Correct; we wanted an element of redemption possibility for Ardathanatus, and to do so, we couldn't have him become a drow. Furthermore, not every evil elf becomes a drow, even the super evil ones who worship chaotic evil demigods. That is supposed to be an incredibly rare event, and by putting a super evil elf into an adventure where that's not only something that happens, but it's not even mentioned at all helps us to confirm and further establish how rare an event that is.
That said, if you want him to make the transition in your game, that's certainly a logical and interesting addition to the game.

Ah OK. I think my main mistake was in misremembering just HOW mad Hialin was in Second Darkness, upon reading it again he is a LOT of corrupt than I gave him credit for.
I was also wondering, is it possible for a drow to transform back into an elf by being extraordinarily good/pure? If so I guess this would be significantly more rare though since I doubt there are as many good/neutral drow as there are evil/neutral elves...

LOl..I wonder how that idea would play out for a certain FR scimitar wielding drow

I have direct orders from my players to NEVER use that FR scimitar weilding drow in my games...just like I can never use cute furry aliens in my Traveller games...Oh The Horror!
Ardathanatus was surprised...fought like the crazy high level evil cleric he was...heals and mass quantities of potions were needed...but in the end...
He died...not quite the end boss...but, hey, he put up one heck of a fight.
How did he end up in any of your games? Saved? Slaughtered?

Nope; the transformation is a one-way trip. A good drow stays a drow.

I'm excited to see how my group handles Ardathanatus. We've got a wannabe paladin (aasimar cleric of Ragathiel, heavy on the law, light on the good) who wants to redeem everything he doesn't kill first- heck, he's grooming the sneezing mite from the first adventure as a cohort. But his ideas of what's redeemable and what's not vary from session to session. So on his end, it's probably a matter of whether he dies before the dude can shout theology into his face.
Our other player, who's running a female member of the Ardocs and her clockwork bodyguard, will prolly try to redeem him, especially if the cleric decides to kill him (she's a CG contrarian who likes to stick it to the stick-in-the-mud cleric). I'll post when/if/how this happens, assuming the thread's still alive.
