No matter how bad the first item I read is I read the other, ocaisionally I end up voting for the first item.
Still, there have been a couple beauts.
Edit: Oh wow.
Hmm, the Honor system. I like the item, but I don't think that one will be too popular due to the subsystem.
I need to clarify my prior post. While the overall quality of writing appears to have improved, the names...ugh, the names.
I'm very much a fan of brevity.
Just tell me what the thing does!
:)
Huh, just got the same item twice. Welp, didn't vote for you the first time, won't be voting the se-
Oh.
Guess I'm voting for the repeat.
I just had to choose between gross or...something very not Superstar.

Hnnng, seen a lot of items that have the bold formatting on the title, where it doesn't format.
Oh...
Oh!
That's very, very clever. I think I may have just hit my first one destined for the Top 32. Very clever, indeed.

Next year, I hope someone submits an Elixir of Brain Bleach. I'd vote for it in a heartbeat.

Well, someone received a new thesaurus for Christmas...

Hello,
First time voter and submitter. After looking at about thirty pairings I have seen three I felt positive toward and one I have kept. As for the rest, this comes to mind.

Oh that's just mean putting that here...My first instinct is mash out...WHICH ONE?!
hehehehehe.
It has that full Caster Level flavor, but it has so few calories low a gp cost.
Identical wordcount pairing. Neat.

Pretty sure I saw this one on TV.
Edit: Valkur's strapping buttocks, I've seen them BOTH on TV.
Uh. That's an item right out of the Mythic Adventures book. Like, I thought someone was testing formatting and posted it by accident at first.
Heh, yeah. I saw one on that movie and another one on a late night infomercial.

Item that requires interaction with another magic item to function. Still, better than the item it was paired with.

This is definitely the downside to reading this thread. I'm super curious about a lot of the comments.

Seriously? That's not a wondrous item. It's not even another item masquerading as a wondrous item. We don't have a DQ button this year, do we? Oh well. The judges will purge it.
Humm, just realized I react badly to any item that is basically
"Let's buff wizards! Lets get rid of wizard limitations! Yeah and lets do that for cheap too!"
I will have to watch for that and try to be more fair, but I am seeing quite a few of those.

A few of these could benefit from an extra '0' in the Price and Cost lines.

Oh dear ... I just saw an item with an apology about the format in it.
Aha! There's the attunement. I've been missing all the attuning from last year.
Hmm, both items are kinda dull, but the vote has to go to the one that doesn't break the game.
Hmm, you know what's a great idea? Let's look at the old competitions, or the magic item section, file off a description, add our own, then call it our item. That's Superstar material, right? Right?

Saw my first camping item, and saw one with a joke name. Fortunately, design/mechanically speaking it was otherwise good, and better than its pair.

hehehehehe. Well, it can't all be bad news in here, can it? Some of these have to be good, right?
I just saw one that said you needed GM permission to use it. I kinda liked the item, but that line really seemed unnecessary to me.
crap... this year went by so fast i didn't realize i missed the chance to submit an item until i saw this thread :(
Orcus Of Undeath wrote: Oh dear ... I just saw an item with an apology about the format in it. Apparently the creator of this item said "Formatting? We don't need no stinkin' formatting!"
GAH, I want to vote for this item, but the formatting is so off that it shows a complete lack of rule-reading.
Just found my first solid Keep.
It is what I feel is solid middle of the pack for superstar material.
It's nice to run across something like that.
Jeff Lee wrote: Belladonna Blue wrote: Pretty sure I saw this one on TV. Was it being sold by Billy Mays? Yay! My shamwow of contact high! w00t! (Definitely not my actual submitted item.)
More joke names. The concept has to be really good to make me not pass on these; it's such a first strike against them.
Or the competition has to be really bad.
(I don't use the equal button.)
Jeff Lee wrote: Seriously? That's not a wondrous item. It's not even another item masquerading as a wondrous item. We don't have a DQ button this year, do we? Oh well. The judges will purge it. At least the one I just saw was arms/armor.
There have been some brutal run on sentences...
Three so far...clearly NOT wondrous items.
A little filigree, some attunement, complete disregard for game balance...ah, I remember this feeling from last year.
And I just got one where the author doesn't seem to be quite sure of the name of his item. Hm.
(Which is too bad, actually. I kind of like the concept, but it also has some formatting issues.)
And another keep nice!
Followed immediately by a magic the gathering card and a world of warcraft reference... *sigh*
Second year in a row: Someone misspelled the name of their item in the title line.
Argh, and another item that's not a wondrous item. Competing in a contest when you don't know the rules is NOT Superstar. It is an 's' word, however.
