Hey everyone! More happy news!

My acupuncturist found out today, after 3 visits, that I'm transgender. She has been treating me as a female patient because she thought I was female. She said it matters for acupuncture. She asked me about my cycle and I then spent the next 10 minutes answering questions about my journey. I'm her first transgender patient. She's been practicing for a very long time. More than 30 years.

I think it's great that she didn't realize it. I also love that she asked me questions about my treatment instead of what it means to be transgender. Everything was from a place of respect and trying to learn.

Her last name is Che. I have heard people pronounce it as Chee and as Chay. I asked her how to pronounce it properly and she said Chu. She said that everyone knows who they are referring to with the other pronunciations. I told her that I would like to get it right because that's her name. It's not even a hard name so there's no excuse.

Anyway, I had a great visit. I am very pleased with her. I now wonder if the rest of her team knows I'm transgender.

Another "first" for trans people

Kristal Larson

I want to highlight this because she won what to me is one of the most important elective offices anyone can run for: Township Clerk.

Running for local office is a critical "pipeline" issue for political change. If you want to see better representation of your views and positions in policy-making bodies, you need to start with the boards and commissions that control local policies that directly affect you.

School boards, county commissions, city councils, township boards. They're all places where important, high-impact decisions get made. And you don't need tons of money and TV advertising to get elected.

I recently finished reading the novel Red, White, and Royal Blue. Is it flawed? Yeah. Was it exactly what I needed right now? Most definitely. It warmed my cold, aging, gay heart. Just thought I’d share :)

I don't know a lot about California's politics. Is that a good thing?

It's not.

Celebrities “having a go at politics” is always bad, imo.

I don't have a problem with celebrities running for office. It seems like an odd disqualifier to me. I do have a problem with people who support policies that are harmful to BIPOC and the LGBT communities. It's sad to me that even people who are in those communities can support those policies either because they have been duped or because they have enough money to overcome many of the drawbacks that the policies have.

Update on what's been going on with me:

I had an appointment with a urologist for my orchiectomy. There are a couple things that she needs to talk to my other providers about, but it looks like I'm going to be scheduled in the next month or two! That's exciting.

Today I spent the whole day in public in a dress and I used to women's restroom, both without taking any anxiety medication and I didn't have an escort to keep me calm. I even got compliments on my dress so that was definitely exciting!

I went swimsuit shopping and I'm trying to get a membership with the YMCA. Because I'm unemployed, I had to apply for a scholarship. I need to contact them tomorrow and find out what's going on with that. Buying the swimsuit was traumatizing. I know that women in general don't enjoy it. It's even less fun for an obese trans woman who still struggles with dysphoria. I did need a friend for that. Within a few minutes, I was in tears. She had to come into the fitting room and sit with me while I cried and tried to calm down. One of the employees came over and helped me find a swimsuit that fit and most people think looks good on me. I can't look at myself in it if I see my face without crying. I will go swimming in public though. That's my plan. I will do this.

Okay.... that is just silly. There is hardly any difference between a girl and a boy until the later start developing his muscle mass during puberty. And even then, it isn't always helpful depending of the sport.

I also did a quick look a some Olympic records, and in some, we are talking about fractions of a seconds. That's from athletes with years of training. So compare that to high school students and I really don't see the problem there.

I actually got my ass into the pool today! I almost didn't though. I was signed up with the YMCA, but I needed to get my membership card and photo taken. I thought that I had reserved 3 days this week to swim laps. Turns out, the system did not do that even though I had selected it. I need to figure out what went wrong. Anyway, my plan was to swim at 0700. They told me that if someone doesn't show up by 0715 I can take their slot and get in the pool. I spent 15 minutes hoping that they would show up, but I waited. They didn't show up so I got to go swimming!

I didn't swim laps. The other swimmers were faster than me and I didn't want to slow them down. Instead, I just walked laps for about 5 minutes then I treated water for 20 minutes. I haven't done that in ages. I made a friend as well! It was really nice. She was very supportive.

I still can't bring myself to use the women's locker room. I don't know how anyone is going to react to me naked in there even if it's for less than a minute. I did use the family locker room though.

I'm hoping to go again tomorrow and then a couple times next week.

