Home-brew Campaign: Wayward Kings

Recruitment

1 to 50 of 116 << first < prev | 1 | 2 | 3 | next > last >>

I may be biting off more than I can chew, but I would really like to try my hand at a home-brew campaign. I've been playing several PBP games, but I've never GM'd one, so this is probably going to be a rough ride at times. if you're still okay with that, then read on my friend!

This is taking place in a setting that is different from Golarion, but I'm using the deities from that setting. They won't have the same regional associations, but most of the rest will be the same.

Speaking of the setting, this story starts off in the area in and around the Iron Pines forest, which covers a pretty good chunk of land and is home to a lot of monsters and fey. Your characters will start out in the town of Redwall. Redwall is a crime infested hellhole that most would like to leave, but lack of funds and the iron grip the Lord keeps on the traffic in and out of the town. Redwall is named after the Lord's keep. The legend goes that the first Lord Redwall slew so many of his enemies atop the walls of the keep that their blood dyed the walls red. The walls are now black, but the townsfolk, as well as many of the farmers from the surrounding villages give the keep a wide berth while about. Redwall is relatively isolated and mostly human, so there is a stigma against outsiders and non-humans.

There will be some brutal parts to this. I'll keep it PG-13, but let me know if it gets to be a bit much.If that's going to bother you, then you may not want to join.

I can work with players on backstories after recruitment is done. Right now I'm more concerned with personality than backstory.

Character Build:

  • 1st level
  • 20 pt. buy
  • Max HP at first, average + con after that.
  • Average gold for class + two free outfits (This does not include your normal free outfit. These count towards encumbrance. You might want to include a Cold Weather outfit in that. This place is going to get chilly)
  • 2 traits
  • Classes, Archetypes, and equipment from the Core, APG, UM, and UC are all allowed, with the exceptions of Gunslingers, Ninja, Samurai, Guns, and Eastern arms and armor. Anything else needs approval.
  • All core classes
  • Core races are all welcome. Races that are defined by class levels need to be approved. Goblinoids, Orcs, and Ogrekin are out.
  • Not a requirement, but Orc, Giant, and Goblin are going to be useful languages in this campaign, just a heads up for those high INT characters.
  • Evil alignments will be reviewed on a case by case basis. Chaotic Evil is a no-go. Lawful and Neutral Evil will need to give me a code of honor, or something similar, that their character operates by. I want this to be fun, and I don't want the party falling apart because someone equated evil with jerk.

I'll keep recruitment open until I feel we have a good pool of characters. Don't be afraid to interact with other players in character. It's a lot of fun and gives me a better feel for the synergy between personalities, and it won't hurt your chances. I may even get in on the act to hone a couple of NPC personalities.

I've probably bored or confused you, so if you have any questions, just ask.

This very much appeals to me, consider me interested.

Alright, draft up a character and give him a little character.

Sorry, I should probably be shot for that pun.

Dark Lord of Salsa have a couple of questions:
1) Of the non-humans within the walls, what is their status? - ie. are they mainly in indentured labour or servitude?
2) Can you give a basic idea of how the PbP will start out? - is it a mercenary call, order of the lord, noble heroes setting out to right wrongs.

If I may ask a few more questions to help me get a concept down that would be great. Like how prevalent is magic, and what types are favored and looked down upon. How are certain races and classes perceived. Finally what is our general role? Guards, monster hunters, treasure seekers?

@ Mark: Mostly, they keep to themselves and try not to stir up too much trouble. Drawing attention to yourself is a good way to wind up dead in Redwall, for anybody. There are some rumors about the current Lord Redwall holding some elves and half-elves captive for, ah personal entertainment, but it's wise not to even think about such things around him or any of his lieutenants.

@ Mark & Loren: You'll be starting out just arriving at an inn called the Sleeping Leopard. The nearby forest, known as the Iron Pines is a wild place and no one is sure what lurks in it's depths. It's home to goblins, orcs, ogres, and worse things. You all are probably monster hunters and treasure seekers, with some of the more scholarly ones being lore hunters.

