Catfolk - PFS legal?

Pathfinder Society

Silver Crusade

I was looking into a backup character, and i was looking at playing a catfolk - are they legal to play? or do i need clearence to play one?

All races from any of the Bestiaries require clearance (read as: a special boon thingy that I'm not sure as to how you acquire it) in order to play.

As per the PFS faq, looks like you need a clearence.

So Catfolk are not Legal for PFS play.

As some have mentioned Races outside of the Core book can be played if you have a Boon that allows you to do so. The only way to get these boons are at Conventions.

As far as I know currently there are not any boons that allow Catfolk for play.

Silver Crusade

Ah, fair enough then - thought id better check beforehand.

Thanks for everyones help.

Not yet.

I'm ready to play a tengu, but it looks like Golarion is set to be overrun by a hoard of strange races. My mother warned me this would happen.

Yeah, I'm right there with you. It's not very fun when *everyone* can be some wacky race. It's especially not fun when it's in an avowed "human-centric" world. I'd be sad to see this campaign's feel go the way of those that have come before (yes, I'll beat the LFR drum until you're deaf...)

Birdmen and Catfolk in the same lodge?

The Galt Revolution is going to seem like a egg tossing contest.

That's going to make Taldan invasion of Absalom look like a spat.

It's going make war against the Whispering Tyrant look like a gnomish belly-slap contest.

This won't end well.

Pain,

One might argue that Aroden saw this coming, and as the god of humanity, he promptly went belly up.

I'm not legal yet?

The campaign isn't going to be overrun by a hoard of strange races. Im not sure what gave you that idea. Your mother must have been wrong. Golarion is human-centric and will remain that way in Pathfinder Society. I've said in the past, and I will say again, most likely any new races allowed are going to be provided with a convention boon. Parts of the Advanced Race Guide will be available for play (traits, feats, etc), but we are not making the book wide open as is the case with most books.

Take note that the Dhampir and the elemental races have already been phased out as available convention boons. Eventually Aasimars, tieflings, and tengu will as well.

In a recent game we had 6 players, 2 where Dhampir and another was a Tengu the other 3 where Human.

See even in a group with 2 Dhampir and 1 Tengu, most of the Party was Human... ;)

Are you going to be allowing traits, feats, etc for the races people get the boons for?

I other words you can use the racial traits, feats, etc as long as you have the corresponding race boon.

Same with Pathfinder Player Companion: Blood of Fiends and Blood of Angels .

Once I have either book in hand, I will decide then.

I like the idea of keeping the races rare, but they should be rewarded from time to time. I've GM/Played 70+ scenarios and I've met only 1 Aasimar and 1 Dhampir in the entire time thats 2 out of about 400 player slots or .5%

Of course this is in the NYC region. So it may not be representative of other areas.

Eventually any of the races that would have been awarded will have 'leveled out' after about a year or two depending on the player. So rewarding them from time to time is a good thing. It keeps HOPE ALIVE! LOL!

On the Downside of this: PFS players may represent the 'core ' group of people that purchase certain products with PFS in mind so that if Advance Race Guide doesnt have much value for PFS players it may cause a drop in the number of overall purchases. PFS is a marketing tool for PFRPG products after alland the end result it to keep the customer base (i.e. players) happy with thier products.

The Advanced Race Guide includes options for core races as well, so there will be options in the book for all players to look at.

If my sales are any indication, PFS comprises perhaps 20% to 25% of total PFRPG sales. While that is significant, that is a good indicator of just how many people purchase products who have no idea what PFS even is. My PFS group is pretty big (I've heard that it is one of the biggest in the country), and I *still* only get 25% of my sales from that customer base.

The Advanced Race Guide will sell just fine, with or without wholesale acceptance into PFS.

Not sure how I feel about races being granted as boons. It hardly seems fair to close off one or more races for play simply because you don't attend the convention it was offered at.

I'm not against special play scenarios (indeed, I love them!) and special rewards from convention play (like special character bonuses) But something as basic as a player's RACE doesn't seems appropriate to me.

Also available for gamedays at your local store. If you want to see them hit your area, talk to Grandmaster Brock, he ensures that cons and gamedays get paizo support (as long as you can clear a certain number of tables played).

These are not core races however. These are races from the bestiary that tend to be more powerful than any core race choice. As such, they are given out as a reward.

Sons of Hei-Feng, my brothers!

I see in your eyes the same fear of anthropomorphized cat humans that would take the heart of me.
A day may come when the courage of sword-obsessed ninja crow people fails.
When we forsake our love of shiny baubles and break all bonds of cooperative play.
But it is not this day!

We will fight them in the aviaries.
We will fight them in the multi-level carpeted play-tower with adjoining scratching posts.
We will see them dead for what they did to our new couch and our hoards of tuna.
EVEN THEIR GODS ARE WRONG.
I would fight alongside a Chelish slaver. I would fight alongside an undead Priest of Pharasma. I would herd goblins and would gamble with Sczarni.

But I would never abide a catfolk to live.

I still have a filet of Kyle's tummy from the 2011 Michigan All-Star Gnomish Belly Slap Invitational.

So, here's my suggestion:

Every time someone registers some arbitrary number of sessions (say, oh, 10, then 20, ...) as a GM, her Paizo.com downloads include a certificate that allows her to play a PC from one of two races (let's say ifrit and vegepygmy). Every couple of weeks, the two races change.

With that, everybody would have an opportunity to play an odd-ball race. But it would be a reward for being a 1-star, 2-star, etc. GM.

That'd be cool. I'd even say, each star gets you a batch of races to choose from, and each star from there gets you another batch added to the first, so at 5 stars, let's say you have as an arbitrary number of 25 additional races to choose from. Though you can only choose and make a new character once for each star. That would be a cool GM reward.

Revamping GM rewards is certainly on my list. One of the things on that list is a unique boon or Chronicle sheet for each star level that will be automatically placed in the GMs downloads once they hit each new star. However, races aren't going to be a part of them. Races will remain in the realm of convention boons.

What about rewards to the GM's at their current Star level? Will we get those as well?

Sweet! I should be able to get my 3rd star at ORIGINS and hopefully I can get a race boon there too and any goodies coming up.

What about those of us who used to run a lot of scenarios, got all our stars and now hardly GM at all? What do we get?
