I decided to start a thread on an idea that started from the deadliest warrior thread but thought of more of an adventure type idea. Everyone is a contestent in a contest. The entire arena is a series of "Y"s leading into a central hub. Every contestent moves from their branch fighting their opposite. the winner then moves on fighting battle after battle until the final 2 contestants meet in the middle and battle to be the champion.
The outer branches are simple battle fields and they get progressively more complex as you get to the center.
Since everyone is traveling in they will have a little time to prep.

What do you think of this idea.

Hey, quick question for you, the GM in this regards, am I allowed to reload a crossbow with a Light Shield in my other hand? I read another forum that didn't really give me any answers, so I'll just ask you instead.
BTW, the reason behind a Light Shield is that it says in the text for the light shield that you can hold something in your hand with the shield on, but you can't use a weapon for combat. As such, you can fire a Light Crossbow in 1 hand with a -2 to hit. I would assume that the only reason they included this was so that you can use it with a Light Shield, but the fact is I don't know.

Gonna have to look that up. Logically I would think it's possible but slow. To load a crossbow you need a serious pull 100+lbs of force so you'll need two hands. Getting a good grip on the cable with a shield grip in the way sounds like a pain. Since the rules say you can do stuff with the other hand but can't fight with it I would assume you can't get a good grip on anything.
So my rule would be yes you can but it takes an extra round with a light shield to do because of how weak a grip you have on the cable and no penalty with a buckler.
Again i'll have to look at the official rules.

** spoiler omitted **...
Looks good. Although your CR would be 10 (level -1)
As for the other books not sure how many other people have that book. Once more people chime in about this i'll take a look. I haven't picked up that book yet, but can be tempted.
Here is a run down of all the ideas so far
Across the planes the obelisks rose. 100 feet of smoky glass, indestructible and shining brightly a beacon for all to see. Each calls for the greatest champions to fight in a game of the gods. The winner to be risen to mythic heights. The time draws near and gateways are open. The challenge begins.
THE ARENA
Every challenger enters the arena through their gateway into a branch. Each pair of branches converge on a battlefield. Each pair of battlefields has a branch that converge onto another battlefield continuing until the final two challengers fight for the ultimate prize.
The battlefields will vary in nature from simple open spaces to more complex multi leveled areas. To enter the tunnels to the next tier of battlefields a barrier must be removed.
Since everyone is traveling in they will have a little time to prep but will have to deal with dwindling resources as they go from battle to battle.
Every battlefield challenges a different aspect. From speed to perception to dealing with secondary win conditions (get the key to escape the battlefield, thereby winning by escaping)
The entire competition takes place over the course of a day
WINNING Whom ever is rendered incapable of continuing combat looses. You can win by killing your opponent, turning them into a tree, blowing them up or encasing them in rock with no way of escape, tossing them off a cliff or otherwise incapacitating or any other way of rendering your opponent incapable of mounting an attack.
THE PRIZE The final Victor will be graced by the gods of the game and made Mythic (A chance to play with Mythic rules)
THE CHALLENGER
Build using the following rules:
CORE RULES Core Rules, Advanced Players Guide, Ultimate Combat, Ultimate Magic, Ultimate Equipment, Advanced Race Guide (only Core, Featured and Uncommon races.)

How many branchs (total fights), before the final battle? Teams or solo fights? all fights PvP or DM encounters mixed in?
Casters recharge spells between encounters? (if not casters would be severly handycapped)
Free healing between encounters, or should i carry a wand of healing?
any houserules we should know about? Or are we playing RAW?
How are we playing? Pbp ??
Sounds like fun... thinking...

So you're saying that it takes an extra round to reload a Light Crossbow with a Shield in your hand? As in... I already have it so that I don't provoke attacks of opprotunity from reloading it, and it's a free action to reload it, so because of wearing a light shield it makes it a FULL ROUND ACTION to reload it?

Sounded more like he was guessin around making up spontaneous houserules. Great base for competition:P

I submit Meredith Nerissa as my candidate, though I will be adding another level to her before the match.

Ravingdork |

Are we allowed to use monster feats from the Bestiary? My merfolk is really fond of Improved Natural Armor.
Also, shouldn't sorcerer/wizard HP be d6?
How is this arena going to be anything like Deadliest Warrior if there is anything besides combat? Sounds like it's going to be so much more.

Ravingdork |

If you allow for it, here is my updated character.
I missed your earlier rule about intelligent/special items. Sorry. For the purposes of this game, I will be treating her as if she had a normal cauldron of flying (albeit still filled with water).
That correction will free up about 250gp of her starting funds, which I will be using for mundane gear.

