The Butt of the Joke

A little while back someone joked about a wizard that solely uses his magic to try to headbutt the enemy (the joke being, namely, that no one with that much int can be that stupid).

Challenge Accepted.

I want to build a wizard that focuses all his efforts on delivering touch spells in combat...

...via his head.*

*(Let's assume the DM lets us make an unarmed strike as a headbutt without taking a level in monk.)

I'm thinking a dex-based build. It would probably look like this:

Elf Wizard - Henry the Hard-Headed
Favored School: Transmutation (Enhancement)
Opposed Schools: Divination, Illusion

20-point buy:
Str 7
Dex 18
Con 13 (4th level bonus goes here)
Int 18 (other bonuses go here)
Wis 7
Cha 11
I know it's more optimal to switch Wis and Cha here, but this guy is kind of... the opposite of wise.

Feats:
1 Weapon Finesse
3 Toughness
5 Reach Spell
5 Improved Initiative
7 Improved Familiar?
9 Combat Casting

A few favorite spells at each level:
1 - Mage Armor, Shield (don't die!), Shocking Grasp, Cause Fear (fear my headbutts of horror!), Touch of Gracelessness, Reduce Person
2 - Touch of Idiocy, Ghoul Touch, Spectral Hand (spectral head?), Cat's Grace, Disfiguring Touch
3 - Elemental Aura, Force Punch, Vampiric Touch, Excruciating Deformation, Fly (FLYING HEADBUTTS)
4 - Stoneskin, Fire Shield, Bestow Curse, Calcific Touch

There's a start. What else you guys got?

I thank a sorcerer might be better but ya that look about right not that a lvl or a few whould hurt if you do go down that way there is a feat from the dragon compendium that let monks use int instead of wiz

The Exchange

Edit : My mistake, weapon finesse. Forget the Italicized area then.

So this dude is gonna deliver touch spells by head-butting the victims but he has a -2 to do so via strength? doesn't seem like a good idea to me. I personally would switch something to remove the negative from strength....cha with strength? At least he will have a better chance at hitting someone. Also I can't imagine this dude being "purty" while using his face/head to deliver touch attacks so a bad charisma may work better RP-wise.
Maybe toss in Lunge feat also. Surprise! Headbutt from a distance.

Weapon Finesse works with unarmed combat. He has Weapon Finesse.

Sounds like this elf has spent too much time with Thibbledorf Pwent.

Grand Lodge

You do not need a level of monk to headbutt. Anyone with a head can headbutt. An Agile AoMF is something to invest in. Also, consider the Lunge feat.

Sovereign Court

Lunge is a good idea - that way, I can five foot step back, cast my touch spell, then lunge to hit.

I adore this soccer hooligan wizard concept, Reynard. As an enemy NPC, it would just shockdelight the hell out of players.

I can see a wizard in an armless black leather vest... blood curtaining from his buzzcut hairline down across his scowling mein and his exposed thin, defined, and tattooed torso... racing around with suprising agility and catapulting himself into opponents' mouths like a flesh bullet to deliver magically crippling effects.

"Right den... WHO WANT'S TASTE A OL' BERNIE?!"

Butt of the Joke would make me think of Fey Bloodline Sorcerer and Laughing Touch. Plus the little bit of fey in the blood could mean he has tiny little horns from a Satyr ancestor or is descended from mites that are described as "nearly all head."

I would definitely consider taking Reach Spell as 'cheating' for such a build. Lunge would be the way to go.

Henry the elf?

I understand that he's kind of a ghetto elf, but Henry?
;)

This must be done. Shocking Touch ftw.

Gnome so he is head butting... to a bit lower target area.

Yes to lunge, no to reach or spectral hand.
Stoneskin definitely.
Force punch or force hook charge.

That's soooo wrong. looks around furtively, steals idea.

Shadow Lodge

It occurs to me that an unarmed magus would work well for this. It has spell strike written all over it.

I like Tim's tiny satyr horns, but is there any way to get some outright rhino-style horn damage action in the mix and inject that nasty magic right into the opponent's brainpan?

Sovereign Court

Hmm, I think one of the Alter Self or Animal Aspect or other transformative spells gives you a horn, but I don't think it's actually any better than just your skull for delivering touch attacks.

I did find an awesome feat, though:

Death From Above
You allow gravity to add extra force to your charges.

Benefit: Whenever you charge an opponent from higher ground, or from above while flying, you gain a +5 bonus on attack rolls in place of the bonuses from charging and being on higher ground.

You guys are right - Reach Spell is cheating. I'll replace it with Improved Unarmed Strike, so our wizard can headbutt even without magic, and give him an Agile Amulet of Mighty Fists (only 5000gp) so he can deal 1d6 + somewhere between 4 and 7 on a headbutt. (All of the enhancement school features give bonuses to scores, even if they don't stack)

Sovereign Court

It strikes me I should have a familiar that also likes to headbutt things, lol. Maybe a goat that I later upgrade to... something. (Faerie Dragon might be nice - invisible headbutts! Otherwise something that can make it easier for me to headbutt things. I suppose I'll be flying around and headbutting by then.)

Boots of speed on this guy starting at higher ground and that would be a cinematic, Richter scale blow.

Aberrant bloodline perhaps? Can't take the lunge feat until level 12 as a straight full caster.

So this might take away some of the stupidity of the build, which is the point of course, but:

Unarmed Fighter 1/Wizard 5/Eldritch Knight

Feats (just off the top of my head):
1 - Toughness
Fighter Bonus: Improved Unarmed Strike, Kirin Style
Wizard Bonus: Scribe Scroll
3 - Combat Casting
5 - Improved Initiative
Wizard Bonus: Craft Wondrous Item (or whatever)
7 - Death from Above
EK Bonus: Weapon Focus: Unarmed
9 - Kirin Strike
11 - Lunge
EK Bonus: Weapon Specialization: Unarmed

And you actually get to use Kirin Style. When do you ever get to use Kirin Style!?

Obviously a Magus with Improved Unarmed Strike is of course the most functional version of this guy, but that might be too functional for him to be the butt of the joke ;)
