I am glad we will have big multi-game guilds in the game. I hope you guys get a settlement or two up and going.
That my friend is inevitable. While our members are sometimes reserved about their investments, we are very dedicated to the sandbox genre. It might be into the open launch, but our CC's will be seen around Golarion. I often say we can bring fifty interested members to a badly constructed game. Its funny, but it's no lie. Imagine what we can bring to a well built sandbox.

In the mean time we have two game areas that have gathered quite a bit of interest. Trade and bounty hunting are two popular areas of our <Structure>.
Areks and Krow are both big supporters of the Bloodwolf Clan. Would you two care to go through some of your ideas thus far? How has the process of contributing to the story and motivations of this unit affected your personal stories? Have you enjoyed the amount of control you have had in the process of it's development as a member? Do either of you see this CC as a leadership interest as the game nears completion?
Areks did a stellar job of summing up the feeling of control given to the Freemen who will make up the backbone of these chartered companies. The leadership does an excellent job of guiding the thinking, offering critical pieces of information at important junctures in the conversation, and sometimes giving it a friendly nudge when the discussion dies down.
You have an excellent crew of officers already, High Thane; I am truly excited to be on the ground floor not only for this excellent game, but also with a gaming guild that honestly wants opinions and input.
As to my personal story, it has opened my eyes. Areks hit the nail on the head regarding personal growth in Golarion lore; I've already indulged in several choice materials the role play division has suggested, and I'm finding a wider understanding between the characters and chartered companies that make up Pax Aeternum.
Bounty hunting will need a gentle yet constant touch from the Huntmaster; with the current bounty system, we will need not only Pax Aeternum to know the Hounds are on constant alert, but that the surrounding populace can trust us. When they are wrongfully harmed, Bloodwolf Clan needs to be the phrase first to mind as they choose an authorized bounty hunter.
While I am a Hound in a galaxy far, far away, I've been eying the Watchers and Seekers with interest as well. Little is known as to GW and Ryan's thoughts with these systems, but I've got a hankering to get down and dirty with local politics, political boundaries, and who who's on the behind-the-scenes string-pullers (I'm looking at you, Blaeringr).
Apologies on the long post; trying to catch up with the fast-moving conversation!

I have serious concerns that this game is going even remotely resemble Pathfinder. With the focus on PVP and town building over going on grand quests to save the kingdom (or any other quest) is always going to be a concern of mine. When i think if Pathfinder or DnD, i always think of the small group, going up against odds to beat whatever vile plan the BBEG has for the world. I dont tend to think of open world pvp and placing bounties.
The fact that they are going skill based and not class based (even if the skills are themed based on the classes), takes alot away from the uniqueness of the classes and will lead most players being a "mix and mash" of useful skills (basically min/maxing) instead of the more focused characters im used to in PnP.
But the fact that they are listening and hopefully taking ideas the future players are putting forth is a comforting thought.

LDG: Now we get very, VERY personal. Do you make a Halfling or a Gnome, and why?
Ryan Dancey: No opinion. I’m a dwarf fan.
This is awesome to see! Dwarves have been neglected in many games, imo, with a Dwarf fan involved behind the scenes the stout folk shall finally attain their rightful place at the head of the table! (in a tavern near you)

Personally, in a game with this type of time and investment, min/maxing is a non-issue. It is about the character, the settlement and the story that can evolve from it. Min/maxing is something some types of folks do, but in a game that will be slow and steady progress instead of racing to max level I think min/maxing is not going to be all that common, at least in my opinion. I know my characters will be built based upon their backgrounds, goals, personality, and profession direction and not based upon min/maxing at all.
Some min/maxing will happen in any game, with some folks, but only if we decide to do that. Instead I chose to focus on being true to my character concept instead. And from what I have seen of the stories our members are coming up with so far, I think that character concept is going to trump the min/max factor by far.

I just wanted to jump in here and state I greatly enjoyed our conversation about the psycology of the information trade, relative security, and maintaining a good reputation (inside and outside of mechanics). I think you have a good head on your shoulders on those types of subjects, which will be direly important. The last thing any society needs is witch hunters, or a mired reputation. I think you understand where those limits lie.
If you ever want to write a proposal for why you think you would fit in well as our Seeker we would love to read it. Just PM me, Bjorn , Kard, and Kitnyx on our forums with an outline.