@ Loren: To answer your first question, Wizards jealously guard their secrets, but elves, dwarves, and gnomes tend to be more accepting of apprentices, training several over their life times, and are respected for their learning. Human wizards are viewed with both suspicion and reverence. Very old wizards that have studied many subjects are treated as wise sages and are pretty much allowed to do as they please. Witches are either hunted or revered, and it really depends on luck. One town could accept a witch, showing them with gifts or feasts, and the next one down the road could chase them out of town or burn them at the stake. Most sorcerers don't get beyond a few spells, but a few become powerful mages and are seen as heralds of power or harbingers of doom. It's pretty much similar to how witches are treated, luck of the draw. Divine casters, such as clerics and oracles, are treated with respect, and are viewed as a blessing, or a punishment from the gods. Druids, are the odd ones out here. They are treated with fear and suspicion due to their closer ties to nature, and the Iron Pine druids especially so.

In short, those that learn spells (wizards, alchemists, and magi) are much more rare than those that can cast innately (sorcerers and witches). In Redwall, arcane casters are not welcomed and are outright feared. Druids are likely to get run out of town if they are obvious about being a druid. Divine casters are generally welcomed, but clerics of evil deities are not.

I hope that answers your questions, let me know if you need more.

Liberty's Edge

I think I should like to submit Dalvius Goresether, a dwarf soul forger (magus), who is bonded with a dwarven waraxe. His interests run the gambit from war to magic, and he has a keen eye on any magic items or other arcane interests for both mage and warrior, primarily for the purposes of trade. He's also quite jovial, throws parties, hangs out in taverns when he's not watching the markets.

Traits: Dealmaker, Zest for Battle

Character concepts I have come up with so far

-Trapper ranger: Grizzled old veteran of the woods who seeks to protect RedWall from the monsters that lurk beyond its borders. Treats others as ignorant and foolhardy, thinks he knows everything there is to know about the forest and its monsters.

-Cad/Brawler fighter: Thug who grew up in RedWall and lived a hard life, he has turned to being a hired thug and believes in doing anything to survive. Snarky, selfish and sticks out for number one.

-Dragoon fighter: A lone rider who fights back the monsters from the woods to keep the townsfolk safe, he believes that there are some people worth saving.

-Alchemist/Wizard: Works on the outskirts of town on semi twisted experiences enjoying the secrecy and lack of persecution. Half deranged and always excited to test out his newest experiments and theories, very calculating and has a sick sense of humor.

-Gravewalker Witch: Woman who knows the woods well(possibly serving as a guide) ventures into town to pick up ingredients or pass on news but is a bit of a loner. Find it hard to talk to people and keeps personal information to herself tending to find solace in the spirits around her.

With that info I will change up the personalities of my character options to fit the game.

I will post the refined concepts tomorrow

Im really interested !

Id like you to meet...

Vanea Lothmatis
Half Elf Priestess of Calistria
CN

Traits : Charming (of course!) , Dangerously Curious

Stats:
Str 11 Dex 13 Co 12 Int 12 Wis 15 Cha 14
Total points 20
Racial bonus Cha +2 (16)

Domains Charm, Chaos

Background
Vanea is the daughter of an elf girl who got seduced by a human guard from Redwall, years ago. She was raised into the forest by her mother's family.
Her mother died during childbirth and having no clue about who may be her father, she soon understood, as a teenager, that the local elves didn't like her, didn't accept her.
She sought acceptance by becoming a priest, and even if her status improved a little, its still wasn't much warmer.
So the left her "tribe" and got back to Redwall to seek who may be her father, without much clues about it.

Personality
Happy going, smiling, good looking, overly flirtatious... at the surface.
Ill at ease with old human males, especially those in position of authority.
Seeking respect and acceptance.

I have a half-elf master summoner I made for a game to test to see if the class was really as bad as OP as people on the boards were making it out to be, but the game didn't last long, and the GM kept granting extra boons and ad hoc bonus feats to all characters, so it, while fun, was a pretty bad litmus test of class power. Her eidolon would have some combat potential in the beginning, but once he started to fall behind, would switch focus to skills like Stealth and UMD to help support the party with wands and staves.

