I've suffered from PMS. I know I'm a guy, but I shared a house with a lass who made sure that when she suffered, we all suffered!

"I don't trust anyone who can't deal with a little blood."

Other good things to do include boosting protein intake and exercising, and get lots of hugs (seriously, it boosts certain good feeling chemicals).

And guys, while I myself have b!&!@ed about bad points in the menstrual cycle (you will notice any hissyfits I throw here at the forums tend to be about monthly), let's try to avoid insensitive humor, okay? I understand a little joking or venting, but it can cross a line easily and seems especially inappropriate to me to occur in a thread designed around tolerance towards sexuality.

Silver Crusade

Reminds me of a conversation I had with a female friend of mind. We dreamed up the fantasy kingdom of Tamponia, which valiantly keeps the Red Army at bay. Their allies in the kingdom of Penisia tend to be conspicuously absent whenever the Red Army is assaulting their castles.

There was so much wrong about that conversation...

Pfft.

Ladies, so you know, goblins aren't scared of a little blood.

So a shift in conversation...

I moved today. It was physically and emotionally stressful. I'm downsizing and I have to get rid of some things, like my favorite desk and some fans (yes, I owned 8 fans now I own 5. I like fans.)

The day started off a little rough. I hadn't packed much, only my clothes. A couple people who were coming over didn't know about my alter ego and I didn't want a discussion. I just wanted to move. A friend came over to help finish packing while I was signing my new lease and looking over the apartment. I walked in the office 2 minutes after they opened. There was already an altercation between a resident and the staff. Apparently he had observed one of the maintenance workers driving slowly through the parking lot over the last few days (doing his job) and so the resident decided that he needed to draw his gun on the maintenance worker and demand to see his badge. They don't have badges here. They just have a shirt and jacket with the apartment complex emblazoned on them.

I've lived in this complex for a year. I'm just moving from a 2-bedroom to a 1-bedroom. People like him concern me because he is angry, scared, and stupid and owns a gun. The staff is looking at what to do about it (I told them to call 911 and let the police explain to him what "assault with a deadly weapon" means).

On a much better note, my next door neighbors are really nice. They like to cook more than they can eat and I like to eat. They dropped off some homemade Almond Roca and coffee cake as a welcoming gift!

So the day started bad but ended good. I'm exhausted though. I still need to unpack. I also think my balsamic vinegar spilled.

Good luck in a new place Bob!

RPG Superstar 2015 Top 8

Moving is exhausting; I've been thinking about moving for three years and having done it just because the mere idea is stressful let alone the reality of it.

Glad you got moved okay and I hope you do well in your new place. Sorry to hear about the creepy resident but glad to hear the staff is on it--and I wouldn't feel afraid to call 911 myself if he's about to do something harmful.

Nice neighbors is always a plus!

I loathe moving, but I'm looking at doing so pretty soon. While I'm not a creepy gun-totin' loon (I do own a gun, but I'm not a loon), I'm less prone to be neighborly with strangers. I'm never rude to them, just prefer to not know them. I lived 6 years in a duplex and didn't know the people in the other half of it. I didn't know anyone else on my street, either. A friend who stayed with me for a few weeks knew everyone by the end of the first week he was there. He, and others I suppose, can't fathom my lack of interest in meeting new people.

There, having hi-jacked the thread, I turn it back over to all of you good people. Bob, good luck with the move!!! And 8 fans? Electric fans?

I don't have a problem with guns. I have a problem with stupid, scared, trigger-happy people with guns. I didn't know any of my previous neighbors but my current neighbors made it a point of getting to know me.

I really like fans. I like a slight breeze. Strangely enough, I even have them going with a heater in the winter. I just don't have as many since I don't want to cool it down too much. They are all electric fans. Coincidentally, that is also the same number of subscribers (read: fans) I have on Facebook. I have zero idea why I have subscribers on Facebook. I'm not interesting enough to follow. I tend to rant and rave but I'm certainly not interesting enough to willingly put into one's news feed, especially if you don't know me.

Evidently you are!

I love having a breeze moving as I sleep. If I don't have at least a ceiling fan, I'll set up a fan on a chair. Plus, the white noise helps me sleep.

I also have about a dozen followers on Twitter and I've never sent even a single Tweet. I'm definitely not interesting enough there. I think that some people just want to be followers.

But it's time for bed. I have to work in the morning then clean my old apartment after work. Not looking forward to it.

You could be directing your followers, Bob; if you don't have a cohort, you need to issue orders directly!

:)

Good luck with the cleaning and the unpacking, Bob. Hopefully you will be all settled in soon. Moving is definitely one of my least favorite things.

The cleaning is done. Now the unpacking begins. Hopefully I'll found stuff I haven't found in a while. Maybe money?

You know what really grinds my gears? Sexism, as well as the continuous arguments about which gender is the one society is discriminating against. Personally, I think everybody need to read this, and realize that our system of sexism in incredibly convoluted and harms both genders, not just one. NEITHER gender is the one being screwed over, because they BOTH are, and if I hear one more argument about which one has it worse I am going to rageflip something or someone.

This is why I sometimes wonder whether being transgendered is good or bad. On the one hand, I can understand both the male and female sides of this issue. On the other, I can never see anything simply. It always has to be complicated.

Well, that came out of nowhere...

Oh, it came out of somewhere...

In particular, that hive of villainy and scum known as the OTD.

Hi, Mama Kelsey!

Hi, Doodlebug.

Doodlebug has the right of it. I jumped into something in the Cultural Marxism thread concerning this issue.

Alright... as it was Marxist, that came out of left field. >g-r-i-n<

Puns are, like virtue, their own reward.

Just call me Hannibal.

No, not Lechter (sp?).

The Carthagenian general.

