DR and sneak attack

Just a question in regards to DR and sneak attack: do you have to overcome DR, or do you automatically add all damage together, and whatever goes over DR is actual damage? And is there any difference, when you do subdual damage? Thanks for all help.

You add all the damage together, and whatever goes over CR is actual damage. Subdual damage works the same way.

Fixed it for you ;P

LOL, thanks

I could have sworn Sneak attack didn't do any damage at all if the attack generating the sneak attack damage was nullified by DR.
So if you are attacking with a dagger with 4d6 sneak attack and your 1d4 +2 didn't bypass the DR then your sneak attack was nullified.

Can't remember where I read this though, I might be wrong, it might be carry over from 3.5.

As far as I know this was neither in 3.5 nor in 3.0.

It worked the way concerro wrote in 3.5 as well, you may be confusing it with effects like poison, which do not work if DR stops the weapon damage.

Rider effects often need for damage to be dealt. SA is conditional bonus damage, not a rider effect.

That is very possible. Thank you for clarifying that for me.

What is the current ruling on this? Please provide link to official source.

DR does not negate sneak attack damage. The sneak attack damage is not a special effect that accompanies the attack, it is part of the damage roll.

Hope that clears it up.
