I still don't understand why Gruumash is so awesome!
Is it because he is secretly powered by Bionicle?
Is it because he is secretly a fronkensteen made of Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal and Teeling whiskey?
Is it because he is still more illuminating that the Centennial Light Bulb and more resilient than Prince Rupert's teardrop?
Is it because he is secretly Johnny Squirrelseed, planting squirrel seedlings from coast to coast on his wanderings?
Is it because he is the fabled bioneuromancer who built the "Take a Braincell, Leave a Braincell" hivemind for orange housecats?
Is it because he has never ever taken the last beer, the last slice of pizza, or the last doughnut without first ensuring everyone else has had their fill?
Augh!!!

Oh no, it's an Elf thing.

One of these days soon, I'm going to need to focus and dig in to Ptery's Discworld. I've been meaning to for years now, but my scatterbrain struggled through The Colour of Magic (though I've heard it gets easier once he gets into his groove a few books later). I feel particularly guilty as I have experienced so little of his works, but I've read everything from Neil Gaiman, and now that his mask is off... ugh.

I would honestly skip Colour and its sequel The Light Fantastic and maybe come back to them at a later time if you find yourself particularly interested in the wizards subplots in Discworld. I also almost bounced off it because I didn't jive with Colour.
I instead got in through the Death books (I started with Reaper Man, though technically Mort comes first), but I highly also recommend starting with either the Sam Vimes/Ankh-Morpork City Watch books (starting with Guards! Guards!) or the Witches books (starting with Equal Rites).
Pratchett himself recommended starting the series with the third Rincewind/wizards book Sourcery, which comes after Colour and Light.
And Here is a convenient guide to reading the series' various tracks.
And yes, seconded on the whole Gaiman situation.
