Detect Evil and Good Intentions

I'm trying to figure out if I understand how this works correctly (now that I have a paladin in the game I run).

If you are evil or have the aura ability and worship an evil diety then you give off an evil aura if looked at with detect evil.

If you are evil but at the current time your intentions are GOOD then you would show up as a good aura.

I guess my confusion is how you'd give off only a good aura even if you are evil. Was this clarified anywhere that I can reference for my players?

Since detect evil will not detect good auras or intentions (or anything else but evil), you will still ping evil for, well, being evil.
The fact that detect good might also ping on you for your good intentions at the times has nothing to do with it.

Effectively, you'll ping 'true' for both detect spells at the same time. No one ever said you could only have one aura at the same time.

Gotcha. Just wanted to make sure I had this right when we play.

Scarab Sages

You only detect if you are the appropriate level as per the spell description. Level 1-4 humanoids (who are not clerics or paladins) don't show up on detect spells at all. Clerics and Paladins ping off their deities alignment.
