The other thread had grown quite... large, and I wanted to post up to gain as much attention as possible to the fact that we are in the final stages of playtesting for Psionics Expanded, as 5 of the 6 serialized parts have now been released and we are actively working on #6 - Hidden Intentions, which will include the new Cryptic base class.

So far, it looks like Psionics Expanded will be well over 150 pages in total once combined. Hidden Intentions is already over 20 pages with a lot of material still undeveloped and without any graphics.

Our goal is to have Hidden Intentions out by June, and the final combined book out by August. Part of meeting that goal is making sure we get enough playtest feedback on all the new material.

You can participate in the playtest absolutely for free. You don't have to sign up for anything, you don't have to register for anything. Just go to our Playtesting forum, check out the playtest material, and let us know your thoughts. You can let us know at the Dreamscarred site or here at Paizo.

Your feedback - constructive criticism or praise - is welcome and very much appreciated. Player feedback helped to shape Psionics Unleashed into the success it is and we want to continue that trend with Psionics Expanded.

And as mentioned elsewhere, we are always open to feedback even on already-released material. Errata can be issued and incorporated into the final book to make the printed version as great as we possibly can!

Which pdf has the Blasting Wilder?

Dreamscarred Press

It's in this thread

EDIT: Actually, I just posted the Beta thread of the blasting wilder. :)

It's so frustrating to me that none of my players have any interest in Psionics, and a couple have actually stated they wouldn't play in a game where they existed. I love the work Dreamscarred Press produces and I would love to playtest the new material, as well as use the material presented in Psionics Unleashed. I'll buy the print copy of Psionics Expanded, to be sure, but sadly it will probably never see any use.

Dreamscarred Press

DMCal - you can always use psionic NPCs and reskin them as magical...

Just saying :)

A soulknife whose mind blade looks like a normal sword wouldn't raise any eyebrows...

Psionics puts a very different flavor to the set of fantasy tropes. In some cases it may just be a matter of taste rather than balance issues. Not everyone likes Darkover either.

There are worlds where I would not use psionics, worlds I would not use magic, and worlds that I would happily incorporate both.

That certainly explains why I couldn't find it in my pdfs. :)

Hmm, not a fan of the Blasting Wilder. I think I'll just stick to Powers for my blasting.

Dreamscarred Press

An explanation as to why you're not a fan goes a long way to making changes to make it more interesting...

Just sayin :)

Altering the Wild Surge to increase the Power of the Surge Blast, instead of more powerful powers, seems like a less than good idea to me. There is plenty of versatility in the way you can Augment it though, and that might get me to come around eventually. I didn't like the Witch at first, but now the chance I'll play one is equal to all the other classes.

I did not something as I read over it though.

"1. If you spend 2 additional power points, your surge blast deals splash damage."

What is the splash damage? Is it like an Alchemist's Bomb, and the splash is minimun damage?

Dreamscarred Press

Yep - it turns it into an effective force grenade :D

Now you have me thinking of a Psionic Character that "breaths" force like a dragon breathes fire...

You guys should make a Psionic Dragon Prestige class or something.

Scarab Sages

The psionic Dragon Disciple is a great idea. It could easily be based off of the standard DD class with the old gemstone dragons as the available types. The one problem would be the draconic bloodline powers, since there is no equivalent in the psionic classes to build from as the sorcerer does. Still, it's worth looking into.

There are a few powers on the other hand that could fit, such as claws of the beast/energy and exhalation of the black dragon.

The Gem dragons were the whole reason I thought of the force "breathing" in the first place, actually. I don't think their pictures in MM2 did them justice, sadly enough. :(

Psionic concepts that are just rethreads of existing magical ones hold little interest to me. It's what Psionics does different in it's own unique theme that makes me want to incorporate it at all. In short, I have no interests in psionic Elminster, psionic Gandalf, or psionic Merlin. But a psionic Masharlyth who does things not imagined by the originals of these three, that offers possibilities.

There was a prestige class called the Diamond Dragon that allowed a character to spend power points for the natural attacks(and I believe breath weapon) of a dragon. That was something the Dragon Disciple does not do.

The Crebremancecer is a different Mystic Theurge, but it does it's job well.

Jeremy, maybe you and/or Dean Siemsen could cook up a psionic dragon or two for your ongoing Bestiary series (or its sequel)? And maybe sorcerer/psion Draconic archetypes with a sidebar for Dragon Disciple changes?

Heck, maybe modify the bloodline/discipline and Disciple PrC to be based upon non-draconic critters for those descended from (or "tainted"/"touched" by) aboleths, coatuls, phrenic creatures, etc.

Dreamscarred Press

It's definitely a possibility for the Bestiary.

Three cheers for more psionicy goodness!

Dreamscarred Press

Although we strive to get it right the first time, we recognize that mistakes and oversights can be made - even after countless hours of playtesting and reviewing.

The Official Dreamscarred Press Errata Thread has recently been updated with errata for Master the Battle content.

(This is something constantly being reviewed, so if you submitted feedback that hasn't been included, don't take that to mean we ignored it, it may simply still be under review.)

Cheers!

Something I've never quite understood is why a Synaptic Mask causes the stone to disintegrate when the stone is removed. It doesn't seem terribly useful, despite the the bonus a shard gives you lasting as long as the shard is in the mask.

Dreamscarred Press

It was put in for cost / balance issues found during the playtesting. Basically, because you could essentially get a +10 to every skill for under 25k gold and it just took a standard action to cover whichever skill you want.

Now you still get the flexibility of whatever skill you want, but it costs you the shard to change it out.

