Polio was nearly exterminated, so that's likely very much not the case.

Goes back to the old "abuse a selection pressure, watch some adapt" that led to the problem we have with antibiotics. Fish getting smaller is the same thing, only a different selection pressure. So is some tusked animals beginning to evolve not to have tusks.

Basic evolution.

Both statements are true, to a point. Certainly overuse and misuse of antibiotics has resulted in the appearance of "superbugs". It is regrettable that polio has not gone the way of smallpox.

If I remember correctly, one copy of a particular recessive gene provides protection from bubonic plague, but two copies results in cystic fibrosis. The same is true for malaria and sickle-cell anemia.

Despite his instrumental work in the development of the modern Western concept of race, and Eurocentric assumption that Caucasians were the 'original/basal' race, all of which would be employed for centuries afterward in the justification of racism, German natural philosopher Johann Friedrich Blumenbach staunchly opposed the notion that any of these 'races' he cataloged were truly inferior or superior to any of the others; he opposed the institution of slavery as well, and pointed out that the spread of differences between these categories were outweighed by the spread of differences within each of them. Sadly, these latter ideas didn't take as well.

Antanas Mockus, former mayor of Bogotá, could use a great deal more attention from anyone who seeks positive political change. He reformed public water consumption habits, defied FARC by cutting a heart-shaped hole in his bulletproof vest, revolutionized the city's abysmal traffic problems by replacing its corrupt police force with, (among other things) mimes, and - yes, you are reading the following correctly - won elections on a platform of raising taxes.

Though mostly known in recent years for his role as Alexander "Tig" Trager on the critically-acclaimed television series Sons of Anarchy (2008-2014), Canadian-American actor Kim Coates (b. 1958) has appeared in a startling number of legendary box office bombs and critical disasters, including (but not limited to) Waterworld (1995), Carpool (1996), Battlefield Earth (2000), Pearl Harbor (2001), The Island (2005), Silent Hill (2006), and Resident Evil: Afterlife (2010).

In another noteworthy instance, especially given his later role on Sons of Anarchy, Coates also appeared in the 1987 Miami Vice episode "Viking Bikers From Hell," also starring famed B-list action star Reb Brown (b. 1948), which was made famous to internet audiences after being featured in an episode of The Spoony Experiment in 2014.

In his 1964 autobiography, Malcolm X referred to the word "hippie" as a term that African Americans used to describe a specific strain of Caucasian people who "acted more Negro than Negroes". Whether he was accusing them of trying too hard, or that this was actually high praise, or a bit of both depending on individuals, is not clear.

The American school massacre problem predates the founding of the nation, with scattered records going back to the 1500s. Prior to the 1900s bladed weapons, such as swords and tomahawks, were the preferred choice for school killings. However, the first school shooting on record was in 1764, with school shootings starting to become steady in the 1890s.

To date, the most destructive school shooting is the Bath School Massacre, which happened in 1927.

American children have been dying in schools for nearly five hundred years.

She thinks "we are done a massive disservice by most western dystopian fiction for this reason. It lies about the way real dystopias actually look and feel."

No one knows when Ancient Egyptian civilization first evolved.

What is known is that the Ancient Egyptians were already an advanced culture when they settled along the Nile River. Archaeological studies have shown them rapidly constructing large buildings and setting up factory complexes nearly immediately after settling the area, showing an already-existing level of engineering that was previously not thought possible to have existed at that time.

As such, some modern theories are that Ancient Egyptians, and by extension most of the North African peoples, didn't migrate north-east from Africa but instead migrated west from the Middle East. This is backed by the fact Ancient Egyptian art generally matches modern North African skintones, suggesting Egyptians always had those skin colors, and the fact Ancient Egyptians were notorious in their own era for being racist against people with darker skintones.

Modern Egyptians are commonly mistaken for Europeans, which is why the debate exists to begin with.
