Dallas, TX, (June 7th 2012) – FROG GOD GAMES, the makers of roleplaying games and books, today announced that they are acquiring Necromancer Games, the award-winning publishing house known for Necropolis, Rappan Athuk, City of Brass, Tomb of Abysthor, Crucible of Freya, Tome of Horrors, and many other famous titles
Wow!
They will provide updates of their old products to boot.

I really have to say, despite the onrush of requests for updated versions of [insert Necromancer Games product here] that I'm sure this announcement is sure to fuel, I do hope that FGG keeps their emphasis on NEW products, and does updates to old NG stuff sparingly. What'd I'd really like to see more than updated versions of NG products is the expansion of the shared setting, into a full campaign setting (something that seems very likely based on previous comments, and may be one of the main factors behind the aquisition).
Maybe I'm just spoiled by the fact that the one NG product I really wanted to see done for S&W is currently being written...along with a massive quantity of bonus swag.

As someone who didn't find out about NG until late in the 3.5 cycle (I was insulated by a homebrew GM and limited game time), this sounds awesome.

Me too. That's the one I want most, since I never quite managed to get a 3.5 copy. That said, I'm excited for the rest as well!
If you want a 3.5 copy, we have some in stock...
That being said, I'm glad this news finally hit the streets. :D

I really really really REALLY want that big bad boxed set of City of Brass updated to Pathfinder. Especially since Paizo was cool enough to make it semi-canon in Golarion.
Gorbacz, I'm totally with you on this. CoB might be the single best high level gaming mini campaign that I own, with the possible exception of the 1st edition Queen of the Spiders mega adventure. Here's my only hesitation about getting CoB updated to PF too quickly: I think that Paizo is gonna do level 21+ gaming rules soon, and I'd really rather see the Sultan of the Efreet done right in all his CR 35 glory. So, if I have to wait a little longer on CoB to get converted, I'm ok with that.
Personally, I would like to see FGG/NG be 75% new material/25% older adventures update per year for the next couple of years. This allows for the great new material that I know FGG is gonna produce while also leaving some bandwidth for classics like Lost City of Barakus, Bard's Gate, Tomb of Abysthor (which I think should get bundled with an update to Crucible of Freya), Vault of Larin Karr, and Trouble at Durbenford to get the most current Pathfinder shine, not to mention I'd love to have the Hero Lab files and d20Pro maps for those older adventures.

I hope you're right, Dr. Fever, but I don't think you are. I doubt we'll see epic/mythic-level Pathfinder material from Paizo in the next two years - likewise, when they do that, it's almost certainly going to be the subject of a lengthy playtest anyway, so the final rules won't be coming soon.
That said, I think the Frog God guys can make a pretty decent CR 35 villain - just look at the Tome of Horrors Complete.

One question for any of the Frog God guys who are reading this thread: what does this actually mean for your company?
I ask because the prevailing sentiment here seems to be "yay! Now FGG can update/utilize old NG materials!" This seems odd, however, since Frog God Games has already been doing just that - from the ToHC to Slumbering Tsar to the Rappan Athuk kickstarter, these are all materials that Necromancer Games had released previously.
In other words, it seems like you guys were already able to update and reissue old NG materials. So what does this acquisition really mean for your company?

...one other question: does this business arrangement permit Pathfinder updates to Judges Guild material published by Necromancer Games? I'd pretty much cry with joy for Pathfinder versions of Lost Caverns of Thracia and City-State of the Invincible Overlord.
@ Alzrius: I guess I should have qualified my 'soon' statement concerning my gut feeling about level 21+ rules from Paizo. I think you are right in that we won't see any news at this GenCon (2012) but I could see its announcement at a 2013 GenCon. And I hope and pray that you are correct about there being a lengthy play test for the rules. Given the bad taste that most people had in their mouth after the WotC 3.5 Epic Level Handbook, Paizo is only gonna get one chance to get level 21+ gaming rules right. But, given their track record so far, I got a lotta faith in 'em.

While not an official answer, my understanding from talking to both Bill and Clark over the years is that, no, the Judge's Guild stuff that was produced by Necromancer is no longer available as the license has ceased.

Thanks for the reply Lisa, even if the answer does make me a little sad. I'm gonna have to start begging Daemonslye for one of his uber conversions ;)

No one's mentioned the SurveyMonkey, ah, survey. I was happy to fill it out, but the section that listed all the old products that might be updated to PF and asked you to rate them (scale of 1-5 basically) only allowed...how do I explain this...one product to be checked for each of the 5 scales.
Like, say there were 20 products listed, I could only pick 5 of them, and all 5 had to be separate choices (from "Do this one first" to "Never" being the range, I think).
The point is, there were tons more I wanted to "rate"!

Huh. Interesting but not surprising.
The acquisition has me wondering. I remember NG trying to develop a retro version of 4e a whiles back. It failed miserably, but I wonder if FGG would consider resurrecting it. I'm guessing no, but still have to ask.
Clark was the one interested in exploring a "4e Classic" at the time. Bill and Matt are focused on Swords & Wizardry, and Greg and company are into Pathfinder side of things. I'd think there was no chance of 4e support from NecroFrog.

Yeah I sent Bill a email about the problems with the survey and hopefully they can fix it and send out a new one.

Since 4E is on its way out and the GSL is what it is, I'm thinking...no.

I recently sat and talked to Bill for a couple of hours and after that conversation I am sure that he will not be doing anything for 4e. It is just not a match for his style of writing. We will continue to see Pathfinder and Swords and Wizardry products from FGG.
Good. I'm not sure launching your new venture with support for a system that's being wheeled into the cemetery is a wise business model. Vacillating over 'to support / not to support' 4e was one of the things that pulled Necro down in the first place. Let's not go there again. Pathfinder and S&W are the future.

I really wished Clark wouldn't pour so much time and energy into making his "support the current official version of D&D" idea work, but I'm glad that Necro IP is in good hands and in the right direction after all.
I'm confused. I was under the impression that boat left the harbour years ago. Clark's on board the Pathfinder ship and abandoned the "current D&D" support a very long time ago.

He did but not with out some regrets.

Who was this survey sent out to? I know I didn't get one... I often seem to miss emails from FGG though.
