Carrion Crown: Uneasy Lie the Dead [Recruitment]

I submit Pete for your approval and consideration.

About me, I'm fairly new to the Paizo boards, having only found them a little over a month ago, but am very active in the PbP community. I run a few PbP games here as well. I am blessed with the luxury of having 8 hours each day where I am chained to a computer with little to do other than direct the actions of the minions that serve me (ok, so I have people I manage, but the previous comment sounded so much better!) and tend to post a lot. I do have less time on the weekends due to a busy summer schedule, but I typically can swing 1-2 posts each day on Saturday and Sunday.

I created Pete as a chance to roleplay someone a little more off the beaten path than most characters, but after two PbPs that fell apart right out of the gate I haven't had the chance to even get off the ground with him yet. He's far from optimized, has not taken one of the "gravy" curses that most builds like to steer towards, and is further handicapped by his appearance. But I am sure if I do manage to get him into a game he will be a lot of fun to play.

I think that Carrion Crown, with its darker theme, may just be the right place for him to take the stage and blossom.

Reading back through the gameplay thread, you have a lot of Pharasma worshipers. Not sure you'd want to have a party full of Pharasma people. Since my cleric's background is still in limbo, I can go with a different god. Sarenrae would go well with a Pharasma crew, and I already have a personality for him in my head. Let me know if you're interested in that adjustment.

Also, sorry if I seem overzealous, I've been trying to get into a few PBP after my games on enworld dried up.

What attracted you initially to Shelyn, Zander? I personally originally made up a Shelynite Paladin when I applied to this Recruitment thread & I've never really seen many others play Shelynite worshipers in CC, in spite of the fact that personally, I consider there is a lot that such a character might bring to the Campaign.
Maybe it's just me however.

A couple of things actually. First, I've never seen a divine character worship her, like you said. Also, with her portfolio's, I had a mental picture of him as a divine bard-like character. His domains are luck, because he's a gambler and a lady's man, and Protection, because when he finds something beautiful, he likes to protect it.

I changed it because I was having a hard time trying to figure out why a lover of art, music, and women would have spent much time dealing with the professor who focused on documenting evil so it can be countered.

Grand Lodge

I've completed his back story, and even was able to figure out a loose way to get him involved into the game and keep my original idea of Shelyn.

background:
There was no claps of thunder or heavenly fanfare when Zander was born, no omens to mark him as anything special. In fact, the middle child of 5 to a mediocre merchant, Zander was born quite average. He was neither the smartest of the children, nor the most social, but having two older brothers did make him strong. There are only so many “Why are you hitting yourself” games you can play before you start trying to push back. Given that he has no extraordinary qualities that separated him from his siblings, he spent most of his youth getting into trouble, as that was the only way to get attention. His favorite type of trouble was skipping classes in school and spending time with the… shall we say… less proper of the local populace. He would often spend hours in the artist district, listening to those who would be bards practicing their craft. He even posed on occasion for a portrait or sculpture, as even as a child, he had a decent physique, perhaps the only thing above average about him.

When it came time to decide on what to do with his life, Zander wanted something exciting, not the mundane life of a merchant he’d grown up watching. He wanted to live the life he heard about in all those bardic tales! Daring adventures, dashing heroes, damsel’s in distress, yes, THAT is the life to lead. Only problem is, he wasn’t very skilled in anything. He tried to become a wizard’s apprentice, but had 0 aptitude for the arcane. He thought about becoming a bard himself, but a pig squealing was more melodious than his singing voice. The fighter’s academy… no, who wants to be a sword grunt. He was about to give up, when a priest of Irori approached, questioning his troubled expression. He had never been very religious in the past, but anything was better than the mind numbing life he seemed destined to leave.

The priest led him to a small temple devoted to all the goodly gods, and offered to lead him in prayers. He agreed, but soon after the priest started, an absolutely gorgeous woman with auburn hair flecked with red’s, green’s, and gold’s caught his eye. There was a muse if ever there was one! She smiled at him, and Zanders heart sung with the music of angel’s. Completely forgetting himself, he stood up in the middle of the kindly priest’s prayer and dashed off after the woman as she disappeared behind a building. Alas, as he turned the corner, she was gone, and heavy be the heart of a man who sees the love of his life vanish like a wisp of smoke. He returned to the priest and offered apologies for his rudeness, explaining what he saw. The old priest just smiled a knowing smile, telling Zander that he was sure he’d find his way somehow.

