Hold me closer Eidolon dancer...

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

Grand Lodge

I've been running Pathfinder in a homebrew world. One of my players is a Summoner. His dragon-ish eidolon has an excellent Acrobatics skill. Of late the resilient, and nearly independent, eidolon has been using his skill to great effect by dancing in the Colossal City in my world. My discussion question:

Should I allow an eidolon to take levels in Bard, maybe even Dervish Dancer?

The eidolon has been taking cues from the Dervish Dancing Rogue and the Barbarian's fighting "prayers" to Gorum.

I love my players, they never fail to amuse me!

For balance reasons, I would say not unless the summoner is forgoing a level. Generally, you don't want to give an Eidolon extra things outside of what the summoner grants him, because the Eidolon is already the key recipient of most of the summoner's benefits. Depending on build, many summoners are little more than a "remote control" for the real character, their Eidolon.

Basically, it sounds funny and maybe even warranted, but it's probably not the best idea balance-wise.

Nope. Never. No.

If you wish you can translate certain bard skills into evolutions which the summoner can grant hsi eidolon. But otherwise don't open a potential can of worms by tap dancing (heh) down that road.

If you feel the player and you can handle it, why not?

Just remember to have fun and not alienate your other players (They may get jealous! :P)

*BTW, Nice thread title. :)

I wouldn't suggest doing it for free, unless it is just a flavor thing in which case sure why not.

Homebrew a solution and figure out how many evolution points you think an eidolon bard should be worth and present it to the player as an option. I wouldn't suggest denying the Summoner a level though.

Also I feel the need to mention although the dragon might be able to do some nice tumbles make sure it has Proffesion (Dance) too! :)

Not as long as the summoner still has control over it. You could maybe fluff-split them so the eidolon becomes a creature of it's own.
