Awww a Dhampir Kinslayer is the way to go for this AP.... dhampir sorc... booooo

So far this one is pretty fun, melee damage can be low if the cavalier decides not to charge as a couple of the construct encounters showed:

LG Halfling Female Oracle (Enlightened Philosopher and Tongues-Infernal) - Plays as a relatively naive and pacifistic character, speaking infernal in combat made the first introduction to Ravengro citizens ammusing. Also chose to put give her only 7 in Con and has proceded to roll like crap for HP at each level, at level 3 is sitting at 10.

CN Halfling Male Cavalier of the Paw - Is considering taking a few levels of rogue or low templar for some sneak attack damage.

CG Halfling Rogue - Out of character is constantly given suggestions that he should act evilly, hasn't acted on these suggestions...yet.

N Halfling Female Witch

I had no hand in them choosing to be all halflings, and being a new GM I haven't really taken advantage of it from a role-playing aspect

An entirely good-aligned party, nice.

I've yet to get a group who'll do that of their own free will. I look forward to the day it finally happens.

Used to be pretty much the norm, at one point in time.

Well it's not entirely free will.. I strictly forbid evil alignments, and I strongly discourage even neutral ones. I like my players to be heroes! As Pendagast says used to be the norm back then.

We are about halfway through Ashes at Dawn. The party is:
Human Life Oracle 12
Aasimar Cleric 5/Holy Vindicator 6 of Pharasma
Elven outsider cat (can't remeber the name)Sorcerer 9
Wolf Shaman Druid 9 (cat's cohort)
Human ninja 11
Elf Ranger 9/Fighter 2 that occassionally plays with us.

I'm GM-ing a Gestalt campaign at the moment so we have:

Ramon Veracruz, the NG Human Cleric of Pharasma/Alchemist (Grenadier)

Pending Patent, the CN Half-Orc Armored Hulk Barbarian/Fighter

Seeth Firetail, the NE Catfolk Barbarian/Fighter. But he's not really Evil so I'll probably ask him to swap to True Neutral or something.

Maudril Athanuthe, the LN Aasimar Bard/Summoner, whose Eidolon I swear to kick in the balls at some point because he always snickers at things.

And last but not least, Candice Root, the CN Changeling Fighter/Druid and her animal companion Bob the Raptor.

Everyone's level 3 (and is likely to level up middle of next session). And we may be picking up a new character, either Denah Vishnuyal the Ifrit Sorcerer/Ranger or Guillermo Veracruz (yes relation) the Gunslinger/Spellslinger.

Sovereign Court

My group's party, the Redeemers of Shadow, as of the beginning of Shadows of Gallowspire:

-Airalis, N elven spirit ranger 13
-Arach Deadeye, CN dhampir ninja 10/ shadowdancer 3
-Dr. Greyson Marlowe*, CE 1/2 elf alchemist 7/barbarian 1/master chymist 8
-Kondo, CN kellid barbarian 13
-Opprimere, LN varisian cleric 13 of Pharasma
-Shril, N bleachling gnome black-blooded oracle of the heavens 13

*still suffering from schizophrenia after Wake of the Watcher the Dr. has slowly been turning CE, while in a fun turn around his alter ego Mr. Barrows from the Master Chymist is shifting to CG. The Dr. is plotting to kill his party and has already contributed to the death of at least on former character (the clerics deceased inquisitor of gorum).

First time as DM, been playing since 2011ish, and on Broken Moon (arrived at the Lodge and meeting the residences).

'Seven' (NG half-elf alchemist 7) from Caliphas. Abandoned by his elven mother for not being 'talented' enough in magic, Seven (no last name) became pretty much an agoraphobic savant. Likes to scream (girlishly) when attacked, and hurls bombs. Professor acted as a father figure/mentor.

Illori (CN elf rogue 7) from Greengold, Kyonin. Liking urban environs more than other elves, he wound up being hired by the Professor for his particular services. Has a bit of a libido, without concern for gender.

Phineas Gage (NG human magus 7) formerly of Barstoi, then Lepidstadt. A sort of scholar/mercenary (former thanks to the professor) who loves wine and debate. Especially the wine. Devout of Pharasma.

Sullivan Dane (CG human inquisitor 7)from Courtaud, and a devout of Cayden Cailen. Strictly a monster-hunter against the unnatural (which he considers any that threaten human(oid) kind (elves, humans, dwarves, orcs, etc), Sullivan is a canny investigator, who sometimes hides behind aliases and pretends to know nothing of the supernatural.

