Could I use the divine defender paladin?

I also wanted to point out that my palidin does not expect anyone else to obey his rules. He would not be a stick in the mud.

I know a lot of GMs tend to shy away from paladins because they can tend to drag things down, this won't be a problem with LeRose.

Thank you Dragoncat for your help organizing the applicants.

@Le'Rose Shifel: Any archtype is fine. I'm not one to shy away from Paladins, either.

Just a repeat for clarity's sake: I'll make my decision by tomorrow night. Probably around five or six pm, Eastern Time.

Twice a day poster here with several years on Paizo PbP. I've wanted to play CC for quite some time. May I present Issan for your consideration?

Background:

A tall tonsured Garundi dressed in the black robes of Pharasma, Issan’s destiny as a priest of the Goddess of Fate was set with his first breath. His mother nearly died in childbirth due to a lack of competent priests in his small village in the wastes of northwestern Osirion. Concerned at the quality of the few priests in the area, his parents bravely gave up their youngest son to the goddess and the child was taken up by a small Pharasmin nunnery near Shiman-Sekh.

A favored child of the temple, Issan was instructed in healing and death rituals. He looked forward to a quiet life as a cloistered priest and healer at the temple until one of his wards succumbed to a virulent strain of ghoul fever and he barely escaped with his life. Many of the beloved sisters of the temple were not so lucky.

Bereaved at the loss of those he had considered his family. Issan wandered to Sothis where he met Professor Lorrimor, who interviewed the young priest about the tragedy. Issan soon came to see the professor as a mentor in learning more about the undead and how best to destroy them. It is with great sadness that Issan heard of the Professor's recent passing.

Issan wears the black robes of his faith and an antique silver edged skane of bone is displayed at his hip. The tall Garundi shaves his head daily and has a commanding presence though he rarely takes the forefront unless it is to eulogize the recently departed or confront the living dead.

Sczarni

I've been wanting to play this one but only jumped to the online world in the last little while. If possible I have a tiefling Alchemist I've wanted to play. I'm not entirely unfamiliar with PbP but it would be my first campaign as one. I'm a retire Veteran so I plenty of free time to hop on daily ^^.

Here we go.

Background: In the Professor's younger years, the two met during a chance meeting at a dig site. While touring the dig, seeing the apprentices at work and making sure that the various rules were being followed, the Professor noticed one of the apprentices digging too close to a support structure and rushed over to scold the individual. Unfortunately the green around the gills apprentice in all his excitement and embarrassment caused a cave in trapping him and the professor. Thanks to a bit of quick thinking and a few placed bombs, Drekken managed to free them both. The Professor thanked him for saving his life, vowing to forever remember the deed despite the man's lineage.
Drekken was born of noble descent in the Chelaxian capital. Thanks to the embarrassing parentage of his mother's dalliances with demons, as a boy Drekken was hidden away in the comfort of the manor, books being his only friends. As he grew up his thirst for knowledge increased causing him to delve into Alchemy. During his adolescence, a wandering group of adventurers exposed his family's dirty secrets and exposed him to the outside world. His father and his true heirs, instead of dealing with the embarrassment, denounced his lineage on the spot and cast him out. He barely had the chance to flee into the sewers and luck alone kept him alive long enough to sneak out of the country. He earned his stay and made his way to Ustalav thanks to his hobby that he picked up thanks to alchemy, the crafting of liquors. A small stent apprenticed to a few different alchemists and he was soon out on his own at the ripe age of 137.

Personality: A bit of a lush, the male is always happy to earn a bit of coin, be it brewing up a nice ale, or dealing with a bounty or two. As long as the coin is good, then chances are the tiefling is there. However a sucker for comfort, it does...sometimes take a bit to pull him out of bed and get him on the road.

I hope I didn't screw anything up too much on a backstory/character post. Please let me know if you need more info from me ^^.

Sczarni

Apologies, I knew I would screw up somewhere. Archtype: Grenadier.

Sovereign Court

hmmm Will be submitting a dwarf rogue as soon as I get back to my com. Smart phone or not this won't cut it for me.

Grand Lodge

Here is My submission, Doon, Dwarven Rogue.

Crumpling of parchment and a deep sigh.

So.....my dear friend has passed on. Farewell Petros Lorrimor, a good friend you have being and I am sorry to hear of your passing.

No more will there be anyone else to argue with me over old history nor ancients items.

No more will there be anyone to keep this dwarf company in this city of boring men.

No More excitment from the time of a lost forgotten tomb or the turning of pages from an ancient manuscript.

I have seen you grow from boy to man now I will for the sake of memories attend your last rites.

Sczarni

Blast it all, messed up thought I saw 20 point build for some reason, corrections to make inbound

Str 10, Dex 16, Con 10, Int 18, Wis 10, Cha 8

So I though I would run my charecter through a personality template to give you a better idea.

