Prior to the cull, I was seeing a lot of items repeated, and was petty convinced there couldn't be too many I hadn't seen.
Obviously, being just a "Star Voter" I haven't seen as many as some, but still.
Since the cull, I'm seeing a lot of new items, good ones!
I know what you mean.
There were times I would go through 10 pairs before I found a new item before the cull, now I see more new items, which is very good. It makes me want to hit that Marathon level. (even if I never see my own item)
I wonder if it will be like this for long or it will revert to lots of repeats after a few days. We didn't get that many repeats at first when we started voting.
I'm still seeing a lot of repeats...some from before the cull some new. But each time I find a new item it seems like its back in rotation just a couple of votes later.
Luck of the draw I suppose.

Haven't seen any repeats today, after about 20 minutes of voting... Some items I've seen before, but not more than once today as was the case a few days ago.
I am still seeing a lot of repeats, but I am also seeing new items again every 4-5 pairs (I even saw a pairing that was both new items last night), some of them quite good.
On average, the cull shouldn't affect the number of repeats a given voter sees. Items a voter hasn't yet seen will tend to be evenly distributed between the bottom 25% and the top 75%, so cutting the bottom 25% won't change the ratio of seen to unseen items for most voters.
The overall quality post-cull seems better, but I'm still seeing repeats. I've yet to see my own entry. Hopefully it made it past this first and cruelest cut.

I disagree. My understanding is that "equally good/bad" counts as a non-vote that makes it more likely to appear again for other people, and I think that's more likely to happen for items at the bottom than at the top (since it's harder to vote for a bad item than a good one).
ETA: So my thesis is that the 25% cut will tend to have had less ballots, and therefore have been appearing more often. I obviously have no way of proving this.

For awhile there I saw a triplet of very similar ideas, and that was post-cull. They have faded away now.
Ok, I'm a Dedicated Voter now, and couldn't have been far off, so now I feel mor authoritative, and still I'm amazed how many new items I am seeing.

Believe me, when you hit Marathon the bloom will be off the rose.
The really bad stuff is gone, but a lot of what is left over is still "meh" at best. At least that is what I have been finding. YMMV. :)
Before the cull I had a lot of pairings where I didn't want to vote for either, but since the cull I am finding that the quality is better and that when repeats show up I defiantly like one over the other. A lot less ties for me now, though I am surprised at the number of items that still show up that fit the "makes adventuring easy" category (camping/cooking items). I would have thought a lot of those would have disappeared in the cull.

I tend to favor a more creative attempt at something new over an item that is a simple SIAC or SAK, and when those two show up paired together I pick the one that has a better creative theme.

I've decided I'm voting against telephones and free scroll machines out of general principals.
And if you get phone and free scroll machine to choose from?

I'd probably focus on formatting and other issues to decide.
