Need Eidolon Advice

Advice

Hello,

Long story short, I would like to roll a summoner in a future campaign and was wondering if it'd be possible to 'design' a viable Medusa Eidolon. Obvioisly, I don't expect it to turn enemies into stone. However, frightful pressence is selectable, though I am unsure as to how useful that actually is on an eidolon.

It can be given weapon proficency (bow), and the blindsense could work with the theme since it'd have snakes growing out of it's head. (Would that require taking the Head evolution a few times, or would that just be a cosmetic aspect?)

Basically, I would just like some suggestions. I'm not entirely sure where to go with it... A bipedal base that supports with fear and archery, or a serpentine base that's more scrapperish... Slam, frightful presence, natural armor, and etc. I kind of prefer the bipedal archer atm, but I'm open to anything (within reason).

Multiple heads with poison bites sounds interesting

Giving her a Medusa Mask is an obvious step.

The poison evolution permnmits one use per round, sadly.

Maybe one head, multiple tentacles on it. Poison bite or tail and biped with archery and frightful presence.

Honestly, though, she makes more sense as serpentine but then you spend points on the arms evolution.

I never would have thought to use the tentacle evolution to represent the snakes.

Biped Medusa (26 points)

Evolutions (Free):

Claws
Limbs(Arms)
Limbs(Legs)

Evolutions (Bought):

Weapon Training (Martial Weapons)
Skilled (Perception)
Ability Increase (Dex)
Frightful Presence
Bite
Poison (Bite)
Tentacle (x4)
Grab (Tentacle)
Blindsense
Blindsight

To be honest, I threw Grab in because I wanted the 'tentacle/snakes' to be able to do 'something'.

You may be able to beg your GM to let you use Flesh to Stone as an "Ultimate Magic" ability. I'd also grab the "Frightful Presence" evolution, some tentacles/poison... Acid damage for the tentacles would be nice too.

You'll have one heck of a scary eidolon!

The martial weapons evolution is pretty overpriced for what it gets you. I'd say either spend a feat on it, or maybe go with bracers of archery.

I forgot that I could just spend a feat to get martial weapons.

I've also never played a summoner, or with one before. I imagine I can provide an eidolon with gear if I'm willing to provide (pay)?

You will share item slots with the Eidolon so if it wears a belt the summoner cannot and so on.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I talked with the GM, he agreed to let me get Flesh to Stone as an Ultimate Magic evolution on a 'probationary period', to see how it'll ultimately affect the campaign. He mostly seemed happy that I wasn't creating "some big ass monster that eats everyone." (His exact words).

I find all the points spent on being able to cast a single spell are better used on things you can use repeatedly. You are spending 10, TEN!, evo points to possibly turn 1 creature to stone, once per day. You are also going to need to spend 2 ability increases on CHA, or give your eidolon a stat boosting item, which will mean you wont be able to wear that slot. If you give yourself a decent STR to be a martial summoner, then maybe missing out on that CHA boost is ok.

Of course, I don't want to poo poo the creativity behind the design and by spending all those points you will not be creating "some big ass monster that eats everyone", so there's that.

2 ideas come to mind that don't require the ultimate magic route, but each has its own problems.

First, re-skin the Swallow Whole ability to represent the victim being slowly paralyzed. Requires the bite and grab evolutions, and knowledge of the grappling rules, but damages the target and keeps them locked down like being turned to stone.

2nd, UMD. This would require 2 skills checks unfortunately, Emulate an Ability Score and Use a Scroll, but for 1 point the Racial skill evo will give you a +8 to a skill of your choice. Also the spell isn't on the summoner list so you'll have to buy or have a party wizard make the scroll.

I wouldn't mind the Swallow Whole re-skin, but I'd have to get the Large evolution because Swallow Whole works on creatures one size category smaller than the eidolon.
