Greeting everyone,

I'm back from PaizoCon. Great con!

But I can now officially announce that Jason Bulmahn will be freelancing for Fire Mountain Games on Book Five and Book Six of "Way of the Wicked", Pathfinder's only evil adventure path.

Books One, Two and Three are already available for sale here on Paizo.Com and on DriveThruRPG.

Why wait any longer?

It's the perfect time to be wicked.

Gary,
I bought all three last week in paper and I am really impressed by the books so far. I have not read that much in them yet, but scanning through them they are beautiful. I just wanted to add on to the praises for this series.

Wow that is honestly pretty impressive to get him to freelance for you considering all the work we know he does at Paizo as the lead designer of the RPG.

Liberty's Edge

Yeah ... I'm actually kinda really shocked ... I didn't think he (or any of the Paizo full time staff) did any freelancing for 3PPs

I heard the payment was quite epic indeed. Something along the lines of 10 scotch bottles?

Dreamscarred Press

Wow!

Congratulations, Gary!

Dark Archive

That may be the biggest surprise to come out of Paizocon for me. I was already intrigued by the AP, now I'm in full-on anticipation mode!

Very cool, indeed!

Curious (as I'm sure most are) as to what he'll actually be contributing. Adventure content? Supplementary articles?

He was dead serious, too. Posted a photo of the received compensation laid out on the desk of his hotel room. Ten bottles.

This post cannot convey the running around my apartment and cheering that I'm doing right now.

The rumors are true. Jason Bulmahn was paid in fine whiskey hand selected by our on-staff whiskey expert (i.e. me). He received nine bottles of single malt scotch representing a nation-wide exploration of the ancient Scottish art. And one American artisanal whiskey that makes for a delicious contrast.

As for his contribution, we'll be releasing more details in coming weeks as we near publication. Suffice to say that he is writing supplemental material rather than contributing to the main plot arc.

Excited to hear this. Very cool to see Jason's involvement, and am really looking forward to what he brings to the table. At the same time, I'm happy to hear that, plot-wise, it is still utterly your vision. One of my favorite aspects of this AP is the strong continuity that comes from having a single author throughout.

Congrats! Two things:

a) Now can people stop thinking stuff from 3pp is somehow not as good as "core" stuff please? This should demonstrate that there really is no specific line dividing the 3pp and the uhh non-3pp here. There is only good and bad, and both Paizo and 3pp are capable of producing both. GMs should feel free to check out so much of the cool 3pp stuff out there because you can add so much coolness to your campaign by doing so. Ok, enough of my usual rant.

b) Gary - Sorry I didn't take you up on your offer. It was exceptionally appealing but I had to drive 30 mins back to where I was staying north of Redmond and imbibing that much liquid refreshments that late in the evening would have destroyed any such notion. I hope we get a chance to talk in the future, either at con's or otherwise. You guys are doing amazing stuff.

I am happy to be a contributor to such a great work of Evil. While the payment was certainly nice and right up my alley, I took up this project because of the concept. I don't get a chance to write evil too often these days.

(As a quick PS to this particular post, since I do not want to derail the thread. 3pp material is great. As with all material, you should decide on your own, as GM, what does and what does not belong in your game based on its quality and the needs of your campaign, regardless of who printed it. Just sayin...)

Awesomesauce! No one better than Mr Bulmahn for spreading the wicked!

You know, if one day I run an Evil campaign, I will toss something like the necromantic affinity feat/Negative Energy Affinity trait for free, so the Evil Cleric can heal the party more easily.

A guide on how to Role-Play each Alignments (and Paladins, Jameas Jacobs always complain that people have trouble with this class; RAW vs RAIntended vs RAInterpreted)?

Scarab Sages

Yet another example of how spectacularly cool everyone who works for Paizo is.
And I mean EVERYONE. There's a reason Lisa's so proud of the people she works with.
Just sayin'.

Wow, major scoop Gary! That's pretty damn awesome. I'm hoping I may be able to start actually running WotW soon instead of just playing in a play-by-post :)

I was going to chime in to congratulate Gary and the FMG crew, but really, given how awesome Way of the Wicked is, I think that Jason is the one who should be congratulated that he gets to be a part of it.

Congratulations Jason!

Hell yeah - Way of teh Wicked and Jason Bulmahn? It doesn't get much better!

Everyone,

Thanks for all the positive feedback and the encouragement and thanks for continuing to spread the word about "Way of the Wicked". We couldn't keep doing it without you.

John,

No worries. I had a great but very busy PaizoCon and I didn't get to chat enough with everyone I wanted to. I would love to sit down and chat more some time.

Jason,

Thanks for bringing the awesome.

More announcements about this later and as we near publication, I'll be sure to post some previews.

Question for you Gary. I know the con pushed you back two weeks, but with the extra freelancing, does this mean that the last two books will be back on its original timeline for distribution, or is this added help for something else?

Correct, you are. I hope with this bit of freelancing to be able to push production back on schedule for Book Five.

I still aim to be done by Halloween with "Way of the Wicked".

But if there are any changes, rest assured we'll post them here and on our facebook page.

Make an Evil AP (with one or more Campaign Setting and Player Companion book(s) that go with it)?

Another outlet for Jason's inner child, who is in fact, an unapologetic sadist.

Speaking as a parent I can tell you that some one year olds are in fact just that.

Congrats!! Way of the Wicked is a great AP, can't wait for the next three books!

Whoo hoo. I guessed right. Do I gets a cookie? :D

I'm hoping to see the final book arrive around Halloween as well. That'd be the perfect way to finish the game. Too bad it's on a Wednesday this year. It'd have made it all the more spooky.

Book 4 still coming out next week?

Yes, but since this is a evil AP the cookie is full of broken glass baked right in. :)

Excellent. That means it's got less carbs.

Gary,

Having you as GM for your Minion Quest game at PazioCon was totally wicked fun! But, the highlight of my con was you inviting myself, my son, Adam, and our hometown GM, Brice, to your scotch tasting in your room Friday night.

Although you couldn't open Jason's payment, the 15 bottles you provided were more than enough for you to school us on the fine art of Scottish whisky. I learned more about scotch in those two hours than my previous 60 years. If scotch is your secret weapon than it's fine edge is honed by your keen knowledge of the subject. Can't wait for book #4!

Many hearty congratulations to all concerned. I am eagerly looking forward to the next three books.

Dave,

I had a great time at Paizocon and though I would say Saturday night was better from a party perspective (it shut down at a mere 4 am), I would have to say I got more personal pleasure out of Friday night. It was less hectic and there was more time to simply enjoy the whiskey.

Regardless, I am overwhelmed by such compliments. We will definitely have to do it again next year.

Thanks for your support and the kind words,
Gary McBride