Good stuff so far, anxious to see more.
We're also still working on developing the Bloodwolf Clan's backstory. As soon as we finish that, we'll move on through all our other sections and continue fleshing everything out. Please let us know your ideas, particularly you Hounds!
Thank you Thane, I have many more of those thoughts that need to be written and submitted.
Regarding the Bloodwolf Clan, I am amazed to see the level of involvement and detail that is coming out of this discussion. Lots of great origin ideas, I can't wait to see what else comes out of this discussion.

Hello all, thought I'd drop a line here.
For all those who don't know I'm The Lewdz on Pax Gaming. The different roles I've played in Pax are aplenty, and I have ventured and played every MMO Pax currently supports.
Right now, however, I am content with being a general member and awaiting the release of the much anticipated PfO. I don't remember myself being so excited for an MMO since SWG was in its early development. Unfortunately with my current busy schedule I find myself behind in my knowledge of PfO and Pax Aeternum.
I know my character will be a crafter (and that's all for now, like I said, too little knowledge for me to fledge out anything further), and I know that the chartered company for such is the Aeternum Trade Alliance. What I'm looking for is some direction on where to look for more informationi on the ATA (as I'm going to call it because seriously, too many letters).

I made a thread for this discussion. We don't have a whole lot to go off of the mechanics, but it can't hurt to get the talks going.
Also a good time for interested members like yourself to flush out the story a bit.

With the Holidays fast approaching, some of our Pax Gaming members are reflecting on what brought them to our community, and why they have hung around so darn long!
Thalion, our Lord of the Rings division has been hosting events ranging from Yule time, to leveling groups, to snow ball fights. Over at Emunio with Eve a formal war is taking place in our little area of nullsec, and they invite Paxians and recruits to drop on by regardless of experience. Towards that end they have built an organization around lowsec called Pax Auxillium . Our Republic and Imperial divisions for SWTOR are still heavily progressing through content, and have recently promoted a one year swtor celebration. Agnitio for The Secret World is eagerly digging through the new raid content, as well as bracing themselves for the increase in recruitment from the free to play model. Praesidium for Guild Wars 2 is enjoying the winter celebration events, WvWvW content, and has some interesting events planned for the near future. If you enjoy end game content, Illuminatus for Rift has just plowed through the expansion content, and is chomping at the teeth to dig into the new raids. They have also built a beautiful guild dimension that is worth checking out! Infinitus for Star Trek Online has reached a milestone with a recent major upgrade to their space dock. Concordia for Planet Side 2 fills our voicechat with dozens of soldiers most weekends. I can't promise that I help when I join, but I certainly do have fun. Medex has done wonders with the division since he took over, and I am always honored to provide a meat shield to their more experienced ops.
In between our major divisions and our non MMO interests, there is certainly no shortage of things to do while waiting for Pathfinder Online. We have Battlefield 3, Minecraft, Mechwarrior Online, and virtual tabletop support for pen and paper games. We have three Pathfinder pen and paper games up and running, with one still in the planning stages. I suggest anyone interested to give our Tabletop Section a look see.
On the horizon our members and interested recruits can expect an upgraded, visually stunning new forums soon after the turn of the new year. Built with social media in mind, it will allow our members to earn medals, like threads, and join / display social groups. I have been lucky enough to get a sneak peak and I have to say our web designers have really outdone themselves this time.
Also a rumor worth noting is the growing interest and participation in other kickstarter sandboxes like Repopulation and Greedmonger. I hear through the grapevine that Repopulation has gained enough interest to warrant its own division perhaps soon. I certainly look forward to watching the process, we do love our sandboxes!
Kard has just finished a Aeternum Roleplaying Guide over on our forums, and I thought that provided a great window to update those interested on our progress on such things.
Our Roleplaying Guide is like a cliff notes to our origin story, and takes what is seven hundred years worth of carefully written lore and boils it down to something easily researched for individual character tie ins. It includes the story reasoning behind everything from our major divisions, established CC's, titles, founders, and more. It also includes a FAQ section that will be updated as we address member questions.
We are still working away in the background on new chapters to our Origin Story. I expect soon after the New Year to see the next upcoming chapters released. Before then we do have an amazingly detailed Timeline that ties in our origin story, Golarion cannon, and your stories into one convenient, detailed entry. We also have a Bio Template and Character Bio section for our members to write a quick snapshot of how they see their character.
Like Kard mentioned in the post above, we have enough of our Titles and Departments and Companies completed to open the discussion up to our membership. We like to take things one at a time, dependant on member interest. It was no suprise to us that the first interest we generated was centered around bounty hunting, and The Bloodwolf Clan took off. I expect to see a similar interest generate in the Aeternum Trade Alliance as well, as interest there came close to matching the Hounds. In these threads we talk first about story origins for the unit, as all our CC's will have a story basis. During this time we are also identifying future leadership, because as time moves forward into game development we will be filling those roles. In Pax we reward effort and initiative, Aeternum will be no different.
In one of our leadership discussions the subject was brought up "What are we selling?". While I don't think communities need to be a business, the exercise was none the less fruitful. One thing I think we learned is we cannot sell ourselves as less than a multi gaming community. Pax Gaming comes before our individual divisions, and that might not settle well for everyone. We recognize we are not the community for everyone, and we appeal to a certain type of gamer. If you like organizations that stand the test of time, flourish inside their games, excel just as much outside of it, and respect you as a person above your gaming skills I suggest giving us a shot. The ability to excel at our games without belittling our own membership, the ability to concentrate on multiple game aspects instead of specializing in one, and the ability to enjoy content together is paramount to us.
So what does Aeternum itself hope to provide? Like most organizations we are kingdom builders. Above that we strive for nothing less than multiple guilds creating massive content. Content not only for us to enjoy, but that leave a lasting impact on the server community. As Rawn (Architect of Pax Gaming) says "When it comes to a sandbox its either go big, or go home". Multiple times a month you can expect to see festivals hosted by our settlements. In between expect to see our Wardens and Thanes finding the most lucrative and interesting ways to improve our slice of Golarion, and how to make lasting relationships with our neighbors. Whether we attract nefarious overlords with knives to our back or benevolent leaders with a hand in greeting, we look forward to the story we write.
Thanks for stopping by, and Happy Holidays!