I'm not sure yet why she would have gotten stuck in Redwall, but she'd be looking to get out, and would be living in hiding, feeling quite alone without her eidolon (who looks like a feline elf and have to be kept unsummoned for much of the day).

Hm okay, I wasn't expecting everybody to say they're in Redwall already, kinda kills the logic behind finding an inn in the first place. I guess I can roll with it, I'll just have to flesh out why you were gathered at the inn.

I'm liking what I'm seeing, so keep them coming.

Liberty's Edge

Dalvius can be from outside Redwall, if you like. Maybe part of the reason he's there is to find trading partners.

And Dalvius will be there for the wine, mead, ale, beer, or any other alcoholic beverage you can think of....

Well, there's no reason why my summoner Xara couldn't have just arrived in Redwall.

Despite the fact there is already another summoner, I'd like to submit Ray Remiar, who is just looking for a place to hide and rest. His intro-chapter from a story I tried writing is in his profile, and serves as his background for games.

He's just a plain Summoner with a wolf-like Eidolon. He's Neutral Good right now, but could slip over to Neutral and eventually Evil depending on how the game goes.

Hey Lillith! How's it goin'?

It's going rather well, Terri. Don't go picking Ray just because we're in another game together, okay?

[mock_shock]Wha-? I'd never do that![/mock_shock] C:<

In all seriousness, Ray's backstory could totally happen in this stting and Ray's home could be one of the farming communities around Redwall.

He just got the bad end of the stick, you know? I see him as a more pious Summoner. Wish there was a divine archetype for the class.

If you want to see how I've played Ray in the past, here is the Kingmaker game I played him in. Yes, I thought of Ray because the recruitment had "King" in the title and the thought of a farm boy turned King entertains me.

I'd be interested in playing a Divine Hunter Paladin, probably a human. I'll work something more up later.

I have decided to play a ranger. I am not sure yet of the race but he is likely a human or elf. He will be a grizzled veteran of the woods and protects one of the outlying farming settlements. He is a know it all who attempt to study the creatures the best he can and thinks he knows everything about them even if he is wrong (say he rolls a nat 1 on knowledge nature and believes that all trolls are vulnerable to cold not fire damage he will stick to that until proven otherwise) other than that he views himself as a protector and mentor of the others he travels with. He is quick to anger but forgives easily and once your friends with him he has your back for life (unless your goals are obviously evil or something like that. In conclusion he is a no nonsense guide and protector, fiercely loyal, quick to anger and to forgive, and a know it all monster hunter. sorry its a bit scatter brained but I am in class at the moment.

Liberty's Edge

The magus skill list leaves a lot to be desired. I was wondering if you'd let me trade out knowledge (dungeoneering) for appraise? I feel like a weapon and armor crafting archetype should have some skill changes anyway?

That is, assuming that Dalvius is selected.

No, no it's fine. I like the Know-it-all monster hunter aspect. That'll be a lot of fun to RP. I can imagine this guy getting into arguments and then being proved, only turn and say, "I told you they were X, not Y!" Y would be what he was saying. Sure, it may be a little cliche, but that's half the fun.

As for the divine hunter paladin, I'm interested in seeing what that character is like.

Here is my dwarf zen archer for consideration. Range, perception, and stealth in one package.

I have an assimar cleric and a changeling oracle of life in mind to be the walking healing bank too.

Shadow Lodge

Dotting for interest. I will throw my hat into the ring.

DM-Dark Lord Salsa, would you allow the antipaladin class played as a lawfull evil or neutral evil character? I can patch together a code of honor for him. My ideia would be of a former knight of Lord Redwall who have fallen in disgrace and lost his post. Sir Grieves.

Shunt by his former master and despised by the general population Grieves finds himself without friends and on a very precarious position. He is just counting time until his Lord finally have him executed or a lynch mob hang him from a tree. He is at the Sleeping Leopard Inn working as a monster hunter, desperately trying to gather enough gold to leave town.
His inside knowledge of Lord Redwall s household could make him an interesting party asset.

