As I read the Water Walk spell it says
"Targets one creature touched/level"
"Duration 10 min/level(D)"

Whereas Water Walk, Communal says

" This spell functions as Water Walk, except you divide the Duration in 10 minute intervals among the creatures touched"

I would think that you would never take Water Walk,Communal spell as written for two reasons:

1. The duration is now actually REDUCED as compared to Water Walk.

2. The spell is 4th level as compared to Water Walks' 3rd level.

I welcome any other interpertations.

Well say you're 4 8th level characters in the party and you have to get all of them across some large body of water for some reason. Estimated travel time is 10 minutes.
Now you can either cast 4 3rd level Water Walks for 80 minutes each. Or you cast a single 4th level spell for 20 minutes each.

Actually, you can cast a single 3rd level Water Walk for 80 minutes each. Regular Water Walk is "one creature touched/level". At 8th level you can touch up to 8 creatures and give them each 80 minutes of Water Walk.

So, yeah, Communal Water Walk is just worse. Something's wrong.

Oh you're right. I missed the /level. It's worthless.

I think whoever wrote the spell made the same mistake Quatar initially did. The only way I can think of it being useful is if you can spread the entire possible duration, 10 minutes x CL Targets x CL, among as many targets as you wish. However, the text doesn't really support that. As is, it seems to be an accident.
