So...just came across the Call for Submissions and I'm starting to brainstorm some things.
I'm afraid my knowledge of Cheliax is a little spotty. Does anyone know if there are any actual excerpts from the Starfall Doctrine out there somewhere, or is it something we only know about in broad outlines?

I wince at how quickly physical appearance gets brought up as soon as someone gets socially gendered as female. :/ Ouch.
To be fair, Todd used the word partner, and never mentioned female. I used beautiful dastardly as neutral term, not willing to make leaps. I will always call my own wife lovely. :)

I will always call my own wife lovely. :)
I am well aware that many men would not consider my wife to be especially beautiful in the physical sense of the word. But, to me, their opinions are irrelevant.
"Lovely" is a word that describes the whole person. As Merriam-Webster puts it: "eliciting love by moral or ideal worth".
My wife is strong, capable, smart, and funny. She is the heart of our family and the person I admire most in the world. To me, she is lovely in every way. I hope that everyone seeking a partner finds someone who makes them feel the same way.

Your puny notions of love and partnership will not stand in Eternal Hierarchy Of Asmodeus! What would come next? Treating your spouse as an equal partner? It is unnatural! It is against the order of things - you are either dominant or dominated! Only chaos and anarchy lie on the path you preach!

Thanks for bringing the thread back on topic, Drejk. ;)
Also, in response to your Infernal Doctrine, I'll quote Cayden Cailean: "Thhppptpptptpp!"

JiCi |

Cheliax, huh? Isn't that the region where Asmodeus is the center of worship?
Wish I knew more about that part (I only started playing in Golarion lately), because there could be a lot of ideas related to devils that would fit nicely in there.
Archdevil-exclusive prestige classes, expanded cults, related monsters and characters... or at the total opposite end of the Spectrum, maybe a bunch of good-aligned characters or organisations trying to stop the devil's influence could be great.
I unfortunately have nothing to submit for you, maybe next time.

It is, indeed, JiCi. And welcome to Golarion!
If you're interested in submitting to Wayfinder, I hope you'll check out our previous issues to get a feel for the magazine. They're free and full of great fan-created Pathfinder Campaign Setting content.

If you don't have any books referencing Cheliax, JiCi, you could also brush up here.(Also provides a solid reference section at the bottom.)

@ Paris Crenshaw
I actually downloaded all of Wayfinder's issues and it's well written. My "problem" is that I kinda ended a 10-year old campaign in Eberron and decided to start anew in Golarion. In short, I ended up doing a total party wipe, my players all made new characters as a result... but they all ended up making very Oriental characters, so I will have start their new adventure in Tian Xia :P So the Inner Sea might come much later. At least I can try the Ruby Phoenix Tournament.
@ Shadowborn
Since I will be exploring a new setting, I did buy several books on the Dragon Empires, but also the Inner Sea World Guide and Bestiary. I will check the wiki more often though. Thanks for the pointer.

I'm not a fan of Asmodeus, but I confess I love his influence on the musicians.

JiCi |

Hi, JiCi. Sounds like a fun campaign. For adventures in Tian Xia, you'll want to check out the issues of the Jade Regent Adventure Path, as well.
This is what people suggested me as well when I asked what books to buy. However, I noticed that APs are kinda harder to adapt to lower and higher-level play.

Just popping in to ask if you are posting the article spread like was mentioned on your facebook feed soon?
I have a couple of ideas for this issue, but in order to do them justice, I should concentrate on the one you need the most with the time remaining, or think again if you already have sufficient - one's a short story, the other is an archetype.