Um, I'm going to have to say no to that. I should have put the Antipaladin class up there under the restricted classes, but I honestly forgot there was an Antipaladin class. I'll post some more on Redwall and Lord Redwall later tonight, but for right now, I'll just leave it at Lord Redwall is more likely to have antipaladins than paladins in his employ. The dude ain't nice.

EDIT: updated campaign info. Hopefully that helps give people a starting point.

Dotting for interest, never have played in a PbP before (forewarned as they say).
Was thinking a young man (human) from one of the out laying farms. Whose home is attacked and burned down in the middle of the night, with him being the only survivor or one of. Being a survivor has left a chip on his shoulder feeling guilt for making it
Thinking either Fighter or Rogue

Shadow Lodge

Ok, no antipaladin. But were you ok with the character ideia? I could build Sir Grieves as a pure fighter, fighter/rogue or something else. Would another class be alright with the same character concept?

No problem. I'll post some guidelines in the discussion thread about posting once recruitment is done, but it's not that difficult to learn the differences between this and a face to face game.

I'll have to take a look. I'll have an answer for you in a little bit, hopefully.

@ Bimbur Longstrike: Hey Chainmail, always glad to see some familiar faces.

@ Merck: That could work. Like I said in the OP, I'm more worried about what your character is, and what they're like rather than where they come from.

I'm with Darkmind6801 in the sense that I'm a new player to the whole PbP. However I have been playing Pathfinder for over a year and a half so I have a good grasp on the game, and I have a good character that i would like to try out sometime. His name his Jon Kull (Human) Rouge (Knife Master). Brief back story is that he was a homeless, parent-less child of the streets (one of the traits i would take) and the years were pretty hard on him. That is until he found a friend named Ryan just like him and it was those two for a while just trying to survive the streets. The only weapon ever available to Jon was this half rusted piece of crap of a knife (broken condition) that helped them survive for it was the countless years of knife wielding that allowed him to strike with such precision that he was able to fell foes quickly if needed (knife master comes to play).
That is until Ryan was killed before his eyes and since than he rarely speaks and will do ANYTHING to survive. So over the years he was a hired hand and now is looking for something more in the world to hopefully get out of himself and trust people once again.

So if I'm to late to join so it seems than worth a shot

Nope, you're not late in the slightest. I'm probably going to keep this open for at least another week. He seems like he'd be an interesting character to play as or with.

Interesting and thank you well hope to get in. I'm working on his build now, o and also if you want the full back round just ask it may take a little longer to produce since all wrote was "brief", as I said in my last post.

Question of interest what lvl do you see us getting to as players?

At least 5th or 6th. I have an idea of the plot, but I only have a concrete road map of maybe the first third.

Dark Archive

I've had an idea for a Cayden Cailean freedom fighter-type Inquisitor with the Preacher archetype. He might head to Redwall to try and free the people there from the oppression of the local criminal overlords. He'd be an archer, I think. Get a little Robin Hood vibe going.

Out of combat, he'd probably be a little more Friar Tuck. Can't really be devoted to Cayden Cailean without a love for strong ale and good times. And loose women. Definitely loose women.

While I think he'd be into freedom and liberty, he wouldn't be an anarchist or something like that. Closer to revolutionary era Americanism. Needs a name, though. Something evocative of the freedom thing. Paine maybe. Does Cassel Paine (Payne?), suck?

This is Litchfield and the character I'm putting forward. There is some background info in the profile. Personality wise he is a loner which spends much of his time traveling in solitude or when with a party working to watch out for things which might cause trouble for the party.

Shadow Lodge

Ok, I changed a little bit my first idea. Submitting Eudonius Lynch, Alchemist.

Dr Lynch:

Eudonius Lynch
Half Orc
N
Alchemist, Preservationist and Vivisectionist archetypes.