Morro (NG dhampir inquisitor 7) was formerly a slave from Cheliax, and was bought, then set free by the good Professor (he was studying vampiric influences, and also was moved by Morro's plight). Morro joined with the church of Pharasma (helped by Lorrimor's 'connections'), as a church-sanctioned bounty hunter.

The campaign I'm gming
Unnamed protagonist male gestalt alchemist/archeologist 2
Running a one man campaign let him start at level two and use hero points. I helped him build with a bit of what was to come in mind , he has yet to name his character because he says he has trouble with names. He will most likely be taking leadership. He has done pretty well with just one session under his belt. I feel going solo really adds to the gothic horror feel.

I wholeheartedly agree Nimrodii. I'm playing solo as well, and am also using Gestalt rules and using both Hero and Harrow points to help compensate. There have been some tight spots, but I made it through HoH with only minor occasional adjustments by the GM. BTW, I'd be glad to share my experiences behind some spoiler blocks if you're concerned about specific sticky points for a solo endeavor. At any rate, being alone has made pretty much EVERY encounter scary, even if it doesn't seem particularly challenging.

---

Anyway, my "party":

Hadarai Half-Elven (Gestalt NG Bladebound/Hexcrafter Magus, Synthesist Summoner, just made level 4) is the bastard son of Count Lucinean Galdana of Amaans. While not in line for his father's post, he was nonetheless raised almost as a son and treated well (kind of a Jon Snow and Eddard Stark relationship from SoI&F). His father knew Professor Lorrimor and arranged for Hadarai to study and travel with him.

He and the Professor encountered his eidolon (Cykranosh) when, while investigating an ancient crypt, they found themselves in a dire struggle against its long dead inhabitants. Cykranosh was also entombed there, but unlike the others, had managed to hold onto his sanity and will, although his physical form was no more (in effect he's a ghost). He spoke directly into Hadarai's mind and brokered a deal whereby he would save them both and give Hadarai all of his power, but in return Hadarai must allow himself to be bound to Cykranosh, and must vow to protect Ustalav from the Evil that stirs once more. Seeing little alternative, Hadarai agreed.

Cykranosh was basically once a powerful enemy of the Whispering Tyrant, and participated in the Shining Crusade against his rule almost a thousand years ago. After their victory and the imprisonment of the dread lich, Cykranosh vowed never to rest while his enemy lives, and to rise again to protect Ustalav from his evil should he ever stir. The years have robbed him of physical form and much of his power, but with his new ally in Hadarai, he will eventually reclaim his lost power, and hopes that together, they can save Ustalav from a second reign of terror.

Upon hearing of the Professor's death, Hadarai was shocked and saddened to hear that his mentor was gone, and made the journey from Willowmourn to Ravensgo for the funeral. Upon going through the professor's notes, his path led inexorably to the haunted prison at the outskirts of town...

---

Mechanically, the temp HP buffer and great AC provided from the eidolon have helped tremendously in my survival so far. I'm also making use of the skilled evolution to get important rogue/scout skill boosts (perception, stealth, disable device). The character can do a little bit of everything, and is still effective in combat. So far, its been loads of fun. Kendra is the only person in Ravensgro who has seen Hadarai summon Cykranosh; all social interaction has been as a "normal" half-elf (although the townsfolk are aware I'm a magic user). That has certainly made for some interesting encounters, as I've obviously got to change tactics pretty radically to survive without the eidolon suit.

Bladebound and Synthesist are meshing very well flavor-wise for this combination as well. Although ordinarily, the synthesist's eidolon loses its independent sentience, since it and the summoner become one creature when bound, we have arranged Cykranosh's mind and will to manifest via the intelligence of the Black Blade, which keeps him "around" even when he isn't summoned, and gives opportunity for good RP going forward.

Grand Lodge

I am gearing up for this Adventure Path right now. I hope to run it once a month with "only" 4 players, I have 14 interested. (O.O) Which means I will probably do every other week and run two groups. My gimmick for this will be that I am going to run the Mythic rules for the players with each player being touched by the gods at birth (either Desna, Iomedae, or Pharasma).

I will come back and revisit this post when the groups are assembled and I am ready to go.

It's been a while since I've posted on the forums. YES, my Carrion Crown group is still going, but the party has changed significantly since last I updated you good folks. We just started Book IV, and I am prefacing with Carrion Hill as they travel from Feldgrau to Thrushmoor. The party is level 8.

