arcane archer question

Rules Questions

Hey everyone. Just couple questions on arcane archer. when shooting a spell through bow, do they shot against ac or touch ac? And after they shoot a spell, do they still get there remaining regular shots? Lastly when shooting an area spell do they have the option to selecta square adjacent to the target to hit ac 5?

Imbue Arrow (Su): At 2nd level, an arcane archer gains the ability to place an area spell upon an arrow. When the arrow is fired, the spell's area is centered where the arrow lands, even if the spell could normally be centered only on the caster. This ability allows the archer to use the bow's range rather than the spell's range. A spell cast in this way uses its standard casting time and the arcane archer can fire the arrow as part of the casting. The arrow must be fired during the round that the casting is completed or the spell is wasted. If the arrow misses, the spell is wasted.

1) If you are targeting a creature, it is against its normal AC. Nothing in the ability changes this.

2) No extra shots allowed, the shot is part of casting the spell as noted in the ability.
3) Yes. Shooting a square (AC 5) is allowed, though it is more fun to put the arrow into the target :p

Thank you! Also if casting say lightning bolt through an arrow, can he make it a flaming lightning bolt arrow? Or can you only make the arrow flaming/shock/frost if there is no spell attached to it

Bit of a grey area.

I would allow say a fireball and add shock on the same arrow, but not dynamically opposed elements like fireball(fireball) and frost. But this is more my preference as there is nothing by RAW that prevents this.

I am unsure how one would "center" a lighting bolt as it is a line area spell. How would one center a cone of cold. Clearly the ability was written with Burst, Emanation, or Spreads in mind and not Cone, Cylinder or Line spells. But they are spells that affect an "area" as well. An arcane archer could get some good versatility by using an arrow as the origin for a Cone, Cylinder or Line area spells. Ask your GM about this one.

the lightning bolt is easy to center. It is a 120' line. Just have the line go 60' in front and behind the target, in the direction the shot came from.

The other answer I have seen is to treat the shot location as the origination point for the spell. Works for fireball as it would be the center, but for cones and lines, you choose the direction the spell goes from there. So, with the lighting bolt, it may start on the East side of someones square and go 120' West, going through the target square, and the next 24 squares west of the target.