Str 17 Dex 13 Con 14 Int 15 Wis 10 Cha 8

Skills

Disable Device 5 (1 Rank)
Handle Animal
Knowledge Arcana 6 (1 Rank)
Knowledge Nature 6 (1 Rank)
Perception 4 (1 Rank)
Survival 4 (1 Rank)
Use Magical Device 3 (1 Rank)

Background

Nobleborn, the curse of Eudonius's life was to be the child of his mother's unfortunate experience with an orc. All his childhood he felt the weight of the great shame his mere existence brought his family. Books were his only friends and he spend most of his waking hours studying. That of course when he wasn't involved in some fight. Since his peers had discovered he was easily taunted at the mention of his "soiled" blood, Eudonius had very little peace.

Upon reaching maturity his family was not sorry to see him go. He devoted himself completely to science, obsessed with finding a way to remove the taint from his being. But forefront research is very expensive. When his money was almost over he got an offer from the Lord of Redwall. In exchange for servicing and updating his dungeons and interrogation chambers the lord would finance his research for a full year.

It was almost too good to be true and, in fact, it was not. After finishing his end of the deal Lord Gurat tossed him out only with the few possessions he could carry. Shunt by his former employer and despised by the general population Lynch finds himself without friends and on a very precarious position. He is just counting time until Redwall finally have him executed or a peasant mob hang him from a tree. He is at the Sleeping Leopard Inn working as a monster hunter, desperately trying to gather enough gold to leave this hell hole of a town.
His inside knowledge of Lord Redwall s household could make him an interesting party asset.

Personality

Aloof, absent-minded with the mundane and sometimes self important Dr. Lynch is very proud of his noble blood, and very self conscious of his orc half. He has a profound admiration for the accomplishments of the intellect and is a avid scholar of all the great sciences. But during his research he has learned the ways of the back alleys, stealing fresh corpses and performing other activities better left unsaid.

Slow to anger, he becomes very hot tempered when his blood finally boils, a flaw of his tainted blood, or so the good doctor believes. He is not so much interested in the concepts of good or evil as he is in the great prizes that await for those bold enough to unravel the mysteries of the soul and the flesh.

Background:
Kyle was born on the streets of ______. Even from a young age he was fiercely independent, and didn't want to follow the rules of a gang or guild, so avoided them.

As he grew older, and he got more skillful, it became harder to be on his own. The guilds who were offering him membership before, started to make demands. Just when things were getting sticky and Kyle was afraid he was going to be forced into a guild, he met a Half-Elf named Kara.

Kyle was trapped in what he thought was a dead end alley with thugs coming after him. His back was against the wall, when suddenly the wall gave away a Kyle was sliding down a ramp and landed in a heap of old rags with a the grubby face of a half-elf smiling over him. That was his introduction to Kara. The two were inseparable after that. Adding Kara's abilites to Kyle's allowed them to pull off bigger and bigger jobs.

The two were jumping along the rooftops when they heard a commotion. Peering over the side they saw some particularly nasty thugs from a guild Kyle and Kara had learned to hate about to kill someone in a finely made cloak. Always willing to make trouble for this guild, they stepped in and drove the thugs off. Laughing at thugs running down the alley, they checked on the would-be victim. Pulling back the cloak they were staring into the lavender eyes of a Drow Elf. The Drow was near death already and Kara wanted to leave it to die, but Kyle disagreed. He brought the Drow back to their hideout and nursed it back to health, but it would never walk without a limp again. Kyle offered the Drow membership to their rag-tag group, against the protests of Kara. The Drow realized that in his crippled state it was more than a match for the soft city dwellers but wouldn't survive a day in the Underdark (?), and not having anywhere else to turn, he agreed.

The drow began training Kyle and to a lesser extent Kara, who hated being in the same room with the "creature". The three started to make a name for themselves as "Problem Solvers" although Kyle was the only visible one. They kept the drow and Kara's abilites a secret. Kara was the "Face" of the group, she got the jobs and "aquired" the needed materials Kyle was the arm he did most of the work, and the Drow was the brain, he figured out the logistics and helped Kyle. They became quite a force to be recond with in the city. Kyle's repuation grew, and they started to aquire contacts and "friends" on the streets. It was becoming quite a lucrative enterprise.