Current party makeup:

Brask Blackadder (CN Half-Orc Barbarian) - One of the original members of the group. Due to a run in with a Dimensional Shambler during their overland travels and a mishap when the creature used it's Shift Planes ability with Brask in its grasp at the same instant another party member struck the killing blow. The ensuing mishap (to the rest of the group, Brask seemed to blink out for an instant and then reappear, but to Brask he was sent somewhere in the Dark Tapestry where he floated in the ether for a year being exposed to all its maddening wonderment) left Brask afflicted with madness (Multiple Personality Disorder). He came back with his original mind, a personality that thinks it's constantly shooting a nature documentary, an evil personality akin to Kenpachi Zaraki (bleach reference), a doom and gloom nihilist that bemoans everything he does as futile since they're all going to die, and Richard Nixon. In a near-death experience at the Stairs of the Moon, where he fell off the edge of the top with Mathus, he found himself in the Boneyard, where he was able to destroy the gravestone of the nihilistic personality and drive it from his mind. He has also contracted Lycanthropy from the Vilkacis. - 0 Deaths

Vincent Koilos (LG Human Undead Scourge Paladin of Iomedae) - Another original member of the group, Vincent has endured a great many trials and seen many friends fall. His brother was killed by vampires but has not yet had the opportunity to get his hands on any bloodsuckers yet. I have created an organization of Vampire Hunters called the Brotherhood of the Twelve who have been keeping an eye on Vincent and will contact him directly when he nears Caliphas. - 0 Deaths

Detective Inspector Bastargre Pierrot (CN Gnome Detective/Alchemist) - An original member of the group, Inspector Pierrot has been the source of knowledge and most observant of the group. During Book II's encounter with the juju zombies who had been experimented on with the black fluid, talks with the zombies broke down as the undead-hating members of the group attacked them while the others tried to parlay, and in the ensuing melee Pierrot was stabbed in the brain with one of the syringes and the black fluid was injected directly into his brain. The resulting necromantic fluid in his brain has been slowly changing his personality, interfering with his ability to feel remorse, turning him more towards cold logic. The dirty syringe was also contaminated with Mi-go spores, and now they have been gestating in his brain, providing him gradually with a connection to the alien beings in the form of a 'Dark Passenger' who has been slowly convincing him to do things he otherwise would not do. As we begin Book IV and he draws nearer to the Mi-go, he'll solidify his status as one of their sleeper agents, all while he frantically searches for some kind of alchemical cure to his condition. - 1 Death (via Auren Vrood's circle of death)

Talena Raducan (CG Half-Elf Inquisitor of Desna) - Talena's player is an original member of the party and was with the group through Book I but gave birth to a baby boy and has been absent on maternal leave since. We look forward to her return soon. Talena was the recipient of the dreams connecting her to the Whispering Way cult that one of our good folk here on the board came up with. - 0 Deaths

Cassandra Asheart (LG Tiefling Hospitaler Paladin of Sarenrae) - Born into a diabolist cult, she was rescued by the priests of Sarenrae who murdered her parents and raised her in the name of redeeming the wicked's spawn. She was originally written up as a Divine Hunter, but that proved to be too overwhelming and unbalanced the party (nobody got a chance to do anything as she was killing EVERYTHING in one full attack) and then switched to Hospitaler and has been very effective. She always tries to talk to the evil foes or intelligent undead to try and redeem them. - 0 Deaths

Aislin Feralon (CN Human Ranger) - Having traveled from Lastwall, Aislin has come to lend her hatred for and skill at killing undead to the party. She and her tiger animal companion have proven to be a boon.

Vjorgomir Bjystolin (NG Aasimar Oracle of Ancestors) - Vjorgomir met the party in Lepidstadt when he arrived for the funeral of his fallen cousin, Ymwodir. He has an extreme prejudice towards undead, which have slain many members of his family.

Xurodus (Gnome Wizard) - Crash-landed in Lepidstadt during an ornithopter voyage with gnomish inventor and literally falling into the encounter between Grine and the party, Xurodus has been with the group ever since, unable to leave this "god-forsaken country". He is currently in possession of the Pnakotic Manuscripts.

