This is a new thread, to discuss the character Ameiko Kaijitsu. Also on topic:
1) How the npc has interacted with parties and been portrayed?
2) Problems and big events involving the character (ADD SPOILERS).
3) Criticisms and if something felt off.
4) Is she a Mary Sue? What else fits?
A re-hash of an old thread now with less inflammatory accusations. What is dead may never die.

This thread has two fairly large remaining problems.
One, Ameiko is a great NPC in the hands of a DM who prepares her properly, and she could certainly be a bad NPC in the hands of a DM who uses her as a DMPC and steals the limelight from the PC's. Thus 'Ameiko' can mean different things for different people. We could argue all day about Ameiko, but since everyone's version is different this would be pointless.
Two, the term 'Mary Sue' means different things to different people. As tvtropes essentially admits. This isn't the forum for hashing out what "Mary Sue" means.
I'm still recommending that this thread be closed.

Since is there a lot to discuss, why close it?
What do you have against discussion of a fictional character, hmm?

Did you ask if you could do that Liz? No you didn't.
Wow. I've put what this thread is about, criticism and her as a possible Mary Sue is also a part of it, but not everything.
Back off if you would be so kind and stop the word-police act.
It has now been edited anew.
Wow.
Liz doesn't have to ask permission to change things to make them less antagonistic/more constructive here in the pursuit of keeping these boards a nicer and friendlier place.
Your sense of entitlement is pretty offputting, in fact. It might be worth remembering that these boards, while public, are not a free-for-all. People who post here are guests of Paizo.com, and are also representing the paizo.com community.
If someone came to a party at your house and started acting like a jerk, you'd be in your rights to ask them to clean up their act. If you're interested in continuing to post here, please respect the boards, your fellow posters, and above all else the decisions of the boards' moderators (aka the Paizo staff).

The thing I noticed with Joana in the other late thread;
she was real real mad at Ameiko and the....other "possible Mary Sue" in Skull and Shackles.
I'm not making light of her feelings or anything, merely noting that THAT sort of intense emotional.....involvement in the story is golden. I don't think anybody who fought ole' Demogorgon in Savage Tide hated ole Monkeyhead that much.
There's gold there. I can taste it. If you can figure out how to tap that vein somehow, man,.........that's the best. It bums me out that instead it looked like she was bailing on the whole scene, because that sort of thing is priceless.
Off the top of my head,......if you could take a "Mary Sue" and make her a conniving, two faced backstabber,.......that everybody in the group would swoon over but one character that really saw through all her wiles,.....now that would be sweet, and would prolly give a vent for all that most excellent fury that was invoked......when the endgame went down and the conniver had to have the final bossfight or whatever.

She doesn't have to.
By merely being done by her, the action and the retitling achieve perfection.
I don't mean to be jacking with nobody; I was kinda building up to that last post there; it was bouncing around in my mind for the last day or so, and I was just saying goofy stuff while I tried to figure out what I wanted to say.

Could we just kill this thread? If people want to talk about the NPC's, please let's do it constructively. I think that the NPC's are definitely a potential issue with this AP, but when handled right they're the heart of what makes the Jade Regent great. I think that someone has compared the Jade Regent to Star Trek or Firefly, the NPCs round out an ensemble cast and provide this awesome home for the PCs. Star Trek is actually a really good analogy, Spock and Kirk are the 'PCs' in that show, and they often bring along one or two of the more shipbound NPC's. The show is really about the adventures of Kirk and Spock, but it wouldn't be nearly as fun without Uhura, Scotty, Bones or Sulu. In order to provide a place for people to talk about how they dealt with the NPCs in this AP, I've started this thread.

Hudak who is stuck in the friends zone. A pc in love with an npc who only views him as a friend. Good times leading up to more intersting future plot twists. Romance is a good element in livening up characters, haven't seen much of it used in game. Haiku on, Hudak-san. I look forward to reading some of them.

Man, I love how Yukio Mishima et al had their panties in a wad about western influences totally jacking up Japan......and then they take western type stuff and totally do whatever the hell they want to it. It's beautiful.

At least 3.5 Loyalist come as a self-aware guy, in his profile, he gave himself an 8 in CHA.
Don't do that.
Please don't insult other posters.
Guys, really. Don't do that. Gee, I can't imagine why the poor bloke is acting hostile...
Skimming this thread, nobodies actually posted anything about Ameiko (and the rest of the caravan) in their games. How do you characterize her? What does she sound like? Have any stories for us? Speaking as someone who doesn't run Jade Reagent, I'd love to hear some. There are a couple of threads opening up on the topic, so evidently people still want to discuss it. (Like, three.) Let's find one and try not to shit it up too much. :P

Good point spanky. The suspicion of the west by the east can be someonewhat overpoweringly paranoid. Allowing their respective cultures to mix and trade ideas works out alot better. Each side can learn alot from the others.
Twigs, I too would like to hear some stories of the jade regent campaign. Many memorable tales and situations can occur. Most of them amusing and fun one way or the other. I've seen quite afew in crimson throne, rise of the runelords and kingmaker. Especially the kingmaker one, when it was run by a DM who broke so many rules and pitted the party against an opponent they couldn't affect. That part wasn't so fun. Then proceeded to raise the xp required to level so the party wouldn't. Now I''m side tracking from the topic. Anyway, I'm all ears. Tales, myths, anyone?

Since we got another new thread about Ameiko ( and the other NPC's it seems ) which was not started on such a hostile note, why don't we post there, with Haikus and all? This one feels tainted.

Either I'm missing something or I see nothing wrong with the OP.
I mean, can't we just discuss Ameiko like we discuss other stuff, like apparently people being badwrong for using a high point-buy, or rolling their stats instead of using 15-point buy, or wanting odder races to be accepted or having some non-evil monsters for a change? I mean, come on...