Personality:

http://at-will.omnivangelist.net/2010/11/characters-with-character-random-p ersonality-generator/

Motivation: What is it that really gets your character’s motor running?
Beauty and Justice

Instinct: What is your character’s first reaction to a threat (physical or otherwise)?
Defuse Anger, Seek Commonality

Approach: What archetype is your character best known for being?
Thoughtful Explorer

Constriction: What does your character fear or feel beholden to?
He fears Conformity and Monotony

In what settings is your character lucky or otherwise foolhardy?
In Love he is both. He is great at charming but then can never seem to close the deal, like a dog chasing a car.

Value: What is it your character cherishes above all else?
(This is sort of the opposite of Motivation in that Motivation is something desired, where Value is something already ‘owned’)
Harmony, he has a peace about him that allows him to break away from being judgmental.

If I had to select a Actor to play my character in a live action version of this it would be Neil Patrick Harris

Well, I think I can safely say Mr. GM won't be hurting for choices!

lol, ya I think that would be a safe assumption Dragoncat. I Don't think I mentioned anything earlier with regards to posting; I can easily post pretty much as much as I want during the week, job synergizes really well with forum lurking.

Good work on the updates Dragoncat. Timely and organized!

Aww... thanks, guys! <:)

Dragoncat has done an awesome job keeping everything straight.

now there is just waiting... Nervous waiting

Agree with Le'Rose and Nagual. Dragoncat you have seriously outdone yourself in keeping this all organized.

Good luck GM, picking out the most fun ones.
And good luck everybody, hope you get chosen (well, along with me, that is ;) ).

:)

Ah, the suspense, waiting to see if I get in:)

Whatever Character Dragoncat submitted should get in because every game needs someone organized like that. If dragoncat doesn't get in and I do then give him/her my spot.

"...that would be me."

The inquisitor appears, stroking a cat with a very curious coat of fur patterned after a dragon's hide.

Can cats smile? Apparently so. Especially this one.

Sczarni

So here is a question, this game obviously has some followers really wanting to play it. Is there anyone willing to GM a second group so more people would get to play? I have done a small (VERY) stint as a GM so I'm not really the best person for the job and would rather perfer to play but I can attempt to GM once again if no one else would be willing. After all, can't learn if you never try.

Jeesh it feels like giving my character the kiss of death to say so but I can run a game. It would have be my homebrew though but I have something that could work.... But I really want in this game

Sczarni

I felt that way too when I mentioned it >.<

Ah nuts, I really want to play too but dragoncat and or Ezra can have my slot if it comes down to it. Just wouldn't feel right playing if don't get to.

Sorry everyone for the absence. I came down with a virus today and had to see a doctor and sleep the day away in an attempt to recover. I'll be pushing the deadline back to the end of tomorrow so I have time to consider the new applicants.

Consider what Jing is saying. There is always a larger amount of players than DMs. Disproportionately so: 5 or 6 players to 1 DM is fine, but with this forum as an example, there is more likely about 20 to 1 DMs to players in this world.

Thanks for your responses and I'll try not to leave you hanging much longer.

Also if anyone is interested in DMing, PM me and we can divvy up the applicants right quick.

Hope you have a quick recovery Wren. Take your time, get better first and foremost, we will all survive a delay so you can get better.

Drink some OJ - doctor's orders!

"Indeed, I shall wait for you to recover, for I have endured far worse than an extra day's wait. Sadly, I cannot yet cast Remove Disease."

Get well soon! :)

Hope you feel better soon, Wren. Getting sick is never fun. :(

On another note, I looked for another avatar for Edwyn, but none looked suitably feeble and bookish, so I think I'll settle for this one.

Ezra pulls out a deck of cards and lays out one which simply reads, "I am sorry. before scratching "Get well soon" on the chalkboard she carries in a pouch at her hip.

Sovereign Court

Get Well soon.

Sczarni

Indeed, hopefully rest will be just the ticket. Better that then a shot >.<

Get well soon

bump! and get well soon! By the way, I can almost always post multiple times per day

The player:GM ratio is definitely impressive; as somebody with a fair amount of IRL GMing experience, I'd be interested in giving PBP a try -- someday. I've been wanting to get in a game as a player first, to get a feel for the medium, plus right this second isn't the time for me to launch a new campaign as GM.

Just sayin', if anybody wants to kick off a second game and pull in Arkivolld, I'll pay it forward in the future. :p

An unfortunate side effect of the ACG release today is that the immense server lag. I am having a very hard time accessing the page. I believe this is probably a common issue today. I will attempt to check in tonight in the hopes the server is back to normal for traffic. Otherwise, I will wait until the morning to see what is happening!

-Akinra

Yeah, I know what you mean.

Well, looks like the deadline, if it hasn't passed already, is approaching fast!

Good luck everyone!

Sczarni

I'm almost expecting the deadline to be stretched to tomorrow, given that the gm was interested in giving his decision at 5 or 6 eastern yesterday but the forum was pretty much down for 24 since then. Let the nail biting continue ^^.