Former PCs still active:

Resa Hawthorn (NG Human Rogue) - An original member of the group, Resa was driven mad by a Ghastly Whispers haunt, which afflicted her with Multiple Personality Disorder. With her own personality, a Zon-Kuthon worshiper obsessed with torture and a self-preservation minded serial killer, she made it a point to seek out NPCs who had interacted with the party in the past and murder them, as well as draw up dissent and dislike towards the party among the citizens of Lepidstadt. When Cassandra and Vincent tried to apprehend her, she escaped and is currently at large. - 0 Deaths

Angus Ironhammer (LG Dwarf Fighter) - A brewer who came to Professor Lorrimor's funeral. He soon left to pursue his dreams of opening his own tavern, and eventually secured financial assistance from benefactors in Caliphas to open a new tavern and brewery there (player dropped group due to work schedule). - 0 deaths

Eliana Makhel (CG Catfolk Oracle of Life) - Attended Professor Lorrimor's funeral but soon found Ustalav's prejudices too much for her and returned to Varisia to assist with an outbreak of Mange among her people. - 0 Deaths

Waikuhido Oshiyabe (NG Kitsune Bard) - Attended Professor Lorrimor's Funeral but soon left due to feeling extreme guilt over thinking he summoned the stirges that terrorized the tavern in Ravengro by playing a musical number for the crowd. - 0 Deaths

Dr. Vykos (CG Human Alchemist) - A colleague of Professor Lorrimor, he attended his funeral and soon left to return to his studies. - 0 deaths

Fallen Characters:

Ysowir Caltril (NG Aasimar Cleric of Gozreh) - Slain during Book I by the Gray ooze when he ran into an unsearched room during the fight against the Splatter Man.

Ymwodir Vyspolin (NG Angelkin Aasimar Oracle of Ancestors) - Killed by Brother Swarm.

Wargen Gorlash (CN Half-Orc Druid) - Killed during the zombie outbreak in Ravengro. When everyone went to the Temple of Pharasma, Wargen adamantly ran off alone to the marketplace. He and his wolf companion were killed by a Zombie and had their brains eaten (player was removed from the group a few games after due to altercation with another player).

Thedren Brinetoes (Gnome sorcerer/cleric) - Killed by Brother Swarm.

Lisette Bardaeux (Human Wizard) - Killed by Brother Swarm.

We're starting "Broken Moon" in a couple of weeks (we normally play every fortnight, but there's been a couple of issues over the last few weeks).

The group, at the moment, is:

Izaark (LG half-orc male cavalier 4/oracle 3) - has a Kassendale destrier called "Orklii". Ultimate goal is to join the Knights of Ozem, but due to his half-orc ancestry, they have basically sent him on an impossible quest, hoping he'll get killed rather than be able to join up.

Yeva (NG human female rogue 1/ranger 6 (skirmisher)) - we've held off on Yeva's animal companion until "Broken Moon", as she wants to get a wolf and it's perfect to bring the wolf in during this adventure. Yeva actually grew up in Turtleback Ferry, and her father was killed during the events of the "Rise of the Runelords" adventure. She has made enemies among one of the Szcarni families, who have been dogging her the whole way thru the AP.

Skaarlia (LN dhampir (svetocher) female inquisitor (kinslayer) 6 / ranger (infiltrator) 1) - Skaarlia is the daughter of a famed vampire hunter who was raped by Vladimus, a vampire noble, nearly twenty years ago. More recently, Vladimus' sire, a vampiric black dragon called Autha-Bahor, murdered her mother and slaughtered all those at their estate. Skaarlia has sworn revenge on them both, and Vladimus has become a secondary BBEG in the campaign. The dragon from the final instalment has, of course, been replaced by Autha-Bahor. :)

Shadow Lodge

A friend of mine is GM'ing for the first time with this game and so far it has been nothing shy of excellent. Forewarned due to the nature of this game the only characters backstory I know inside & out is my own (Damen) and there are still secrets that we are figuring out about each other.

Damen Statlav (NG male Dhampir Gravewalker Witch 1): Former student of Professor Lorrimor and Kendra's previous love interest, Damen found himself on the run from an inquisition after they discovered his research into the undead and the mysteries of his birth. Learned of his former mentors death when he arrived at the funeral and offered to carry him to his final resting place.

Poe (NG male Tengu Sin Eater Inquisitor of Pharasma 1): a student of the lady of graves from Caliphas, Poe is a student of sin positing that sin like any other malady is but a disease of the mind that can be treated and cured if treated properly. His radical treatise on the nature of sin and mental illness garnered the attentions of one Petros Lorrimor whom offered to fund his research. They corresponded often in letters until Lorrimor's death when he was mysteriously invited to the funeral of his benefactor.

