So ive played a lot of games, i love games, but lately i find myself severely lacking focus and therefore fun. just unsure what to stick with and enjoy.
So i was wondering what i should play, but i understand thats a big question to answer, so let me help you all narrow the choices. Here is a bunch of games i liked and why.
Diablo 2-Probably one of my first true game addictions. even today i at times feel its superior to diablo 3 which took a lot away from me with the horrible auction house system. its also best with friends which i just dont have that option.
NWN 1 and 2-Loved the first one more then the second, they did make the story i bit better in 2 i think, but at a loss to some things as well. like the first one more.
World of Warcraft-played this 5+ years and enjoyed teh hell out of it. But friends drifted away (i just cant play alliance, ive tried numerous times) and money woes has left me without.
Assassins creed games-Sadly i cannot say ive completed a single one, but ive greatly enjoyed playing them, namely the mobility and stealth.
Dragon Age Games-I enjoyed both (yes even the second, it let me play a smartass) tho they both (especially the first) were a bit dry
deus ex human revolution-a really fun game, i played it a bit different, focusing on physical abilities making me sorta physically super human, neglecting hacking, cloak, guns, etc
oblivion/skyrim-these games shoulda took over my life, but something was always off about them so i felt bored after a few hours. wish i could figure out what it was.
demon/dark souls-these games DID take over my life, at least for a while. one of the most satisfying games ive played, and at teh same time frustrating.
shadow of the colossus-another game that while strange, was immensely satisfying.
Fallout 3/new vegas-Ive always loved fallout games from the beginning. loved 3 more hten new vegas wich felt like a expansive mod more hten a finished game. I dont know why these games hooked me while elder scrolls did not, especialy since im more of a swords and sorcery geek anyways. i have to admit its one of the few games i have trouble being a good character, once i get to the part where my old vault-mates tell me to leave forever i get so mad i kill them all.
borderlands 1/2-the humor was pretty close to where im at, addictive fun. tho could never get a character to max level, repetiveness became too much for me.
fable games-loved them, love the first one the most, second one became a dissapointment the moment i found out i couldnt really die, id just come back with a scar, and there was even a potion for that FFS!
mass effect games-amazing games, even if the bioware tends to rehash the same bones for there plots, they do good on the flesh of the games. tho i felt the alignment system lacked depth.
Portal games-some of the best humor around
witcher games-probably some of the best games ive ever played right here, tho the fact that i have to play a pre-set character isnt ideal.
KoTOR-i typically dont care for star wars games, but this game, ive played more times then probably any other, and have beaten it more times then any other, which is impressive, i sometimes have trouble with wanting to complete a game.
Im sure there are plenty more.
I guess what im looking for is a game that i dont have to invest huge chunks of time at once if i dont have the time, that puts out probably any MMO. I want it to have a bit of depth to the rpg character development, skills, abilities, all that shnaz.
Aside from that, it has to be fun, i know thats a subjective point, but hopefully the list above helps with that.
Even suggesting one of the above games isnt out of bounds.

You like stealth games? Dishonored is great.
It's like...Deus Ex with smoother controls and magic instead of technology, set in a steampunk setting.
Give Diablo 3 another try. Something that doesn't affect the game AT ALL shouldn't change your ability to have fun with it.
I'd say give Oblivion/Skyrim another try as well.
F+%* the main quest, go wanderin', do the Faction quests (big fan of the Dark Brotherhood here), and just get involved with whatever interests you. Make up a class and stick with it as long as possible.
Bioshock (1, 2, and Infinite). All are great games, 2 a bit less so than 1 and Infinite IMO, but still good.
Psychonauts. Good humor, good action. Focus is mostly on platforming though.
The Hitman series, especially Blood Money and Absolution. Good stealthy, tactical homicide gameplay. First two (three, if you count Contracts, though Contracts is a bit better, I'd put it at #3 of the series after Blood Money and Absolution), IMO, are PAINFULLY slow paced.
Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning. Fun combat, decent story (written by R.A. Salvatore), and some interesting quests. Fantasy gameplay. MAGES WITH CHAKRAMS. Good game.
All I got for ya.

If you like RPGs, I'd give SHADOWRUN RETURNS a look. I'd second the rec for DISHONOURED and BIOSHOCK INFINITE.
I'd add in JADE EMPIRE, if you haven't played that already. Same engine as STAR WARS (and not dissimilar to MASS EFFECT and DRAGON AGE 2), but set in an RPG setting with martial arts. Probably BioWare's most underrated game.
If you like PORTAL, I'd check out BLACK MESA (it's free, if you have Steam). It's a fan-made but professional-quality remake of HALF-LIFE in the same engine as PORTAL. It's more traditional (no portals, lots of guns) but it still stands up incredibly well.
If you like the BioWare games, I'd definitely check out the classic Infinity Engine games as well: BALDUR'S GATE (and sequel), ICEWIND DALE (and sequel) and PLANESCAPE: TORMENT. Also keep an eye out for WASTELAND 2, which should be out at the end of this year or the start of next.

My list has many similarities to yours. Some other games I could recommend/second:
Baldur's gate I and II, with expansions.
Planescape: Torment
Icewind Dale I and II, with expansion.
Warcraft III, if you haven't tried it. The expansion is also well worth it.
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. Avoid II like the plague, though.
I also had great fun with Dead Rising, a surprisingly fun game with a good amount of humour.
A dating sim/platformer may not be up your alley, but I found Catherine a good game.