Well, things have progressed very fast for me all of a sudden. I saw the urologist a month ago for a consultation for the orchiectomy. I was told that it would be about two months before they could get me in. I got a call on Tuesday saying that they had a cancelation for Friday's operating room and they could get me in if I want it. So I'm getting my surgery done in 2 days. I'm terrified and excited at the same time. This is going to be not just gender-affirming care for me, but because I have a history of blood clots, it could be life-saving care for me too.

I will post an update when I get back to my computer some time next week.

Whoa, congrats!

Howdy folks. It has been a minute. Maybe three. Ok ok ok really 3yrs since I last posted and quite frankly even longer since I last played.

I see Cindy is living the dream. Yay! You go girl! I am on a similar path.
Some changes, fulltime MtF and actively transitioning. I am in a better spot than I have been in a long long time.

And congratz, ReckNBall, you got this!

Welcome back ReckNBall! It feels good to be a gangsta!

Update on me: I'm obviously out of surgery. I almost backed out. My anxiety was starting to peak. I was on the table and I was about to change my mind, but I didn't. They injected something into the IV lead and then I woke up.

I had some fun with them when I went in. I bought a Cone of Shame and wore it into the hospital because I thought it would be hilarious. They loved it!

I'm still a little swollen, but otherwise I'm ok. I'm definitely not ready for another surgery right now, but I think I'll be in a better place mentally in a couple years when I am now that this one is done.

Silver Crusade

Hehe, awesome, and great to hear Cindy.

Congrats Cindy!

I havent posted here in a while...and about myself and my journey in a longer time.

That is because mostly my journey has been nothing but bad news of late. The lack of support I am getting from friends is non-existent. My family seems to be going even more transphobic. I believe that somebody I knew for a long time is using the narrative of 'I am not really trans' to hurt me.

The pandemic pretty much cut me off from the few people who are really supportive. My Mom got diagnosis with pulmonary fibrosis. Which is fatal (it just takes time).

Back in December and January my stress got so bad that I lost weight and missed alot of work. I am better at coping with the stress now. But my life has not really improved.

I do get lots of support from people online (here and a few other places) but it is not enough...it is too remote.

Anyway just figured I would give a update on my life.

A bit of good news(maybe) is I finally came out to somebody at work. Mostly just so I can fully explain what I am going thru his reaction was good.

I'm so sorry. I wish that we lived closer so you could have my friends. Not my family, but my friends. I hope that you are able to reconnect with the friends who are supportive. You need them now more than ever, even without taking being transgender into account. You have a lot going on with your mother and you need people you can trust to confide your fears and emotion in.

Awesome news for transgender veterans in the United States!

The Department of Veterans Affairs is moving to offer transgender veterans gender confirmation surgery, Secretary Denis McDonough announced at a Pride Month event in Orlando Saturday.

McDonough said in prepared remarks that the move was “the right thing to do,” and that it was part of an effort to overcome a “dark history” of discrimination against LGBTQ service members. The move is just the first step in what’s likely to be a yearslong federal rulemaking process to expand VA health benefits to cover the surgery, but McDonough said the VA will use the time to “develop capacity to meet the surgical needs” of transgender veterans.

The decision, he said, will allow “transgender vets to go through the full gender confirmation process with VA by their side.” McDonough also referenced what he said were higher rates of mental illness and suicidal thoughts among LGBTQ veterans, and a fear of discrimination that prevents those veterans from seeking care.

“We’re making these changes not only because they are the right thing to do, but because they can save lives,” he said.

McDonough said the decision was based on the “recommendation of our clinicians, so this is a health care decision that has very real physical health care impacts as well as significant mental health impacts.”

The National Center for Transgender Equality estimates that there are more than 134,000 transgender veterans and over 15,000 transgender individuals serving in the military today.

McDonough’s announcement is the latest in a series of moves by the Biden administration to expand protections and benefits to transgender individuals in the military.

Just days into his term, President Joe Biden signed an executive order overturning a Trump administration ban on transgender individuals serving in the military. And in February, McDonough ordered a review of the department’s policies to “ensure that transgender Veterans and employees do not face discrimination on the basis of their gender identity and expression.”

I saw parts of it.

Not entirely sure what happened there. I don't know if that was an intentional foot in mouth moment to sabotage the company or just plain old bigotry on display.

At this point it almost seems like they're hoping to capitalize on the right wing trolls.
