I wanted to purchase one of these for my PFS ninja, but I don't think it's PFS legal. I don't see it listed in Additional Resources, anyway, and it would require buying the AP book, regardless.
This sounds like it's for a home game, though. I would say no, it doesn't count as armor, since it's (apparently, I don't own the book) listed under clothing, and it does not provide an armor bonus. It's more like a masterwork tool for Stealth.
The shozoku of the night wind, however, is a little less clear, since it does provide an armor bonus. It takes the body slot, though, and is also, I think, not listed with armor, so that might be a must have for a monk. Except that mage armor is still a larger bonus.

It is a "Clothing" item from the Jade Regent AP that simply adds a +2 to Stealth at a cost of 50GP. As far as I can tell, it is not armor.
Sounds like a masterwork tool in that instance. Monk's can always wear clothes mind you, its just cooler to go shirtless. Just wear the black pajamas as clothes and I'm pretty sure its good.

Well, Omoyani the Monk/Ninja wears the Shozoku of the Night Wind and still has her using her monk Abilities in her stat block, so I assume that it does not count as armor. But I wanted to crowd source opinions before I did.

So in a related question is the armor restriction of monks based on if an items grants an "armor bonus" Or an item that uses the "armor slot"?
I've always thought it was anything that used the armor slot. Otherwise Monks would wear silken ceremonial armor or haramaki instead of depending on the bracer right?

I assume anything listed on the armor & shields table counts as armor. Silken ceremonial armor and haramaki are listed as light armor and thus wearing them would would negate a bunch of monk abilities.

Sorry for the broken link. Glad someone fixed it.
Yeah, I think it's just actual armor, not anything that gives an armor bonus. So Haramaki and Silken Ceremonial Armor would negate a monk's abilities, Bracer's of Armor, the Shozoku of the Night Wind, a Snakeskin Tunic, or similar non-armor item that grants an armor bonus would not.
Is it wrong that I want to buy a Snakeskin Tunic for my Nagaji Monk?

Be sure to get the snakeskin boots and gloves to go with it.
Wondrous items don't count against a monk for the purposes of wearing armor. He can wear a chest and body slot wondrous item and he gets away with it. Personally, I prefer my monk's shirtless.

Thanks for the link. That was disappointing... Was hoping to finally find a RAW legal way for monk to get the Brawling armor property w/o giving up all his "you shall not wear armor!" class features. But this, like bracers of armor, also appears to not technically count as "light armor" despite giving an armor bonus and being extremely light...
*sigh* That's what I was wondering about. Carry on...
