Hi NoboysHome, just dropping by to let you know that i just finished reading the whole campaign for the second time (what? i liked it, it's not like i have something more important to do...) and i really had to make my sincere compliments for the amount of work, commitment and consistency that you and your players put in the story. Your world and NPCs feel so real and consistent, and your players are one of the most committed roleplayer i've ever known/seen/read about.
I'm actually GMing RotRL for a group of new players and it couldn't be more different (if my players are ever going to reach Karzoug he is probably going to ask them lessons about greed); but your journal has helped me a lot, even if you set a standard that i can't see me or my players reach any time soon.
Btw, i can guarantee that there are many more people lurking and reading your posts that you think, and it's been a while... soooo, no worries, no hurry, but we kinda know where you live, so whenever you feel like getting back to writing would be cool for us...

Just to let you know ours is still going, the party is lvl 11 now and approaching the Storval stairs.
I had fleshed out a bunch of villages and towns with their main occupants that the might pass through tracking the giants but of course they simply Teleported from Sandpoint to Turtleback Ferry and then hired a row boat up the river. Mokmurian is probably going to still be in his pyjamas when they reach him.
Just mentioning as your campaign is still paying dividends for great ideas and foreshadowing how things may play out.
Cheers!

Just finished reading this, and I wanted to let you know how much I appreciate all of the time & effort you (and your players) have put into making this journal so complete and so damn fun to read. I'm GMing (after a 25+ year hiatus) ROTRL for my wife and kids and one of their friends now - we're about halfway through book 2 - and while my players' party is *very* different from yours, it is very helpful to see how you ran your campaign and your players dealt with the challenges. I know how hard it is to get my own notes converted into a detailed campaign journal when I'm just writing for myself; I can't imagine how you were able to get all this done while holding down a job and gaming as much as it looks like you do. Congratulations on a job well done.

Aw, thanks! Yeah, it was a huge amount of work -- you'll notice I'm not doing journals for the more recent campaigns. A combination of the kids having homework, Rift, and having to prep multiple games just ate up all available writing time.
The final notes for both this campaign and my Wrath of the Righteous campaign stare balefully at me from my "To Do" box, but I doubt they'll see more than that before retirement... :-P

I know what you mean. There have been times when I feel like I spend more time on the kids' homework than I ever did on my own...

Oh, I can absolutely confirm that one. My parents had a very strict, "Once you're done with dinner, 7-8 pm is homework time."
Yes. I spent one hour doing homework a night. That's it.
And yet I survived high school, went on to college, and got a Ph.D.
So what's up with the whole, "Your middle-school-aged child should be spending 2-3 hours per night on homework."
Do they really think that's helping them appreciate school more?

The strangest part is that I feel like my daughter's large, public high school does a better job managing the homework load than my son's small, normally very responsive, private middle school.

I just recently finished reading this journal for the second time and, like last time, it has inspired me. Unfortunately, I cannot do the first thing it inspired me to do (run my own RotL campaign), because for some reason the group I currently GM likes my homebrew campaigns too much to want to play anything written by someone competent. I think I can do the other thing, though.
Because if any campaign log ever deserved a TvTropes page, this one does.

Kinda late checking back, but I have to say I'm surprised you didn't take the week after Christmas off. But maybe that's only a thing in public-sector academic work.
I *did* take the week off, but there's this whole, "Rebuilding and insulating the garage for Impus Major before the temperatures drop into the 20's" that takes precedence. It was a LOOOOONG week...
And I'm not public sector. I work for a global megacorporation in tech.

Yeah! Finally got caught up! Waiting for the last 3(?) sessions.
Please DON'T have any regrets for the Absalom tour -- it was awesome.
Also read the (mostly yours) journal of Second Darkness. Too bad it wasn't possible to keep that going, although I do have to say that most of the group there seemed a lot more into . . . um . . . Death Vagrancy . . . .
A shout-out for enabling (and to Rael'Shaleth's player for playing) a concept more than somewhat related to one I have been wanting to run whenever I can get life to cut me enough of a break to get into a PbP. Unfortunately, an awful lot of people seem to be less accepting than Mikaze (by the way, anyone know what happened to him?) . . . .

And I just finished reading this for the second time to get reminders and whatnot for Aiymi's solo-ish RotRL campaign. She's the only player, but there's 5 characters. She's asked me to create and GMPC 2 of them. Running 3 characters faithfully seems to be her limit.
I can't remember the names, but she has a glaive wielding aasimar paladin of Shelyn, a conjuration/teleportation spec wizard, a skinwalker wolf shaman druid, and I'm running the twin brother-sister of a LN male human monk (many styles - ascetic and crane)/staff magus and the CN female rogue/staff and card caster magus.

Any decision made on this?
Shiro is the deciding factor, and he wanted to finish running his homebrew campaign first (I think we're just finishing Book 4 through December and early January), and then I'll be running Shattered Star for Shiro, GothBard, Lara Croft Guy, and hopefully Hi, but he hasn't been willing to commit to ANY game since the WotR fiasco. Stupid WotR. Ruined more groups...
In other words, a decision has been made, but I won't be running until at least March or April.

However, for those of you who DON'T like "epic" campaigns, the kids have started.

late to the party, very, very late but just wanted to add my praise for a well written and fun journal. Like most I will lift ideas for my own solo play and story I am writing but wanted to say thank for providing so much great content and story.
Your party sound awesome and i will definitely be reading the rest of the journals as I get to those AP.
Hope your are all well and enjoying great games and great food together still

Thanks!
The other one you might want to check out is Trig's Journal. It's a first-person account through Shiro's homebrew campaign, but it was a blast to write.