Kara came to Kyle one night with information about a prospective job. She said it would solve all their problems and they should cut the Drow out, do the job and leave the city forever. Kyle laughed her off, and told her he couldn't do that, they were a team. She was insistent but in the end Kyle got his way, much to Kara's disappointment.

The night of the job, Kara came to Kyle one more time, and asked if he would just leave the city with her and never look back. He asked her what was wrong, but she just laughed, told him that nothing was wrong. and went off to do her part.

Everything went off without a hitch. Kyle had the object they were to retrieve, and he met the Drow at the appointed time in the alley where Kyle first met Kara. They were waiting for Kara to finish her part and meet them, when things took a turn for the worse. Guards wearing the standard of the house they got the object from poured into the alley. Knowing it was hopeless, the Drow committed one noble act of his life, he pushed Kyle down the secret ramp and barred it determined to return the favor and save Kyle's life. Knowing there was no way to get back to the alley in time, and not wanting his friend to have died in vain, Kyle ran. He stashed the object, and went into hiding.

Days passed and the heat hadn't cooled down at all. If anything it was more intense. All of his contacts, and street "friends" where now his enemies. The city guard and most of the guilds in the city were looking for what he had taken. He couldn't find Kara, but had to assume the worst. It would be best to get out of the city for awhile. He came across the town of Redwall, and figured he could lay low for awhile.

Designer's Notes:
This character was originally designed for use in a Ebberon campaign, where Kara was a Changeling. I really like the idea of her being a changeling, but wasn't sure if they existed in your world.

I used drow because I thought the would match the skill set I wanted for Kyle. I wanted him trained as a Drow Assassin... well okay mechanically it would be a Ninja, but if we called it Drow Assassin, it would lose that Eastern Fluff. If this is still a no-go I understand. I can't envision this character as anything else, so if you are dead set against the Ninja, even re-fluffed, I'll try to come up with something else.

I've tried to leave a lot of plot hooks for the DM in this. I've also left some things vague so they can better be adapted to the story. Things to play with could be:
Who was Kara? Was she a plant from the start? Was she ever a plant? Is she still alive?
Who was the Drow (and it doesn't have to be a drow, I was originally going to use a Warforged, and there is a varient where he's a Valenar Elf. The reason I went drow was because I wanted him be where Kyle got his class skills from, and drow made the most sense)? Why was the drow in the city? Was he an assassin, if so who was he there to kill and why?
What was the object?

The things that haven't been fleshed out that could integrate into your world better, are: His starting city, the guilds that were after him, the noble house that he stole from, the item that he stole.

@DM-Salsa You'll do fine.
Remember you are the boss. Make it how you like it.

Put me down for an aasimar cleric of iomedae. I will be the LG goody goody that heals everyone that is not evil in the party. If aasimar is too unbalanced I'll be human.

Liberty's Edge

Well I do have another idea. Xzavier Kalasfir.

A human phantasmist (Illusion Specialist Wizard) with a scientific perspective on the terrors that the mind can withstand.

Opposition Schools: Conjuration, Enchantment.

Traits: Lore Seeker (cause fear, haunting mists, nightmare), Skeptic.

Xzavier has been a strong pursuit of science, some for the purposes of healing the mind from the damages inflicted on it by unnatural terror, and some just to understand what these unnatural terrors are. He has a penchant towards the pseudonatural, but resists it except when curiosity drives him to pursue darkness and strangeness.

I'm interested in throwing into the lot. Probably a fighter or a barbarian.

I'll be proposing a Dwarven Fighter (Brawler). He'd certainly have a lot of fun pubcrawling with the Cayden Cailean Inquisitor, for sure, sticking his finger in the eye (sometimes literally, he's a brawler after all) of the provincial non-human prejudice...

Some flavor for the above Dwarf Brawler:

"One-knuckle?"

"Yes, because that's all I need to beat you."