As promised, I give you the list of article types submitted thus far, and an idea of those types we'd like to see more of....
Bestiary: currently only 7. MORE MONSTERS = BETTER.
Class: 7. 4 Archetypes, 2 PrC. 1 Bloodline. Need more class options (bloodlines, schools, rogue talents, etc.) in the devilish vein.
Crunch: 3. One each of spells, feats. A kingdom-building article, too. DEFINITELY NEED MORE.
Fluff: 4 submissions. Gazetteer, an organization, and 2 articles on places. DEFINITELY NEED MORE.
Look at the campaign setting materials on Cheliax...lots of places mentioned or placed on a map that have little more than a couple of sentences as a seed. Pick one....expand on it.
Fiction: 5 submissions. A larger pool would be good.
Side Trek Seeds: 3. A few more would be welcome.
Weal or Woe: only 2. Third in the works. Could use a couple more, ON THEME. Lower level ones (lvl 3-5) would be nice.
That's 31 submissions. I would like many, many more. How does 100 submissions by March 31st sound? Can you all do that?

![]() |

Sorry, here's another question: in the initial guidelines you talk about the article range being either 750 or 1500 words.
Does that apply to all submissions (unless they specifically say otherwise, like the side treks)? For instance, should I try and make a PrC submission fit a 1500 word count?
Yes. Unless otherwise noted, word count targets are 750 or 1500. Most PrC articles go to the 1500 words. Bestiary articles are a bit different, as I've stated above....most entries shouldn't exceed 750, and can be less than that, actually. Bestiary entries should be tight, using no more and no less words than is necessary to have GMs successfully use them.
See my next post (and link) below...

Bestiary entries ... does each critter count as an entry, or can Ambrosia Slaad work up some other stuff too? ;)
Like hemlock, stubbed toes, and Nick Cage memes, I believe Ambrosia Slaad is best taken in fairly small doses. ;)
My problem isn't a submission limit; it's being able to turn raw ideas into complete, new(ish), and well-crafted (jury's out) submissions. Ideas such as:
- Cheliax forming a "French Foreign Legion"/Alien Legion of tiefling volunteers/conscripts as extra-national agents/mercs/soldiers... seems like a good way to keep the tiefling population at home low, turn a profit/advance Cheliaxian foreign policy, and get rid of potential troublemakers. Would potentially need to flesh out the organization(s), detail some NPCs, and include plenty of plothooks.
- Framed as a secret meeting or letters between tillers, the hook that the Bellflower Network could recruit tiefling agents to aid in freeing halflings, and the tillers in turn, help the tieflings organize their own "Hellflower" underground. Besides the usual NPCs and plot hooks, also give a brief Tiefling 101 including more variant Hellspawn racial qualities to flavorfully differentiate them from regular tieflings, including a few from my own new devil and Bardess' new seducer devil.
- A synthesist summoner archetype inspired by the 3.x acolyte of the skin PrC. The synthesist "skin" might be of actual devil flesh, "leftover" energies/matter discarded from the devils own promotion (or demotion) rites, primordial matter of the plane of Hell itself, or something else. The archetype would be build with ability "trees" modeled off various devils (again, including my own new devil and Bardess' new seducer devil).
- A Woe detailing an vampire NPC who has uncovered incomplete information of Ileosa's research and seeks to use it to gain new power(s) from tiefling blood. The weal would be a halfling inquistor looking to end the vampire threat while avoiding entanglements with Cheliaxian authorities.
- A low-ish CR "discord demon" that stalks PCs, covertly bespelling them to cause intra-party arguments/conflicts, debuffing them, and then herding them toward a waiting doom (likely a tougher CR devil). Bonus points if I could justify it looking like Navi.
I made gobs of notes and started writing them, but was never able to hammer any of them into something good enough. If anyone reading this can use these ideas for this Wayfinder, please feel welcome to do so.

Would you consider a feat tree (like Crane Style > Crane Wing > Crane Riposte) one submission per feat or a single submission for the entire tree?
Oh, jeez, no. One feat is not one submission!
An article is 750 words or 1500 words. One with feats is typically 750. So, as many feats, with intro text, as will fit in 750 words.