Tekla aka "Danger Woman" and her animal companion Moose T. Lid (CN? female half-orc Mad Dog Barbarian and Giant Weasel animal companion): A skald from the frozen north Tekla met Lorrimor as he laid dying in the snow. Hoping to make an easy score (and steal every copper the corpse had) she was surprised to find that her easy mark wasn't quite dead yet when she found him. Luckily he offered to reward Tekla handsomely should she lead him to safety and he be able to return home and with Tekla never being one to turn down easy money gladly obliged. Unfortunately she was less then amused when she got the news that Lorrimor had kicked the bucket without ever getting a chance to pay! So now she's in Ravengro, crashing funerals and bugging Kendra to pay her the cash her old man owed. Heh at least they have good booze and this mystery thing to occupy her. Meanwhile Moose digs up the flower gardens and brings wild game onto the back porch.

Siku (NG? female human Shapeshifter Witchguard ranger 1): a member of the Eurtaki tribes of the far north, Siku is here to help settle her former employers affairs and hopefully redeem herself for her dark past and the witch she didn't manage to protect at home.

Katrinka (N? female human Acrobat rogue 1): One of the youngest members of the team alongside Siku. Having met Lorrimor when she was but a young child Lorrimor saw her innate talent for the acrobatic arts and offered to fund her training at the various schools of contortion and circuses they found as she traveled the world at his side. During his and her downtime she even stayed in one of his spare bedrooms meeting and befriending Damen and Kendra in their youth and acting like a nosy little sister to their budding love affair. She soon found herself within a traveling circus sometime after Damen's departure to continue to perform his research. The time between her joining the circus and her return to Ravengro to attend her patrons funeral is still largely a mystery.

Because I expect the party composition to change more than a few times....

Starting this Saturday:

Tuco "the Rat", male CN dwarf Fighter 1
Bennie of the Hills, male N human Universalist Wizard 1
Skilus, NG male lizard man Life Oracle 1 (clouded vision curse)
"The Hobbit with No Name", CG male hobbit Ninja "burglar" 1
"The Gnome with No Name", male gnome Gunslinger 1, alignment YTBD

I anticipate that several characters will die in entertainingly hideous ways before the session is done. Added bonus: no set time frame of departure for the GM (me). Fortunately, Tuco's player should be able to quickly produce replacement inheritors of the Lorrimor estate.

Are they referred to as the characters with no name or have they just not thought of them yet?

The party composition where I play.

Devko Sabreev (LE), human (m) from Egorian, Cleric of Dispater (6)
Surlysilk (N), human (f) from Absalom, Mobile fighter (4) / Urban Barbarian (2)
Satinder (LN), half-elf (m) from Absalom, Monk (4) / Sorcerer (1) / Dragon Disciple (1)
Tanja (NG), human (f) from the Skull Clan, Barbarian (2) / Oracle of Life (4)
Bonebreaker (N), human (f) from the Skull Clan, Barbarian (2) / Oracle of Life (4)
Malaen (LN), human (m) from the border of the Worldwound, Vivisectionist (6)

The beginning was harsh because my Cleric had some difficulties with the two barbarian sisters. But now after the first book we are a team and until now (2/3 of the second book), none of us is dead.

Our group is halfway through The Trial. The party consists of:

Til Gamwich Male Halfling Rogue 6
Khetros Male Human Druid (Bat Shaman) 6
Erunir Golanadel Male Elf Wizard (Wood) 6
Divia Female Aasimar Cleric of Sarenrae 6

We've had some trouble with this AP, as we really don't have a tank or great melee fighters. Since most of our opponents have been undead up to this point, channeling has saved our bacon many a battles.

They have not named them yet. I suspect that the obit names will read Hobbit John Doe and Gnome John Doe...

That... is an interesting party. Let us know how things stand at the end of book 2, heh.

I expect party composition to quickly change within the first session barring betrayal by my own dice. ^_____^

I actually meant my post for FlashX. Your (Turin's) party is actually pretty solid. A fighter and a life oracle and a gunslinger should be able to do most of this adventure without even needing the other two. The ninja will probably die but that's no big loss.

Ah. Thought you were replying to Turin as well. Heh.

Yeah, we'll see how the rest of Book 2 goes. The GM has hinted that our PCs might think about hiring a hit point bag/meat shield. I've rolled up a dwarf "tank" fighter for hire, but I think our egos are preventing us from pulling the trigger. We are all veteran players and pride ourselves on playing smartly.