Dak, you made me want to join Pax Gaming all over again with that post. It is definitely something I would do all over again. While Kard and I are away from our family by blood, our Pax family is always here for us. Right now I am not even playing a MMO game with Pax and yet I always have our shoutbox open and chat all day long (often to avoid doing homework). I am in three of the Pax PnP games though (all Pathfinder!) and while I love the holidays I can't wait for the busy to end so we can start those games back up again.
On that note, I am going to go play XCOM and see if my soldiers (all named after my fellow Paxians) can save the world from the aliens.
Happy holidays to everyone! Stay safe and enjoy!

Amazing. So glad I put my application in. Everybody in Pax has been so great and welcoming, and this post just makes me love it even more.
I strongly, strongly suggest that any interested parties go here: http://www.paxgaming.com/index.php?topic=922.0
It's a pretty straightforward process, answer some initial questions and then get to know the members on the forum while they ask you some more questions :)

This is great stuff, High Thane. The River Freedoms are as chaotic neutral as a set of guiding principles can be; take what you want as long as you can back it up with force, with a couple of more concrete rules (no slavery, no breaking of oaths). Even then, the multitude of brigands, tyrant leaders and robber barons who rule the rivers and roads mean that the River Freedoms are more guidelines than stringent rules.
With the rise of Pax Aeternum within the River Kingdoms, things had to be done differently; we are, by no means, a chaotic (or even neutral) society, and it will be important that even the newest Freeman knows Pax's stand on all Six Freedoms. Having them answered straight from the founder himself adds further flavor.
Now the question remaining; what is Goblinworks stance on the River Freedoms and their level of involvement within PfO?

![]() |

I'm hoping they get more into how transporting goods from point a to point b will work, how the road system will work, fast travel, etc. I've seen some interesting discussions on it here on the forum's, but I'd like to see where they see it going.
With the whole video question thing their doing, this might be a good time to get that answered... ohhh Areks!
