Once again another Paladin question

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

So I want to poll the forums and ask if you think a paladin taking advantage of flanking is dishonorable?

Also -thoughts on a med armor/dual wielding paladin? All I have ever see played is a sword/shield or 2-hander.

It is not dishonorable to use tactics, and nothing requires paladins to be armored knights.

+1 on it being fine.

Nothing wrong with a med armour TWF Pally, the lack of feats as compared to other TWF's makes it a bit of a chore though.

No more so than taking advantage of your strength modifier is dishonorable, or applying your dexterity bonus to AC is dishonorable. It is a circumstance of combat, not an underhanded maneuver.

We've just 'finished' two massive arguments on alignment and paladins, and you bring this up? Ouch! ;-)

Fortunately, this one's easy: I don't know of a GM who would consider using sound tactics "dishonorable".

This isn't a problem unless you're playing a Humakti in RuneQuest; otherwise, I know of no god who would say, "You must fight stupid, my champion, because in that way lies victory!"

While nothing requires it the paladin is not rewarded for unarmored play. It is often a complaint that fighters (and by extension other 'man in a can' classes) have very little choice but to play the heaviest form of armor in the game if they want to avoid getting hit.

There is a max dex build that can equal a mithril plate build for a paladin. Max dex would be 20+5lvl+5inherent+6enhancement = 36 which is a +13 bonus. Factor in +8 Bracers of AC and you have an Dex+Armor bonus of +21.

Paladin in +5 mithril plate: +14armor +3dex = +17
Fighter in +5 mithril plate: +14armor +7dex = +21.

However, the cost and commitment for an armorless tank is extreme and would detract from spending money on damage output.

Paladins are Lawful Good, not Lawful Stupid.

Paladins are required to be Lawful Good, yet many still end up Lawful Stupid.

Unless the OP is rocking a 30 point buy, a TWF paladin will by necessity be lawful stupid.

I recently played a TWF Paladin at level 12 with a 25-point buy and he rocked the house. Six attacks on a full attack coupled with smite evil was sick. Another player played a TWF rogue and when we flanked we ate the baddies alive!

I enjoyed it so much I have been thinking about making the build my first PFS character (which is why I looked up this thread). Still struggling with the 20-point buy though. So far it looks like this.

Race: Human

Str 12
Dex 16
Con 12
Int 10
Wis 7
Cha 18

Suggestions appreciated.

The Dungeon Bastard's take on paladins. Worth a look and listen. Bill Cavalier provides some excellent tips.

Can it work? Yes. Will it be optimized? No.

I playes a sword and board TWF paladin through runelords. TWF + power attack + smite is awesome. Especially against dragons/undead in that first strike.

For pfs I'd recommend lower Cha initially. And min Dex for TWF. Use belts to meet improved TWF chain requirements and a Cha headband eventually.

Str 14, Dex 15, Con 14, int 10, wis 8, Cha 14

( plus whatever race youve got. )