Free "attaboy" if you can tell me WHY you should be calling me Hannibal.

:P

Has anyone here read the memoir A Queer and Pleasant Danger by Kate Bornstein?

I found it to be a really informative and entertaining insight into the psychological process of being transgender (and the church of scientology, but that's less relevant here)

I am a cis-gendered, heterosexual male, but I have a gay cousin, two of my best friends are gay women (one of whom I live with), and my partner, who I met at the game table, is gender-fluid. Suffice to say, these issues still have a pretty direct effect on my life and the people around me, especially since sometimes my partner dresses as a man and we go about the town looking like a gay couple (which has been an interesting and entertaining experience for both of us).

Because you told me to, sir! I mean, because you told me to, Hannibal, sir! A good soldier follows orders. I was a good soldier once.

I've never heard of it. I wish I enjoyed reading as much as I used to.

The name Kate bornstein sounds familiar.

Well, she was/is a pretty famous performance artist if you're into that sort of thing. She's also written several other books, but I hadn't heard of her until I saw this on the Best Seller shelf while doing Christmas shopping.

We shall go on to the end. We shall fight in France, we shall fight on the seas and oceans, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our island, whatever the cost may be. We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender!

Heh. No, not because I told you to.

It's because of his role in the Punic Wars.

Please, tell me someone is a skill telepathic masseuse and can massage my hurting back, please?

I haven't such bad back for years. Because of headache and some virus or bacterial infection is trying to get a hold in my bronchis I won't risk taking a hot bath nor can I make any meaningful exercise without overheating and cooling too fast afterwards.

RPG Superstar 2015 Top 8

DQ's unsolicited advice time!

Wouldn't a hot bath also help clear your chest, Drejk? Steam's often the best thing for that.

I can get the fear of cooling off too quickly afterward, but what I'd suggest is a hot shower or bath, make sure your heat's on, and straight out of your bath get straight into warm layers.

If you're coughing, it is also likely that it is contributing to your back muscles hurting (I went to a massage therapist--sadly of the non-telepathic variety--and she noted I had some deep muscle issues that were probably rooted in coughing from a recent upper respiratory infection that I had). So as that gets better your back will too.

Otherwise:
If you don't have a heating pad, get a handtowel. Wet it and ring it out. Fold it in quarters and stick it in a plastic bag or wrap it thoroughly in plastic wrap. Microwave it for about a minute, or until it is very hot (do it in short bursts of 30 seconds or less after the first minute). CAREFULLY remove it and wrap it in another, dry towel. Place on back and anywhere else that is sore.

If your back is twinging/has pokey-angry pain/hot to the touch, then do NOT use heat, use a cold pack instead. Keep yourself otherwise warm; it should not affect your URI.

You should be able to do mild floor stretches without aggravating your illness. If it is lower back, lie on the floor and hug your knee to your chest and hold, one at a time, then both knees, then with your knees held to your chest, gently rotate at your hips, to the extent that you feel you are able. Repeat. Each step should take around to the count of 8. Obviously if your back is objecting to movement at all then just get rest and move about only as you can.

Take acetaminophen (pain killer) and ibuprofen (anti-inflammatory), with food. That'll help both your cold and your head and backache.

Disclaimers: DeathQuaker is not a medical professional. DeathQuaker is an expert only in injuring herself--but also treating herself so that she can continue on with a rapid recovery.

Feel better everyone! This has been a bad winter for illness!

Zinc has actually been shown to lessen the life of a cold. You can find it in lozenges for cheap.

On an unrelated topic, I was going through some boxes and it turns out I should have gone through some of them a long time ago. I found a miniature that I never assembled of a dragon from 1992. Yes, that's 20 years ago. It's from the Dragon a Month Collection from Ral Partha.

It's the third one down on this page.

I'm looking to see who in my area might want it. I'm not going to assemble it. I'm just looking to get it to a good home. I can't believe I found this little gem. I picked this up when I was still in the Army! That's a long time ago.

RPG Superstar 2015 Top 8

I'd be interested, Bob; what are you asking?

Also, you might want to post this in the miniatures forum to get more interest.

I'm not really looking to sell it. I want to give it to a good home. If I had to mail it, I would have to ask for the cost to ship it, but other than that, I'm not looking for money. If you live in the Seattle area, you can just come by and pick it up.

RPG Superstar 2015 Top 8

Sadly I am on the East Coast. If you find a local taker, great; if you don't, send me a PM and let's see if we can work out something.

Will do. I'm not in a hurry to get rid of it. It's not like the box is taking up a lot of space. It'll probably be here for a little while.

The Exchange

So Bob, you gonna make time and effort to head over to Espirit?. I have been in the vicinity and time frame but alas I was with family (in-laws, grandparents, kids) and this was not on the agenda. Thought I 'd give you a heads up.

Unfortunately, that isn't going to be something I'll be attending. At least not dressed up. I have some family in that area and they haven't acknowledged this part of me yet. I may swing by and see what it's all about though. It seems like it might be a fun place to meet some people and learn some things. The only other real problem would be the dates. They fall on days that are traditionally difficult for me to get off of work (I need to be at work the busiest days of the week). But since it's such advanced notice I may be able to swing something.

The Exchange

Something I noticed when moving from Femme to Drab is no one recognizes you. An example: I was introduced to someone while dressed to kill, had to switch back to drab for the drive home to a fully active house. I had to be reintroduced. Absolutely no acknowledgement of previous encounter. I'm a big guy@6'2" 220lbs. I stand out as either gender. But for what it is worth: Pack your alter ego just in case. There will be rooms designated for changing at the hotels, you never have to leave the conference spaces if you don't desire to.

I hated missed opportunities like this. It is a HUGE confidence builder.

I just sent a message out to some friends to see if they want to go. I'm mostly worried about bumping into family.
