Expect the Unexpected...But

Advice

Hello fellow GM's; questions from the Sorcerer again! So recently, I've been running a custom campaign of mine with a fairly scattered playing group, though one at least is always present, and with this specific campaign, I've run into a rather..awkward predicament. About, halfway through now, to make up for lack of players, well known and liked NPCs have joined the epic quest, some holy warriors, others, good hearted champions, and the ever neutral merchant tagging along have indeed made the story take unexpected turns..though, with the new session up ahead, the one ever present PC dropped his neutral good Ranger for a..well, Chaotic Evil Sorcerer. Now, I'm aware the campaign is for the PC's to enjoy..but.next session is only with this evil character with his eyes set on overthrowing the kingdom and enslaving the citizens. While it does open up a chance for good aligned/holy enemies..I can't help but feel it'll end in disaster. What do you think?

Tell him he isn't allowed to play a CE character. That's just ridiculous on his part.

What a shock it will be to the other players to come back and find their old companion replaced with an evil sorcerer. Not to mention the shock if his wicked plans come through.

Though you may be tempted to indulge this player for being the only one who is present at every game, I would be remiss if I did not warn you against doing so in this way.

I personally do not allow evil PCs in my game (nor do I allow CNs who are played as evil by misguided players), but some here do and will advise you to allow it. To each their own, but I fall back on my feelings about the other players. Is it right for them to return to such a mess?

Hmm, good points friend. I'm still a fairly new GM, more so experienced as a PC. With my oher group GM, we had one Chaotic Evil sorcerer amongst a group of NG to LG characters. The GM was kind enough to allow him to carry out his plans in secrecy, but when it came down to confronting the rogue sorcerer in his domain, he had gone completely insane attempting to contact the unknowable fey monstrosity..thing "I can't exactly remember what it was". It muttered a few words to him and next thing we knew he was garbling nonsense on the floor. With me as GM..this new player's Sorcerer is only about level 8, and his ability to gain followers is rather poor. I think I'll play along, for now, though should things get too extreme and just go in poor spirit, the good PCs have allies to call on. The CE Sorcerer could forge alliances with enemies, but this particular player is too prideful and ignorant to probably even consider it. Thanks again Bruunwald for your advice, and I do totally agree with your points!

See, I would, but with the poor attendance of all the other PCs, I'd be out of characters completely, for this guy is a rather sore loser.

Offer to do a solo campaign with him where he can play a CE character. But tell him that for the campaign with other players you would prefer it if the party remained not evil.

I believe I shall have to take this course of action, I underestimated just how much a CE character could mess with the entire fabric of the story..and besides that, most players who play them are all the same; rule what you can, destroy what you can't, seemingly at random.
