I don't see any technical reason why gamepads and MMOs need be incompatible. There is a PC/PS3+4 cross platform MMO that is doing very well at the moment - Final Fantasy 14. I've played using a controller in that game, and it is very robust and well thought out. It neatly steps around the 'not enough buttons' problem by using the triggers to modify the 8 core buttons, allowing a total of 24 actions (3x8, where the 3 is LT, RT, and LT+RT).

Now, I'm not saying that Goblinworks should go out of their way to implement something like that, as SquareEnix have done. People who wish to use their gamepads are fully capable of jury-rigging this sort of solution themselves. All they need do is stand aside.

On the disability front - when I played EVE, one of my alliance members was quadriplegic (or something similar), and played the game using a Hawking-style eye control interface. I didn't realize this fact for a full YEAR. Never underestimate the diversity of the players on the other end of the series of tubes.

Obviously, we can't accommodate every disability. But there are some very minor ways to accommodate most of the disabled gamers community : mostly not by implementing specific option, but by not implementing specific restrictions.

Gamepad are perfect examples, they are nothing but a way to interact with buttons, and you don't need to specifically have support for it, we have ways to emulate the keyboard or the mouse with various equipments, as long as there isn't a specific function to deactivate it, in the game.

An other very big thing is to just give us a cfg.ini, for input options. For example, in my specific case, I can use a mouse, but I always need to set the speed and sensitivity of the camera to a ridiculous amount that nobody would use. It doesn't change anything for anybody to have the possibility to set the camera sensitivity at 1300%, but it's the difference between Skyrim that I can play, and Bound by Flame, that I cannot, because I can't set the camera speed in BbF at my convenience.

You don't know what a disabled gamer is? It's pretty self explanatory man.

In my 38 years of living on this rock spinning around our Sun, I have seen, spoken to, engaged with or personally known (in an non-electronic format) as many disabled gamers as I do Russians, which is exactly ZERO.

So no, its not obvious to me what they experience, how many of them there are, what resources and accommodations they need, or anything about them. They are as unknown/alien/foreign/not-of-my-experience as may other things/situations/experiences.

Really? You don't know a single person with carpal tunnel? Either way, it really doesn't matter. You can tell by the even pace of yes and no votes that there are a lot of gamers that want this. Haters gonna hate though I guess. Its just sad that those who don't want it don't have to use it and still vote no

Removed some posts and their responses. While I'm glad things were settled amicably, I will warn that saying someone is lying because their experiences are different than your own is a horrible way to approach a conversation. Flag it and move on.

This morning I downloaded the Alpha Client for the 1st time, I then looked over the command keys and created a game profile for PFO on my Logitech Profile software.

I am happy with the results. I can freely move around using my left analog stick, reserving the d-pad for extra commands. With my right analog stick I was able to move the camera around with ease. I made a few adjustments and probably will make a few more, but I was able to play PFO with my gamepad for the most part. I did use my keyboard's num pad for combat. Mainly because it would've been a headache to remember which gamepad button I mapped to which combat feat. But after I get more use to the game, I probably will map the num keys to my gamepad.

I'm not a gamepadder, so I lack many knowledges; would it be useful to anyone for you to make your custom profile available for others to play with?

That is what I was hoping to hear man! I thought it would be a good idea to get you into the game early for reasons like this and get comfortable so you can have plenty of fun on day 1 (or Sept 15th). Really glad to hear it's working well for you! :)

In my experience, most people have different custom profiles for their gamepad based on what is comfortable for them.

I think the important part though is the movement.

For Left Stick X-Axis (Left) I assigned A key.
For Left Stick X-Axis (Right) I assigned D key.

For Left Stick Y-Axis (Up) I assigned W key.
For Left Stick Y-Axis (Down) I assigned S key.

For D-Pad (POV West) I assigned Q key.
For D-Pad (POV East) I assigned E key.
For D-Pad (POV North) I assigned R key. (Autorun)
For D-Pad (POV South) I assigned X key. (Stealth)

For the Right Stick X-Axis and Y-Axis I matched with the Mouse X and Y Axis.
For Left Trigger I assigned Left Mouse Button.
For Left Button I assigned Right Mouse Button.

Those above would problem be a good universal setting. The rest would rely heavily on personal preference.

I went ahead and programmed in the combat commands.

To start with:
Right Trigger assigned Tab
Right Button assigned Shift (I don't use this for the in-game Shift)

Y Button assigned If Shift 4 Else 1
X Button assigned If Shift 5 Else 2
A Button assigned If Shift 6 Else 3
B Button assigned ` (For weapon switching)

I assigned my Back button to my TeamSpeak Mic-on function.

I'm finding this all quite interesting. I just purchased a lappy with specs equivalent to my desktop pc. The pc has a nostromo plus a G-19 as peripherals. Over the past year and a half I have learned how to play Skyrim and Minecraft using the PC setup. I have found this PC setup to be downright enjoyable and reduces hand strain tremendously. I'm now wondering if I should go the gamepad route for the laptop to achieve the same.

Thanks, everyone!

Bookmarked for inclusion in the soon to be updated EE FAQ thread; and for new people to add new insight to the topic on hand. :)

In addition to the OP, I would add that "Invert X axis" and "Key bindings" is a hot topic amongst a lot of new players in the Alpha forums.