The cost of the mask and a +10 shard - 10k - the same cost as a +10 item. :)

In other news, a bunch of stuff has been added for Beta playtesting!

Cryptic Base Class

Cutthroat Archetype

Protector Archetype

Gunner Archetype

Battle Wilder Archetype

Blasting Wilder Archetype

Hidden Intentions is likely to be as massive as Master the Battle and Unlimited Possibiliites - currently it is 39 pages and growing, with artwork not yet added! Now's the time to get some playtesting in and help shape psionic support!

Still don't see how wasting gold is a better option.

Dreamscarred Press

Well, it's either that or the mask becomes so expensive as to be unusable.

:)

If you'd like to see the thread where this was all discussed (it's from over a year ago), that's here.

You could always add a little line saying that the bonus from the shards don't stack with any ranks you have in a skill! :)

Dreamscarred Press

You can if you want in your games. :)

We haven't had enough mechanical concerns brought up about them to justify any additional errata. The change implemented - burning out a shard (as it normally burns out when it's been used) after you take it out of a mask - was the solution agreed as the most mechanically balanced when the cost/benefit issue as originally presented was discussed.

It's not like the shard burning out is a new thing - that's how they work outside of the synaptic mask. They alone are 1-shot items. The mask makes them a permanent bonus on par with boots / cloak of elvenkind in terms of cost. By having them burn out - as they would have done if you used it by itself - it removes that balance issue.

I'll concede then. No need for me to keep trying after the utterly reasonable solution of house ruling has been brought up.

Dreamscarred Press

More stuff in playtesting!

Elemental Blast

Soul Archer - you asked, we answered - a ranged soulknife prestige class

Cryptic Feats

Improved Disruption

Disrupting Strikes

Psychokinetic Charge

Stealthy Blade Skills

Hello Elemental Blast... Great, now I gotta go rearrange my feats...

Dreamscarred Press

Glad you like it!

Here's some more playtest material!

Psionic Repair
Preserve Psyche
Absorb Weapon
Parasitic Possession
Hidden Body

Jeremy, always a pleasure to see new stuff coming out from you guys. I just wanted some help with finding the psionic monk archetype if it even exists. I found the psionic fighter, but i seem to remember a monk with a similar psionic side. I could of course just be confusing this with the fist centric soulknife. If it exists, please point me in the right direction(for playtesting) or please make it and I will play it like crazy!

Dreamscarred Press

We haven't released anything for the monk yet, it's still in development. :)

I can't wait for the Erudite to make a comeback (or something 'eruditish' so to speak)! And I love the soulbolt.

Dreamscarred Press

The Erudite is already available - he's an Advanced Psion Discipline in Unlimited Possibilities. :)

Please keep doing the playtests. Part of my world is psionic, but none of my players have encountered it yet, so there's no playtesting possible in my two games. The psionic people just don't mess around all that much with the rest of the world, except when trading. But I would like the rules all fleshed out for when it comes into the game. :)

If I heard right, the base psionics book is out in hardcover with artwork? I think you did a good job with the base rules, but the book just doesn't fit well with the rest of my PF books (different size, font, and readability). A bigger hard-cover with larger font size for easy reading (as well as artwork in color) would be very welcome. :)

Dreamscarred Press

The hardcover will still be in B&W. But it will definitely be standard size. :)

Ok, that will help. Hopefully the font will be a bit easier to read when larger. Right now, I have (literally, not exagerating for effect) trouble reading the copy I have, due to eye strain on it at times. You packed a LOT of information into a relatively small format.

If the Deadly Fist and Armored Blade archetypes for the Soulknife wouldn't replace the same features... I'd suggest an "Armored Fist" mix. Protect your self with the power of your mind!

On page 6, column 2 of "Unlimited Possibilities," the ranged attack augmentation doesn't say how many times per round the Aegis can fire crystal shards. I'm guessing he can fire as many as he has attacks per round, though.

I'm inclined to agree, although if there's a balance issue with that, it might need to be limited to once per round.

Given the fact that it's non-magical, I don't think it would be an issue, but I'm not going to state that for sure without additional evaluation. :)

So I'm open to feedback on that one and we'll issue an errata for the appropriate way to handle it.

Dreamscarred Press

We're starting to fully flesh out the different parts of Hidden Intentions - all those non-mechanical parts that give the product its final polish. Playtesting is still going on, but we're slowing down the release of new material because we're already at over 40 pages for this book!

There are a few things yet to put out for playtesting (the psionic monk archetype, a cryptic archetype, and a couple other archetypes), but most of the material is now in Beta playtesting.

I've also been gathering the feedback from releases 1-5 and incorporating those for the final compilation.

And for those wondering on the existing releases - so far, we've had:
2 5-star reviews (Unlimited Possibilities, Master the Battle)
3 4-star reviews (Find the Mark (twice), Pawns and Powers)
1 3-star review (Mind over Body)

For the currently released parts. :)

Just posted up a new archetype for the soulknife:

Nimble Blade

*looks over the Nimble Blade*
*looks at Deadly Fist*

You know, both of these are too awesome for me to care about them not stacking.

Adding Piranha Strike as a bonus feat was a little stroke of genius in my opinion. It makes up for the predictably low Strength score of a Nimble Blade, and let's them deal enough damage to let the survive easier to 8th level.

Credit where credit is due, the idea came from AmbrosiaSlaad on our forums. :)

I have got to go to your forums more often then.

And the beta of the Aberrant archetype is now posted! Come on, you know you want to play a hideously deformed, yet butt-kicking character!

Apparently I took too long and now I can't edit my post...

The beta of the Ectopic Artisan archetype for the Aegis is now posted. :)