That being said, we've had two near TPKs. One against the "spider" at the beginning of Book 2 and one against a bunch of undead while investigating the third trial day (I'm trying not to spoil anything, but if you've played through book 2, I'm sure you know the fights I'm talking about).

Our next session is at Vorstag's.

I recently got one of our group GMs to read the first module, and he's now pretty set on running the AP. (Heh, heh, hee....)

I'm thinking a Dhampir Kinslayer Inquisitor (Pharasma, possibly?) would be a great fit for the campaign, but my potential GM is against Dhampirs because of the probable negative reaction from the locals in the first book when gaining Respect from the townsfolk is so important in the first part of the AP. Is this a valid concern, or is this something that can be worked around as the campaign progresses? I can see his point to a certain extent, but is it possible the Dhampir PC could take a less public role in the first module to avoid problems? I would really like to run the character concept if it's not going to be a game breaker.

(I've read some online CC campaign accounts up through the initial exploration of the prison, so I'm familiar with the first module up to that point. No detailed spoilers past that, please. ;D )

Actually thay work out pretty fantastically in this ap. Mechanically you get some great abilities (watch the bad guys gawk when their neg channel heals your inquisitor). Also most dhampir look human enough to pass by most standards with the worst that could be said is they are either sicklyor carry an unnatural beauty like that of the elves.

besides most people in the first adventure are mostly racist towards orcs or half orcs, on account of belkzen is just a hop, skip and a jump away. mostly they just keep to themselves and gossip or gawk about you behind your back (tho things can go south pretty quick)

This'll be my first official foray into Pathfinder and RPGs in general, so I'm looking forward to this campaign. I'll be GMing, and my group going into it will be:

Dalia, female gnome rogue (alignment TBD)
Grimm, male half-orc fighter CG
Grunyar, male dwarf cleric (alignment TBD)
Iandoli, female half-elf paladin LG

Not entirely sure what to expect out of them, all of us newbs, but it'll be fun finding out!

Just started running this for a few friends, scheduled every couple of Fridays. Upon telling them "Horror campaign, dealing with concepts of dread, loss, and terror"... they proceeded to make "Team Beat-Stuff-Up". Brilliant stuff, guys.

Chuck Steel - Human LG Monk
Cyrus Bearslayer - Half-Elf LG Inquistor
Felson "The Ram" Warpig - Human NG Fighter
Londo Quickblade - Human LG Samurai

Minimal spells. No trap-handling abilities. Just solving problems with fist, axe, or hammer. Their expedition to Harrowstone will be amazing.

If they are not all wormfood before the half-way point of Chapter 1, I'll be sorely disappointed.

Just started running this for a few friends, scheduled every couple of Fridays. Upon telling them "Horror campaign, dealing with concepts of dread, loss, and terror"... they proceeded to make "Team Beat-Stuff-Up". Brilliant stuff, guys.

Chuck Steel - Human LG Monk
Cyrus Bearslayer - Half-Elf LG Inquistor
Felson "The Ram" Warpig - Human NG Fighter
Londo Quickblade - Human LG Samurai

Minimal spells. No trap-handling abilities. Just solving problems with fist, axe, or hammer. Their expedition to Harrowstone will be amazing.

all I can picture is Bruce Campbell as Chuck Finley for Steel and Mocho Man Randy Savage for Warpig. I have to say I disturbingly approve.

They have not named them yet. I suspect that the obit names will read Hobbit John Doe and Gnome John Doe...

Two TPK's in the first session and they didn't even get into the frickin' ruined prison/asylum. We will see if they even want to do a second session. O.o

Currently, we have one Paladin Undead Scourge "Sir Burpsalot" and a Cleric bizarrely named Rogue (Heroism, Restoration), and a generic Wizard and Rogue.

Really good at research, this lot, and are set up to be really good at fighting undead (Cleric's got a DC17 for turn checks). The Rogue has a -2 Strength modifier though, so he kinda sucks. Really hoping we get some more players to replace the Wizard and Rogue.

Be fair - you advanced those two encounters above the expected for a first level party; even one with 5 players. This is based on what you posted in the obituaries.

Dark Archive

I've got

Shenzo, a Tian ninja
Raylin, a Ustalav Oracle
Meirin, a Ustalav Cleric of Pharasma
Anton, a Ustalav Magus (Bladebound)
Olivia, a summoner and her Eidolon Ruby

They've now taken it the defense of the beast of Lepidstadt now.