Hmmm, more Side Trek seeds...
I don't suppose any of you kind souls can point me to "Devils as a Race" for PC's - I have an idea based upon being the actual Devils themselves being used on a mission on behalf of the ruling houses, but I can't seem to find anything about using Devil's as a PC race.
I might be having a blind moment, so any gentle pointing would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

In general, I think this is a clever idea, but I have some concerns.
1) I don't think you're going to find anything like that, Anthony. The Advanced Race Guide rules deal with tieflings, but not full devils. I think that developing devils as playable races would be a bit challenging, unless you're going to go with imps or similarly weak devils. And even then, that development will take up word count.
2) Also, and probably more important, keep in mind that side treks are intended to be seeds for ongoing adventures--things that GMs can quickly use to add to their own campaigns. A side trek that requires the entire party to be made up of devils probably won't be useful to a broad audience.

Also....
I see ZERO magic items right now. We definitely need MAGIC ITEMS.
Darn. I am already over posting limits, cause I have a few magic items.
As for 12... Can we do a multiple country theme like we did for 10? Like Osirion, Thuvia and Rahadoumm? Because honestly, I am already over Osirion and Mummy's Mask has even dropped yet.

Osirion is also another desert theme straight off of 10, which seems less than ideal.

Regarding #12's potential theme, Osirion....I disagree.
I think that a "Katapesh and Qadira" issue is quite different from an "Osirion" issue, if you look past the fact they are both in deserts. Their climates should not the focus of the themes. The focus is on the Arabian Nights (Persia) and Egyptian themes. And those can be quite different.
I also believe that the Osirion theme totally can fill an issue with content on its own. Tossing in other regional areas would be like adding on Andoran and Isger for this issue because...well, links to Cheliax.
Not every theme is a popular one for everyone. I get that. But the Osirion theme has not been dealt with in Wayfinder since #1, and it wasn't a central theme for that issue, either. Really, I think it's time, and even more so with the Mummy's Mask concluding by that time, so fans will have a good idea what the Campaign Setting is lacking, so their creations will be both inspired by all the new content, yet building on areas and things further.

Fair enough - I can rework this to a story based short, setting it just after House Thrune ascends and starts doing away with rival houses, so I'll try and get that done over the next week, leaving me a couple of weeks to have a look at item possibilities too as you are short on those.

#12: Numeria... who's with me?
Pretty sure I (and others) called for Numeria for issue #12 of Wayfinder some months ago when Iron Gods was announced. If Tim thinks Osirion is the best theme I'm happy to wait for... #13. Coz what could be better than #13.
For the record, I haven't felt anything inspire me by the theme for #10, #11 or #12, but #10 absolutely blew me away with awesome content and art.
Numeria's time in Wayfinder will come. And it will be Iron, and grand.

Tim, my location and archetype are done. I need to do some editing, but they'll get submitted this weekend. Given that you're short on magic items, I'll whip up something for that as well.
Yerssss. Because you don't have enough other things going on right now.
I guess this means you handed in your adventure proposal for RPGSS and this is just some downtime fiddling... ;)
Good luck Robert...

I heard he won a golden fiddle in a contest from Dispater down in Georgia, so I imagine he must be pretty good at 'fiddling. ;)

I dunno. In light of Mummy's Mask.. To me it's too soon post-AP to be writing about it. Especially since Osirion is going to have three books and an whole AP dedicated to it so how much more cannon do we need at that point?
But Thuvia and Rahadoum are countries rather untapped. I mean Thuvia and Rahadoum only have a small feature in People of The Sands and The Inner Sea guide. Which I think would be a little more interesting and gives writers more options to grow lore, versus Osirian which is going to be completely fleshed out by the time we begin writing for Wayfinder 12.
Regardless, I'll be writing for it anyway, because I love writing Golarion Lore. But if Wayfinder is all about building on cannon and Golarion, we should grow on the lore that we don't necessarily cover all the time. Or are not recent AP's, like Cheliax, Katapesh, and Qadira. Which may not have a whole lot of Paizo coverage, but still deserves some new and original love.
Just food for thought. :) Thanks for listening.