Sorry for the delay. I've basically just been sleeping all day and when I got on at 6 to post my selection, the message boards were down. Without further adieu, the members of this party will be:

Ezebelle Thesun (Human Ranger)
Utho (Skinwalker Paladin)
Edwyn Varro (Human Life Necromancer)
Ezra Savet (Dual Cursed Oracle)
Cassiel Hawke (Human Inquisitor)

It was a hard choice to make and I thank everyone for their attentiveness. Also thanks for being so nice to me when I got sick.

If those selected would please follow me over to the play-by-post thread, then we can get started as soon as everyone has joined. Wren's Carrion Crown pbp

Anyone who still really wants to play should talk with gabboge (Le'Rose Shifel), because he mentioned running Carrion Crown as well.

Congrats everyone and good luck!

Certainly still interested.

Congratz to the ones that got in, have fun playing.

With a twirl of his red slouch hat and a smile, Cassiel takes a bow.

"Thank you for giving me this opportunity, GM. Rest assured, I won't disappoint."

He turns to the rest of the applicants, offering a respectable bow. "It's been a pleasure meeting you all. Best of luck wherever you go next."

Ok guys who didn't get picked but are still interested. Repost your characters for my sake and give me a bit to do some write UPS.

I would like this game to run side-by-aide with the other so that if there is a drop off in players we can consolidate or trade.

OK before deciding if you want to ride on my game I just want to lay down some ground rules. I hope it doesn't scare too many people off but I just want to be honest about my style. I am a more narrative focused GM in PbP which means you may feel like the game is less "Open-world"

I think at least early on we need focused direction or it can really fall apart. Once we get going in a direction then I release the reigns more. I just want to make sure everyone is settling together.

When we level up: When it makes sense in the story. I would like to have a lot of the level up hit during certain story beats. Most game are engineered with this in mind anyway but it sucks to play a character who does things that don't reward XP. So kinda forget the who XP thing.

Starting items: Here are your options start with average gold if you want or submit a "Wish-List" of items that make sense for you and I'll give you ether thumbs up or down.

New Into: The funeral will still be the starting point but I would all like the characters to be "Pen-pals" That would explain why you not a pallbearer and why you don't get dragged into the story with the other group but you still have a steak.

Please read this thread:
http://paizo.com/threads/rzs2nr91?DHs-Guide-to-Play-By-Post-gaming#1

It has all good information but specificly I want to adopt the writing style.

I like

Psioney walked over to where Minmaximus was eating and asked “Can I borrow your sword?”

More then

@ Minmaximus: “Can I see your sword?”

Here is a good example of a game I was a part of that used this well. I played Clouse, a hobgoblin marshal:

http://www.againsttheshadow.org/index.php?topic=2306.875

I like the flow of this style of game.

Jeesh that's a lot to throw out there. Anyone still interested?

Sure am.
Currently in one other PbP here with Lethander Grey.
Not much for roleplaying examples there as we're not even fully into the introduction, but I can tell you my own and preferred style seems to match yours very well.

Level-up method seems better than "poof, you're so much better now".

Still going with a 15 point buy?

New intro: Do you mean pen-pals with the professor? Does that replace the campaign traits then, or do those still explain how they get to know each other but instead of 'close and dear friends' they become somewhat distant pals and friendly acquaintances instead?
If so, Gerald's background already kind of has that... well, they're not even pen-pals.

You can go 20 point if you want to but if you stick to 15 points then I'll throw you nifty toys and be more lenient on the materials you can draw from.

I prefer interesting over huge stats but some need the extra points to cover a wider range of stats. Like paladins who I don't want having to suffer because their class almost requires decent points into both STR/DEX and Cha for abilities to work well.

I may get half levels every now and then to space things out. Like a "You get an extra trait!" or "You just gained this ability due to story!"

Pen Pals: Yes, keep the traits you want. I'm thinking that as long as you have some sort of long distance acquaintance with the professor that is all right.

I like the idea that the players are all outsiders, and thus will be shunned by most of the town, you doubly so because you are also a wizard.

Outsiders brought in may be more trustworthy to some people in the town that are paranoid of hidden elements within the town. Sorry for being cryptic but I don't want to spoil anything for you or the other group that is playing the same scenario.

If wren wants to play along I want our two groups to be acting through the same evens but from different perspectives, never really meeting, unless we want to.

Hah, Gerald's probably equally paranoid about anything native to that country.
It's right next to the Worldwound and from what he's read, it was already the dreadful land of horror long before that!

Gerald failed at necromancy and enchantment because the mere thought of those "you know", he whispered quietly, as if he feared that even just mentioning it aloud would make something horrible step out of the walls "ghostly, shadowy things" frighten him.
I'd tell you to reconsider even allowing him into your game just because the poor guy would be very much out of his depth.
But, well, where's the fun in that, eh? ;)

If the 20 points don't reduce odds of being taken, i'll go for them instead of items, though. Wealth or things of value don't quite fit into his character anyhow. And a wizard can always use stats, double so for single-stat-boost humans.