There was a bit of change so I'll "update" just because.

We lost Candice because her player is unfortunately too busy to keep playing.

However, we did gain a Vishkanya Paladin/Ranger (and a new player), and everybody hit level 7 because we finished book 2 (nobody died fighting the Promethean, though just barely).

I think the zombie version of the Professor managed to drop the Paladin through some crits, but everyone survived. Close call though.

Having only been playing for a few years, I decided to take a crack at GMing. Having fallen in love with the Carrion Crown AP, I decided to grab that as my first foray into GMing - and I'm loving it! Our group is small, having started out with 3 players, but are now down to 2. I created a character for myself to be a backup in case they need her, and when our third person left after Book 1, I slipped my character in to help out the ranks (Ie, take a lot of the hits and if you ask the others - fail all her saves). Despite how different the PCs are, they all get along rather well. You can see some of the antics in the "funniest moments" post.

Male Taldan Human LG Paladin 6/Cleric 2 of Sarenrae - (Undead Scourge and Warrior of the Holy Light archtypes). He came from Restov, Brevoy.

Male Dhampir N Sorcerer 8 - (Undead Bloodline). He came from Caliphas, Ustalav.

Female Half-Elf Bard - (I think she had an archtype but I can't remember). She came from Absalom, but was originally from Taldor. (PC left with Kendra to Caliphas when the player moved after Book 1).

Female Varisian Changeling CG Hedge Witch 5/Rogue 2/Harrower 1. She was from a wandering caravan in eastern Ustalav. (My character and instigator of all the Harrow Cards).

Hello again! I decided to update this as we are now working our way through Book 6. What a fun ride this has been - and I plan to take them beyond the AP using some of the book suggestions, and a few of my own.

The current line up is as follows:

Menasius - Male Aasimar LG Paladin 11/Cleric 3 of Sarenrae : Yes, this was the "human" from before. It took the poor kid until Book 5 to realize he wasn't human. They were in the Vampire underground and out of respect the Paladin didn't cast light like he always did. Then he remarked about how brightly lit the hallway was. The party had to explain to him that it was not lit, and that he could see in the dark.

Alaric - Male Dhampir NG Sorcerer 14 : Gets along extraordinarily well with the Paladin. Their prank war has since stopped, but they are constantly teasing the other and just generally keeping the other sane through the AP. He was the one to set the paladin up with his girlfriend, and the Sorc has proposed to the witch. He has only died once and that was to the haunt in Renchurch. Thankfully Kamira had a Raise Dead scroll and components for those "just in case" moments.

Kamira - Female Half-Elf CG Bard 9/Rogue 3/Duelist 2 : The player was able to rejoin us for Book 5 so I had Kamira accompany Kendra to Caliphas. It was here that she rejoined the party and has continued on with us into Virlych.

Zalura - Female Changeling CG Hedge Witch 8/Rogue 2/Harrower 4 : She has continued with the party despite having Kamira return. She has managed to die twice so far in the campaign, though the second death to a haunt in Renchurch was short lived thanks to determination on her armor. She is also prone to being possess/dominated/commanded etc. She can't seem to pass a Will Save to save her life. It's led to a lot of interesting events because of this. The party has decided that perhaps they should buy her some kind of mental protection item, particularly after casting slay living on the sorcerer. (Yes she failed two will saves in a row for that one).

Sara - Female Human Archeologist(Bard)/Duelist : She is the paladin's girlfriend from Book 2 and I wove her into the story. The party found her in Book 6 and she is currently adventuring with them.

Spoiler:
She is the unannounced daughter of Galdana, and I used her in place of him to make the whole ordeal more personal to the PCs.

Actually our party consist of

Cohan - CN male human barbarian 6 (invulnerable rager)
Marissa Tiffest - NG Female human Cleric of Pharasma 6
Nariel - NG Male Half-elf Fighter 6(polearm master)
Variel - CG Male Half-elf Figther 4/ Ranger 2

Billy - LN Male Human Gunslinger 6

Former Members

Draken Spellblade - CG Male Human Magus 3 (Taken by Dimensional Spider)
Fithc Baatory - NE Male Human Wizard 2 (Undead) (Flees Away due to incompatiblity with Thalia)

Currently, we have one Angelkin Aasimar Paladin Undead Scourge "Sir Burpsalot" and a standard aasimar Cleric (Heroism, Restoration), and a evoker shadowcaster Wizard sun elf, and a goblin Ranger (specialized in hunting undead and urban terrain).

