Pearl of power, lower level spell slots

Rules Questions

Is it possible to use a pearl of power to recall a spell slot of lower level than the pearl? For example, could I use a 2nd-level pearl of power for recall Grease (1st level)?

I would allow it, under the premise that you can use a higher-level spell slot to cast a lower-level spell.

"A spellcaster always has the option to fill a higher-level spell slot with a lower-level spell. (PFRPG 218)"

No, the pearl don't give you a new spell slot, it recall a used spell, a specific one that you have used that day.
So you can use a second level pearl on a shocking grasp only if you have memorized the shocking grasp in a second level spell slot and you have spent that specific spell.

seeing as a lvl 2 pearl of power is alot more expensive i dont see why you couldnt use it to recall a lvl 1 spell

although i would just buy a couple of lvl 1 pearls instead its ALot easyer.

It quite clearly says it has to be a particular level, I probably would not mind to bend the rules a bit if the players aren't usually RAW cheese balls.

There is a pearl you can buy that recalls two spells of 6th lvl or lower provided they are of a different level each which does give you some flexibility.

Liberty's Edge

Recovering a spell slot that you can use as you wish is the power of the Runestones of power for spontaneous spellcasters. They cost twice a pearl of power of the same level, giving part of the power of the Runestones to the Pearls seem too convenient for spellcasters that memorize their spells.

That pearl is what made me think about this! It seems that one is close to the cost of two 5th level PoP (if I remember my math correctly), so the benefit was marginal, especially if you could recall any lower level spell with one.

It makes sense in some ways (if a PoP is powerful enough to recall a powerful spell, it should be able to recall a weaker spell), but doesn't seem to be supported in the description.

I'm just curious. My PFS wizard has a lvl1 PoP, and I doubt he's going to be able to afford a lvl3 before I decide to buy a level 2 PoP.