That night, she came again, this time as he slept. She said her name was Shelyn, and she had seen Zanders heart was pure and goodly. They spoke but for a moment, but it seemed like an age, and when she left, a single, perfect rose remained. Zander awoke with a shock, lamenting that he could not have such a dream every night, and only then, did he discover the rose lying on the pillow next to him.

Zander poured himself into her studies, becoming an acolyte of her church and learning all he could about her. He learned of her wisdom, her guidance, her love. He even took up the weapons of her faith, to protect the beauty within those deemed worthy. As part of his tutelage, Zander travelled and learned of the other gods, and their tenants. It was there, in a temple of Pharasma, that Zander had a lively debate with a Professor Lorrimor. The two spent hours debating various philosophies and tenents. Eventually, Zander was forced to yield to the Professor as he could not rebut the example of used that death and decay can create beauty, as seen by the flower that uses the nutrients of the soil to grow, and those nutrients were once living things.

Upon completion of his training, Zander has set out on the road with a goal to visit some of the most holy of places, and spread the word of Shelyn as he goes.

Yep, still hanging around :)

@Algar: I don't recall your character submission. Would you post it again, please?

@Tamarie: :P

@Bloody Blind Pete: Good to know.

Ok, if no one else posts before Midnight, Central Time, I will call this phase closed & should expect to have a final decision before tomorrow afternoon.
Actually, I will call this phase closed after Midnight, Central Time no matter what, just the final decision might take longer if more people post.

Cedric is rather a easy going person. he is as much ready for for a good fight then a good diner.
Abandoned at an early age he doesn't know who his parents are or what his lineage is. He had to build himself up since a boy. Leaving the orphanage as soon as he was able to work (as per its policy), he rather roam the city and join a kids thief band. Acting as en enforcer for them he almost got away with the law. Up until the day one of his friends accidentally killed someone. Cedric tried as much s he could be he couldn't get his friend off the hook. Seeing the error of his ways his best friend had cedric promise him , before he hanged, to repay the debt he owed the old merchant for leaving his daughter all alone.

And so cedric left the gang, turning to mercenary work or anything that was legitimate as he promised that he would pay for the little girl's expenses. It has been a few years now and Cedric is still honoring the promise made to his friend as the girl is now a lovely and gentle teenager.

Still here, and have been checking daily to learn our divine fates.

Alright gentlemen, sorry to have kept you waiting, today has been a bit of a bear for me.
It is with both pleasure & sadness that I announce that Bloody Blind Pete will be finding his way to the little hamlet of Ravengro. Zander, Cedric, thank you both for your submissions, but I feel that Pete may 'fit' better with this group.
Good luck & good gaming.

Pete, if you would join us in the Discussion thread.

Grand Lodge

This was expected, I've been following the discussion thread and knew Pete had the edge. Thanks to those that voted for me, and good luck in Ravengro Pete!

Sorry Zander, but if it's fine with you I'll let our Oracle walk into the first burning pit trap we can find :D

Grand Lodge

Naa, he was cool enough to let another of my characters into one of his games, so no need to kill him, just rob him blind... oh wait...

Is recruitment still open for this?

I am a complete newbie when it comes to PbP games, but have been playing RPGs for about 30 years (mostly D&D, then Pathfinder).

If there is still room, I'd like to submit my name into the mix. :)

Sorry Taffer. Recruitment is presently closed for this Campaign & hopefully will remain so for the remainder of the Campaign.
Since opening recruitment is likely going to mean we have lost a player.

The good news is that new Campaigns frequently get started every few weeks, or less; so if you watch the Online Campaigns/Recruitment threads, you have a good chance of seeing one you would be interested in soon.

Thank you for the speedy reply. Good luck with your campaign!