Kate: NG Female Human Ranger/Rogue (Melee Striker - Two Weapon Fighter)
Y'lderick: LE Male Human Psionic Inquisitor (Buff/debuff - Melee Striker)

One of the most difficult groups to get on track. This is one of those groups that had to Survive until lvl 7 before things really started clicking.

Party Deaths:
(Not able to be raised)
Jaquiline: Female Halfling Oracle (Cornellius took over her visions after she died)
Dhashton: Male Human Cleric/Wizard/Mystic Theurge (Died horribly by a great Axe Critical x3 for max damage. Not good...)

Other Deaths but able to be brought back:
Cornellius - (After being brought back, he inherited Jaquiline's Visions, and took on the curse: Soulless: You possess no soul. A god has taken it as punishment for a misdeed you committed or as payment for a service the deity rendered. You cannot be raised from the dead or resurrected. You gain a +4 bonus to saving throws against necromancy spells and are immune to spells that affect the soul such as magic jar or soul bind.
Illona - Our love for the kindhearted witch made us pool our resources to get her raised. It was a great decision.
Kate - Having just been in the party for a few weeks, we all saw great potential in her, and her bravery and sacrifice compelled us to raise her as well as Illona. They both died in the battle with Auren Vrood in the city of Feldgrau.

About to start this later today.

Faust: LG Male Tiefling Cleric of Iomedae
Vin: NG Male Human Magus (Bladebound)
Urmsh: CG Male Half-Orc Barbarian (Invulnerable Rager)
Aerro: CG Female Dwarf Rogue (GM Run as we weren't able to get more than 3 players sadly)

Really excited but also...nervous? Half-orc AND a tiefling. Glad I'm using a heavily modified version of the trust system.

Grand Lodge

Starting this game saturday.

Bo: Male Dwarf Fighter armor spike/grappler (Brawler)
Stanach: Male Dwarf Inquisitor Final Rest Inquisition
Fortinacar: Male Varisian Sorc Protean Bloodline (ME)
and a fourth that is undecided but leaning to oracle or cleric

So we are starting the game on Friday we have

EKK a Gnome Haunted Oracle/Something/Something
Ulrich A human Fighter/Druid/Something
(they both have a great plan but I don't remember off the top of my head)
Snik a Ratfolk Orc/Draconic Cross blooded Sorcerer/ who is going wizard rest of the way
Morgrym Candlemaker an Assimar Zen Archer Quigon Monk
Cassimir Kinslayer a Dhampir Fighter/melee character

So quite a mixed up party it should be fun

I have just started DM-ing this AP for a 5-man group: my son, two of his friends, a friend of the family and his God-son. Group consists of:

  • Ebon - Human male summoner
  • Sixshot - Human female gunslinger
  • Krieg - Human male barbarian
  • Ivan - Assimar male cleric of Pharasma
  • Draven - half-orc male fighter

Some people changed their races to Human after being forewarned about the initial suspicions in Ravengro. It was not my intent to force the change, but they decided to change, rather than deal with the extra burden. The two others? Well, after one session I haven't really focused on their race as a factor, but with the town on edge from weird happenings the whole party will get blamed as either culprits or causes, and the half-orc will be cast in the worst light, along with any that associate with him. He better put his big-boy pants on, and learn to deal with it. Class-wise, the summoner has not summoned his eidolon in town yet, though he has made creepy comments like the Whispering Way cult sounding like "His kind of people".

There is only one adult who I'd consider an experienced gamer. My son and his friends seem to approach role-play from a Battlefield / Gears of War / Call of Duty style, and are more "YOLO Hashtag SWAG!". Times past when I'd introduced them to tabletop role-play we've had to rewind a scenario or two, as when they approach the gates of a fort they thought it funny to say "HAIL the Enemy!"...right up until they captured and thrown into holding cells. In this game so far there is a lot of "I do what I want" silliness and if it keeps up the good people of Ravengro will start sharpening their pitchforks and re-soaking their torches.

Next session is in 10 days, and though only 3 days have passed in town, the cleric is already wanting to go to the prison. My DM style is often as a player advocate, so I don't want to either kill the party with encounters they aren't ready for, or make those areas like CandyLand. Perhaps events in town will require more of their attention, or some other side quest will pull them back from the prison until they level once.