I'd say give Oblivion/Skyrim another try as well.
F@!$ the main quest, go wanderin', do the Faction quests (big fan of the Dark Brotherhood here), and just get involved with whatever interests you. Make up a class and stick with it as long as possible.
If all else fails, mod the PC version until you do like it! Same with fallout. Lots of quality mods out there. In the least you can make things look pretty.
Alpha Protocol hasn't been mentioned yet. Game could've used a bit of polish but I enjoyed it.

Diablo 2-Probably one of my first true game addictions. even today i at times feel its superior to diablo 3 which took a lot away from me with the horrible auction house system. its also best with friends which i just dont have that option.
Try Torchlight II for a really great Diablo clone, I also like The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing, also: Titan Quest.
Assassins creed games-Sadly i cannot say ive completed a single one, but ive greatly enjoyed playing them, namely the mobility and stealth.
Try Batman Arkham Asylum and Arkham City, Dishonored, Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines and Alpha Protocoll.
NWN 1 and 2-Loved the first one more then the second, they did make the story i bit better in 2 i think, but at a loss to some things as well. like the first one more.
Google "Baldurs Gate Neverwinternights 2 to discover an extensive and amazing Mod.
fable games-loved them, love the first one the most, second one became a dissapointment the moment i found out i couldnt really die, id just come back with a scar, and there was even a potion for that FFS!
Not quite the same, but Kingdom of Amalur, Two Worlds and Two Worlds 2 are worth a look.
Portal games-some of the best humor around
Magrunner: Dark Impulse is less humorous, but a good puzzle game
KoTOR-i typically dont care for star wars games, but this game, ive played more times then probably any other, and have beaten it more times then any other, which is impressive, i sometimes have trouble with wanting to complete a game.
Jade Empire is an amazing game from Bioware
Dragon Age Games-I enjoyed both (yes even the second, it let me play a smartass) tho they both (especially the first) were a bit dry
Drakensang and Drakensang: Rivers of Time are well worth a closer look.

wow you guys are great, so many options.
ive spent hours modding skyrim tho, i think it might be the controls, bethesda are great at a massive immersive world, but damnit it all if there first person melee combat is floaty and unsatisfying. I think fallout got around this for me because i was a fan of the first one, so i used VATS constantly.
I tried dishonored, maybe i need to again. I think i tend to like 3rd person tho, not exclusively but its a notch against them when its first person.
i played diablo 3 to max level, and did max difficulty for a while, even trying to do the paragon levels, i just find it inferior to diablo 2 i think. and its hard for me to play a game when i disagree so vehemently with a aspect of it. nags at me you know. its why i have trouble with f2p games sometimes.
I played the first bioshock, it was ok, but i guess VATS is what made me happy while playing fallout, i always struggled the moment i was unable to keep using VATS.
ill give pysconaughts a look
my brother loves the hitman series, i should probably give them a look too.
i played kingdoms of amalur fun game, interesting premise, some reason i have a hard time sticking with it too. even more puzzled by this one tho. maybe its the go to x and kill y for me quests. or the artstyle...not sure.its good tho i agree, tho i always struggled to get much past the part where you beat some creature inside a big tree in the earlier parts of the game...petered out i guess.
Ill give shadowrun returns a look
I really should check out jade empire, always meant to.
remaking halflife with portal engine, definitly need to look at black mesa
ive played all the really old icewindale/baldurs gate, planescape games too...planescape was easily my favorite, great story.
i dont like many RTS games so warcraft 3 is out, played it once...didnt like it. most rts i ever played was old starcraft with cheats and a really old rts i dont remember its name but it had trailer trash, cyborgs, amazons, and cultists as there factions.
played force unleashed fun, and interesting perspective on the movies.
i could give dead rising/catherine looks tho
i played path of exile and it was great, until i hit the brick wall of gearing at around level 40...became kinda rediculous i felt at that point, maybe ill try again tho.
dont remember alpha protocal ill check it out
i played torchlight 2/titanquest i need to go back to torchlight 2 probably, didnt play it enough. van helsing i should check out
i heard about the baldurs gate nwn2 mod[b] i should totally check it out
i played [b] two worlds 2 was a bit weird, but fun!
ill check magrunner out
and ill check drakensang games out too.
Thankyou all for all this info, great stuff, definitly have some things to go on now.

There's a mod for that...

Deadly Reflex for oblivion for example, and I'm certain fallout has a number of mods that change the UI and add options like hotkey grenades and sprint. Can't recall any for skyrim off the top of my head, but I'm certain there are some. I usually change the animations in skyrim/oblivion at least so that combat looks more interesting.

dragon's dogma:dark arisen box. That game is loads of fun. Cool sorc spells too. Pawn system is pretty cool too.
Red Dead Redemption. Good story, good game. My humor. Just watch out when skinning bears. I swear I had three grizzlies run me, on foot, damn near all the way to the fence at my ranch. And hunt cats at a full gallop. They will drop your horse fast, and you don't want a pair of mountain lions after you in the middle of no where, with a dead horse.
Let's see, already got Mass Effect covered.
Mebbe some Bayonetta.
Just ordered Borderland 1/2 so I can't comment on them yet.
Not a big fan of skyrim mainly cause it's 1st person. The run around with yours hands in front of the camera weren't really my thing.
