Determining the number of feats I can use for level 1 elf cleric...

I'm attempting to join my first campaign ever with my brother and cousin, My character is an elf cleric with 14 int. I'm really confused about ALOT of this, but if I don't find this soon, I'm never going to get to start.. Could someone tell me how to find my starting number of feats?

Anakin: your Elf Cleric has 1 feat at first level.

All PCs gain one feat every odd level (Core Rulebook p30).

Certain races gain an extra feat.

Certain classes gain extra feats.

Elves gain extra weapon proficiencies but no extra feats.
Clerics with certain domains gain specific bonus feats but on the whole do not gain any extra feats.

Most campaigns also allow two traits, which together equate to one feat. If you're playing Core rulebook only, possibly not. However, if everyone in the campaign agrees, you can use traits from here. For an elf cleric and given that you are a new player, I would recommend Reactionary (for a boost to initiative) or Deft Dodger (for a +1 to Reflex saves), Focused Mind (+2 to all concentration checks, e.g. for casting in melee or when suffering ongoing damage, which a cleric doing healing might well need), or Eyes and Ears of the City (gives Perception as a class skill, which clerics normally do not get, and which is extremely important!)

Gauss is correct. An Elf Cleric at level one will have 1 feat. Hope you enjoy your campaign. Welcome to Pathfinder. Hope your path finds you.

Baha-who is correct as well Though talk to your Game Master as they might have a trait list for you to use.

The number of feats you receive are determined by your character level. See Character Advancement in the PRD or the Core Rulebook for the chart. The basic rule is hat you get one feat at every odd level (1,3,5, etc.).

Some classes also give bonus feats, depending on you level in that class.

Some races also give a bonus feat, which you consequently get at level 1.

Neither clerics nor elves get bonus feats, so you just have the normal feat from being 1st level.

Thanks for all the help guys! A little more, my cleric is of the deity Cayden Cailean, does that change anything? I've also placed my spells that I get from her as these: (please tell me if anything looks off)

protection from evil
protection from law
charm person
enlarge person
longstrinder

Also the campaign we're playing is Jade Regent Adventure Path.

Clerics can change their spells on a daily basis, just so you know. Which domains did you take? You get a bonus spell, which must be a domain spell, from those, too.

No. No deities give out extra feats.

Cayden Cailean is not a she...

Clerics at first level can cast 1 spell plus bonus spells due to high Wisdom stats. You listed your intelligence as being a 14 which really doesn't help any of your class abilities (it does give you more skill points and higher knowledge checks though). You have three spells listed as such: Protection from Evil, Protection from Law, and charm person. To have all three of those prepared at first level you would need a wisdom of 20. If you do not have a wisdom of 20 then you cannot have all three spells prepared.

Also, as was pointed out above, Clerics have acccess to all spells of their given level and can swap them out daily.

Domain spells
You have Enlarge Person and Longstrider listed. This seems to indicate that you chose the Strength and Travel domains. You can only cast one of those spells per day, not both (I house rule it otherwise and allow my clerics the ability to prepare both of their domain spells given at each spell level per day).

Being a follower of Cayden also would give you access to weapon proficiency with the Rapier (a cleric is always proficient with their diety's favored weapon) but being an elf already grants you that bonus.

First, welcome to Pathfinder! It may be a bit confusing at first, but once you know what you're doing (and even before then) the game becomes a lot of fun.

Second, these guys are all correct.

Have fun in Jade Regent!

LazarX:
Darkness Domain (Zon-Kuthon) grants Blind-Fight as a bonus feat
Nobility Domain (Abadar) grants Leadership as a bonus feat (8th level)
Rune Domain (Irori, Nethys) grants Scribe Scroll as a bonus feat

So yes, 4 gods do grant bonus feats if you take certain domains.

Okay, so for feats, I get my class feats, my chosen 1 feat, and the feats from my domain(any that my deity is in)? Then spells, I can have any level one spells, but I have to choose one once a day, and if I use it, it's gone until I replenish it the next day?

Sorry for all the questions.. The book has been hard for me to follow. BTW I have played one quest with my cousin using the pre-made classes with minor history mods.

The spell I have for the day will be kept in the spell page right?

Silver Crusade

I think you are confusing feats with class abilities.

You get one feat as an elf at first level. Choose this from the "Feat Chapter" of the core rulebook or from here: http://www.d20pfsrd.com/feats

You also get the domain powers you choose. You pick two domains from the list of domains that your god has: http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/core-classes/cleric/domains

You also get the class abilities of the cleric. These will be the same for all clerics: Aura, channel energy 1d6, spells, spontaneous casting.

It is important to recognize the names of each kind of thing. For instance, only feats are feats. Abilities are abilities. Domaain powers are domain powers. You can't mix them up.

Also you can memorize one domain spell and then one other spell at level one. If you have a high enough wisdom you might get to memorize one or more "bonus spells."

And yes, you memorize a spell, cast it, and it is gone for the day. For the most part.

You choose 2 domains each domain has domain powers you gain domain powers at the listed levels under the domain, you gain 1 feat from your level, and you gain 1+1 spell slots where the +1 is your domain slot. You gain bonus spells based on WIS from the chart that states your ability MOD in the ability scores section. Also If I remember right your 2 domains must be domains from your deity's domain list.

If you tell us turn WIS I'm sure someone will tell you how many total spells you have.

Also you might try using this website. It works fairly well for the Core Rulebook content.

wisdom :16

You will have a total of 2+1 1st level spells. And 3 orisons(0 level spells).

A sheet that might help you is the Cleric spell sheet from these sheets.

In the end best of luck to you.

Edit: fixed the link

Silver Crusade

So from this page:http://www.d20pfsrd.com/basics-ability-scores/ability-scores

we can see that with a wisdom of 16, you get one bonus 1st level spell. So that means, at level one, you can memorize a total of two spells from the cleric list, plus one of your two domain spells (which are listed under the domains).

Also, when you hit third level, you will get one additional second level spell. And when you hit fifth level, you will get one additional third level spell. But you don't have to worry about those yet.

It would be better to call them "class features" rather than "class abilities".

Annakin, some class features are identical to certain feats, like weapon and armor proficiencies.

Those are designated feats. No diety grants an extra "choose whatever feat you want." at first level which was the actual question of getting an extra feat for a level 1 cleric.

LazarX:
That isnt what you said the first time around.

LazarX wrote:

Those are indeed extra feats and they are indeed granted by the gods by choosing those domains. Are they extra feats where you get to choose whatever feat you want? No. But they are extra.

If we quibble over the definition of 'extra' or 'bonus' feat then that way lies madness. If you wanted to limit your statement to a subset of extra feats you need to indicate that in your statement.

- Gauss

Anakin, if you post your build here. I'm sure we can check it over for you.