I'll be submitting Goblin Gus after I fix his stats to the 25 point buy, level him up, and fix his equipment.
Does the Goblin Gunslinger feat allow a goblin to use a musket sized for a medium creature?
Prerequisites: Goblin.
Benefit: You can wield Medium firearms without taking the penalty for an inappropriately sized weapon.
Normal: You take a –2 penalty when using an inappropriately sized weapon.

Raving Dork: My guess would be Bestiary feats are out.
Also, I think partial wands are not allowed under the idea of no nonstandard items. The usefulness (and cheesiness) of partial wands cannot be overstated: and it only makes the math for all participants much more difficult.
Wands, IMNHO need to be purchased at full charges.

As far as I'm concerned, as part of starting gear, partial wands are standard. In any case, cheesiness is highly subjective, so let's just leave it to chaiboy to decide all that, shall we?
But hey, if you're afraid of my character, you don't have to participate. :P

Ravingdork |

Can we use the Piecemeal Armour Rules?
To be perfectly honest my biggest annoyance is going to be Gunslingers.
He should specify what the gun levels are. Are we using Early and the limited selection of guns from Golarion or what?
The only thing that concerns me is the GM. He has a lot of questions to answer and his rulings will undoubtedly have a dramatic effect on the contestants' capabilities.

Yes. Still using the musket master. Emerging is basically as written in the book for prices, classes, and feat selection.

RAW - wands do not have the number of charges that we want - they either have random number, (which is silly in this kind of competition) or, have full when you craft.
There's no reason to get snarky - I'll go with whatever rules chaiboy wants. If we allow partial wands I'll have about 20 of them in my haversack, with a variety of charges from 2 to 20. It gives an advantage to those that are really willing to do adventures in bookkeeping.
Also, as a competitor, I would claim foul with your idea that you can float in a flying cauldron. The cauldron simply isn't big enough to float in - to stand in - sure. Finally I would note that if it *were* filled with water to a depth of 4 feet - approximating the cauldron as a 4 foot sphere results in 33.5 cu feet of water, with a weight of 2093 lbs - well over the capacity of the cauldron to *fly*.

Alright, since I don't get to play high-level characters very often, I figure I totally should try this out. So, I'm thinking I would like to enter this with an Oracle, which I will need to stat up, but I have a couple questions.
1. I understand ARG is allowed, so does that also mean racial favored class bonuses are allowed from it, as well? So for example, can I choose a new spell as my favored class bonus for Oracle if I'm a human? (Or one of the other races that allows that) Edit: An addition on this one. The bonus says that it must be of a level lower than the highest spell level you can cast. At first level, with the ability to cast level 1 spells, does that mean I could grab level 0 spells to put on the list? (Probably won't bother either way, but am curious)
2. How exactly is this going to be run? Play by post? Just curious, because I haven't done that before, so I would like to know if I should figure it out ahead of time.
3. And, put fairly bluntly, are we shamelessly min-maxing, since this is pretty much gonna be all about combat? I'm guessing yes, but just thought I'd ask.

Medieval Crossbows used a Crank mechanism to draw the cable back.
Light Crossbows were able to leave the crank on the bow. Heavy Crossbows couldn't.
That said Why didn't you post this in the PbP forums?
Honestly I was looking for feedback on the idea. not sure where the best place to post a ready adventure at.

![]() |

Why is it I now wanna make a "The Hunger Games" based campaign...
lol. I was thinking about it before i came up with this one... but then realized if you put a bunch of guys stripped of equipment out in front of a pile of weapons the sorcerers and druids would eat everyone else alive. I was thinking that maybe there start with a collar that null's their power and the key stone is there in the pile to.
In any case it is doable but going to be pretty tricky when half are walking artillery. even if you deal with them you still have the issue of the monk.
definitely should start a thread on it and see if anyone has any ideas for it.

You can use all rules in the books so: 2 Traits, Archtypes, Favorite class swaps etc.

![]() |

More questions:
When you say the entire competition takes place over the course of a day, does that mean spell caster's won't get to rest and prepare spells between battles?
No clerics, druids and mage classes will have to figure out how to divide up their spells between all the battles.
Keep in mind that all the battles means 2-3 battles.
After breaking down the numbers the arena has to start with 2,4 or 8 people. any other number will leave odd people not fighting in battles. I don't see doing this with more than 8 people. maybe as a forum game can pull off 16 or 32 people but right now small is better.
So you have 3 battles at the most and only have to deal with one opponent. organize spells appropriately. I think there are magic items that help you get back spells so you might want to invest in those.

Ravingdork |

Should we move this to the PBP threads?
Probably.
Where are those threads?
You can use all rules in the books so: 2 Traits, Archtypes, Favorite class swaps etc.

I'll have about 20 of them in my haversack, with a variety of charges from 2 to 20.
Your wands will make a nice addition to my collection once I take them from you in the arena. ;D
