Hi , just needed some advise/ideas for a subject.
We all know that death is part of PFS , and it´s all natural that some PC´s are going to die.
Nevertheless , it´s always sad to see PC´s disappear in "the line of duty" , without some kind of recognition from the Society ( in game , and in real life).
Does any one have a kind of "memorial " ( mail , drawing of a badge , etc) that they give special PC´s that died ?( let´s say level 3 up , for instance)
I would like to do something to my players ( recently we had a LVL 3/4 party TPK ) to make them feel "special" and encourage them to bring new Charater´s , knowing that their "good work" will be appreciated.
Maybe just creating a thread in Pathfinder Society Lodge forums for this , or , if PFS want to make it official , maybe give a small boon to the player who lost is PC´s , or make a sticky thread in a forum for this ( maybe only after a certain level)....
Thoughts?

Seems like a nice idea, however like you suggested Id cap it out at a level.
To me this bring matters back to the heart of an rpg. We are playing adventurers here who do crazy things. The guys in movies who go off in a small groups to battle monsters and do insane things. We need to all be prepared when characters die. We as players might feel sad and ticked off... thats a good thing. It means we are invested in what we do. Death is not always permanent in Society too. By level 5 you are likely able to be brought back somehow. I know a character who is still playing, just made level 9 and has died 3 times.
I think the forum thread is a nice idea.. possibly much in the same way that the adventure paths have one each. Make sure you put a spoiler in the title.. as it is likely people will want to say how they died. I dont believe there should be any reward should you have a character die. The reward was being able to play that character..

I would support a special chronicle that grants the player to start a new PC at level two (3XP) with 1500gp (plus the starting 150gp), but no fame (sorry, ya gotta earn that). Sort of a "booby prize" of sorts if your character was perma-killed during an event. Wouldn't apply to a 1st level character death, of course.

It's a bit out of character... if you recall the very reason for the existence of the Shadow Lodge, was the overall callousness of the Society for the fate of it's members.
If the companions that were with you don't honor you, I can't see anything making up for that lack.

Ask your local FLGS (or wherever you game) for a Hall of Fame/Shame. A store in my area has a board on which goes the character sheets of the fallen, signed off on by the GM and what Scenario took them out.
Of course, a player I know with a silly streak would just turn his character sheet into a hat and wear it the rest of the session as he sat there....

2 people marked this as a favorite. |

I did a small "memorial" to them:
Memorial of Fallen Pathfinders from Pathfinder Lodge Portugal.
And i thought of something like this , to give players:

I don´t think that is entirely true , the Decemvirate , yes , they seem to be oblivious to what happens to their Agents , but not the Venture-Captains , Faction Leaders ,or other representatives and fellow Pathfinders , so we can say that this "honor" is bestowed on them , by their VO´s and companions , not the Decemvirate , but nevertheless an "official recognition" the Pathfinder Society.
In this case , me , the VO of my region , decide to honor them ;-)

Yeah, but this is a store where the owners take an approach to GMing that includes taking pride in killing characters. Personally, not my favorite part of the store.
