower Shields
Toughness
At work so I can't remember skills off the top of my head.
Will I be useful in holding the front line without heavy armor? Or should my Cleric buffs compensate for the lack of it for now until I can Prestige into Holy Vindicator?

1. Don't use a tower shield. Waste of a feat. Pick heavy armor instead. Or something else if you want to go vindicator anyway.
2. Toughness is ok-ish but not great. I'd take something else instead. Maybe Extra Channel if you plan to go vindicator?
3. 18 Con is a bit too much. I'd put that +2 into Strength. Helps to hit things and deal more damage. You need to be a threat in combat or you'll just be ignored.
4. In general, it's better to kill stuff faster than trying to outlast it. Tanking by AC and HP might not work out too well. Consider wielding your hammer two-handed to become even more of a threat (and kill stuff faster). Being an "offensive tank" also works better with the cleric's mostly offensife buffs.

My modifications in order to make it a cleric of Torag.
Domains: Good and Protection
Traits: Sacred Conduit, Fortune's Favored
1 F-Selective Channel, H- Quickdraw (in order to use a quickdraw shield)
2
3-Power Attack
4
5-Improved Initiative
6
7-Alignment Channel (Evil)
8-
9 HV1- Quicken Channel
10 HV2
11 HV3-Exotic Weapon Prof: Falcata
12 HV4
13 HV5-Critical Focus, Channel Smite
14 HV6
15 HV7-Staggering Critical
16 HV8
17 HV9-Quicken Spell
18 HV10
19 - Divine Interference

Is it a point buy? If yes, what?
The strategy is to use a warhammer and a quickdraw shield until lvl 11, when you take falcata proficiency. Falcata is nice because of the Divine Wrath feature of HV.

I think you're a bit too much on defense and not high enough on offense - if you're going to be a front-liner, you're going to want premium damage output AND tankability. Otherwise, the enemies will just leave you for last. Thus, if you want more defense, heavy armor >> shields. (HIGHLY recommend you 2-hand a weapon and get Power Attack.)
Have you looked at a Dwarf for this build? They're very tanky, very Torag, great with Heavy Armor, and if you have a spare feat you can take Steel Soul to get crazy-high saves.
Since you want Holy Vindicator, you might want to consider a level or two of Fighter. That way you get heavy armor for free, and you could get to 5 BAB a level earlier - Fighter 2/Cleric 4/Vindicator X vs. Cleric 7/Vindicator X. However, if you are the party's primary divine caster, I would just go with the latter; losing spell progression really hurts.

i know that multiclassing hurts for a full caster but if you do consider going dwarf instead, 1 level of fighter really might be a good idea... free heavy armor (that doesn't slow you down at all), free proficiency with the longhammer, and a free feat (for power attack)- and with only 1 level invested you'll still get new spell levels at the same time as an oracle. just something to consider.

this will also boost grealty your saves, with 1 feat it will give you +4 ! to all Vs spells.
and dwarven war axe.... 1 handed with shiled or 2 handed is amazing weapon.XMorsX |
The fighter will give a small boost in survivability and DPR at low lvls but will drag the build back when you get access to high lvl spells. Also, HV gives heavy armor proficiency. And reaching 9th vll spells at 20th lvl is only possible without dipping out of cleric.
Being Dwarf can be a good choice, if only woy can combine the trait Glory of Old with the feat Steel Soul. Change Sacred Conduit and Selective Channeling. You should ignore entirelly your channeling capabilities in combat, but you will have superb saves against spells and spell-like abilities.

Have you considered playing a Stonelord (paladin archetype for dwarf)? They make excellent tanks, you get abilities from the stalwart defender and you get to do all the thing that you would expect from a dwarf. You even get to have your own earth elemental pet, while gaining fortification , dr on your skin and natural armor. Also a stonelord can ignore metal and armor to strike all your heavy armored opponents like they wear nothing.
