Just to be clear using the 2nd line as an example if you are 25 to 50 feet apart you the concealment is 35%, and there is a +4 cover bonus to AC.

PS:I also had not accounted for 55 feet so the last line is not 55+feet.

Today we have a most interesting match. A man whose magical prowess seems to be endless, we have the maestro of magic, Orion. His opponent has travelled to all part of the multiverse, inflicting pain and harm at will. Today one of them will have their long and illustrious lives come to an end.


I did not put trees on the map but they are there. If you both fly above 30 feet then the cover and concealment no longer applies.

I thought we were fighting in an arena of Fire? And which Knowledge Check is should I roll? I will do my buffing after making the Knowledge check.

No it is not an arena of fire, but it is intense heat which is fire damage.

My questions, should I gain any info:
1.) Does the Void Oni have some form of Spell Casting?
2.) Is the Void Oni immune to Mind-Effecting spells?
3.) Any elemental resistances/immunities I should know about?


That gets you 4 pieces of information. Normally I don't let the player choose, but I guess one question won't hurt

He is not immune to mind affects
He is immune to cold--I was going to tell you that anyway. :)
He can drain levels.
He can use teleportation based effects as a free action, and simultaneously become incorporeal.

Cast Time Stop

Well, that's not good. I cast Greater Invisibility and Mind Blank, making a stealth check.

Round 1

Orion activates his cloak and takes off into the air, continually being stealthy.

Stealth Check: 1d20 + 49 ⇒ (13) + 49 = 62

Fly to 25 ft straight up.

Fire Damage: 2d6 ⇒ (4, 1) = 5

Nonlethal: 1d6 ⇒ 2

Fort Save: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (14) + 15 = 29


You see the Oni disappear and reappear 35 feet above its current location, but it is shadowy in form. This seems to be the incorporeal form you heard of.

Where it once stood about slightly above the ground is a black ball about 3 feet in diameter.

Round 2

Waving his hands like he just doesn't care, Orion casts Time Stop.

Time Stop Duration: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

Round 1 of the Time stop, I draw the Tetsubo from my Haversack and use a charge off my Ring of Three Wishes to cast Undead Anatomy IV, only as a Ghost of a Fire Oni. I (and all the equipment I hold) becomes incorporeal (I believe my other equipment would merge with the new form, but my Tetsubo would size up. I may be incorrect there, however). Round 2 of the Time Stop is spent casting Dimensional Lock, using a second Wish off the Ring of Three Wishes. The third round of the Time Stop is spent readying to cast another Time Stop when this Time Stop ends.

Spell Resistance for Dimensional Lock (if any): 1d20 + 26 ⇒ (11) + 26 = 37

Time Stop Duration: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

Round 1 of this next Time Stop is spent casting Fly, and move closer to the Void Oni.

Round 2 is spent casting Spell Perfected (Persistant) Piercing Heightened (1 level) Mind Fog. This is centered at 40 ft elevation at O7. For my move action, I finish flying up to, ending my flight so I am adjacent to the Void Oni, elevation at 40 ft. Round 3 is spent readying to cast a Heightened to 6th Level, Persistant Piercing Hold Monster against the Void Oni when the Time Stop ends.

Spell Resistance for Mind Fog (if any, Oni's is 10 less): 1d20 + 30 ⇒ (17) + 30 = 47

Spell Resistance on Hold Monster (if Any, Oni's is 5 less): 1d20 + 26 ⇒ (1) + 26 = 27

Saving Throws for the Oni:

Saving Throw DC for Mind Fog: 37. Roll twice, take the lowest.
Saving Throw DC for Hold Monster: 31. Roll Twice, take the lowest.

Stealth Check when casting Hold Monster: 1d20 + 49 ⇒ (15) + 49 = 64


50% chance of not affecting the Oni:1d100 ⇒ 45
Low means it has to save. 1-15
High means it does not. 51-100

The hold monster did not bypass SR.

Have I been allowing you to stealth while casting attack(directly target opponents or that are area of affects) spells? If so I won't change it for this fight, but I should not have because you can't attack while stealthing.

I made this post already about 3 hours ago.

I made a 40 on one will save, but I only got a 36 for the other one vs mind fog, and it will be active for 7 rounds, then I get my normal will save back.

The hold monster spell did not bypass SR

I then used a standard action to cast defensively, but you were not in the area of affect since the monster guessed in correctly. It then used a swift action SLA to teleport to the other side of the field.

I am also assuming it can only create one of those little black balls at a time. Otherwise it would be harder than a CR 20 challenge.

Keep in mind he can't teleport in the mind fog, cause of the Dimensional Lock. There isn't a saving throw on it. As far as the stealth casting attack spells while stealthing, I did it a lot in the previous two battles.


The stealth-attack was an error on my part for not catching it sooner.

I also forgot about the dimenional lock. I also forgot to make a spellcaft check. Well I will say he the tried to teleport, and failed. Then he flew over there.

knowledge arcana:auto pass I only need to roll a one.

I guess you get an attack of opportunity. :)

I do not take an AoO.

Orion turns, casting another Heightened Persisted Piercing Hold Monster on the Void Oni, then moving to be adjacent against the Void Oni.

Stealth Check: 1d20 + 49 ⇒ (7) + 49 = 56

Spell Resistance Check (Void Oni's Spell Resistance is 5 lower for this spell): 1d20 + 26 ⇒ (17) + 26 = 43

Hold Monster DC: 33. Roll Twice, Take the Lowest

The Fire Oni that is Orion takes his Tetsubo in both hands, and swings with all his might.

LOL, and a nat 1 to boot. I can't believe I rolled a monster with regen that needs fire to stop it, while ending up in a fire based environment. For a CR 20 monster he also had crappy saves. My only hope was to get you close to that sphere, but I could not think of a way to lure you in.