Personality:

The coachman eyed the coin warily.

"Eh? It's good gold. Nary a sliver missin'. Minted in my homeland, you see? I know."

He raised the coin to his mouth and bit. Mumbling something approaching agreement, he spat at Thugan's feet and shook the reins, and the coach headed out of town at a near gallop. Thugan's pack tumbled off the siding, spilling its contents across the muddy path.

"Bloody fool," he muttered. He collected is assorted belongings, scraping the mud and filth of as best he could.

He turned to face the town. Several passersby had stopped to watch the tiny drama unfold. Now, their interest piqued but not sated, they watched the newly arrived dwarf with expressions running from bemused right on through unfriendly to downright nasty.

"What? Haven't you seen a dwarf before? Shoo!" That broke up the crowd. Thugan rolled his eyes at the few lingering glares. "Peasants...hmph."

Shouldering his pack, he strode into – he checked his map—hmmm, Redwall. He glanced about. Not very red, really. More like…..brown.

He sighed, stamping some more mud off of his boots.

---

"Keep off of me! Keep off!"

The dark-haired woman struggled to free herself from the grasp of a man in blackened armor. Rather overdressed for the occasion, isn’t he?
Thugan stopped alongside one of the many booths lining the market square, focusing on the confrontation playing out across the street. He ignored to sour looks from nearby merchants.

“Now Martya, you know Lord’s orders. This is not the first time you’ve been naughty, been sticking your nose places it doesn’t belong. Lord says something, you do it. Lord says don’t do something, you don’t do it. That is how this town works.” The armored man’s grip showed no signs of giving way, despite the woman’s increasingly intense effort. The armor of covered in graven images, Death’s Head and angelic figures, strange perversions of the types of iconography Thugan had seen the holy orders favor. Fallen from grace a bit this one has.

The woman slipped in the mud and fell, prompting a laugh from the men-at-arms surrounding the two. The man’s grip barely kept her from falling completely on her face. It did not stop the mud splatter from coating the man’s lacquered greaves. His gauntleted backhand across her face stunned her momentarily into silence.

“Listen here, woman. If I have to come back to this s!~!hole a third time, I will leave you staked to the side of your stall and split in two. And that’s only if you have the good fortune to not be summoned as a….special guest of his Lordship” He gave her a good shake. “And now…you’re not to trouble the Lieutenant again. You’re not to be seen at the garrison again, or I swear it, the next time I return it is with a naked blade.”

Thugan pushed forward without thinking. One of the men-at-arms moved to block his way, partially unsheathing the short sword at his waste. “That’s far enough, squat.”

The armored man turned, his face a mix of surprise and amusement. "Think you have enough men for an unarmed female trinket seller?” Thugan asked. “Might’n you want to bring along….I don’t know, a dragon next time?”

The man favored Thugan with a thin smile. “A funny dwarf. And one that speaks passably well for one of your kind. Curious," he said. "Begone. This is none of your concern, outsider.” He kicked at an object on the ground. A small knife skittered away through the mud. “And she was not unarmed.”

He stood thinking for a moment. “I will give you a pass on this, squat, on account of your obvious mental handicaps.” He jerked his head, and the men-at-arms formed up to return to the keep. “See that you mind yourself in our town. Your kind are not welcome here.”

Thugan watched the men head back towards the keep that dominated the town. Several of the men-at-arms smiled at him as they marched off, pregnant with the promise of future violence. Thugan smirked right back at them.

“Huh. I think I’m going to like this place.”

"Yes, because that's all I need to beat you."

** spoiler omitted **...

That is pretty much how most of the guards act. (Heck I even use "thug" to refer to them in my notes.)

Nope, that's about as far as I have concrete details on. We'll probably be looking at getting much higher than that, depending on how everything goes.

Here's an idea to add to your list...

LUCKY LONGO BAckROUND IDEA:

Lucky Longo is a strapping young gypsy with a spring in his step and a light in his eye. A wandering tale-spinner and dream speaker, he was born on the eve of the vernal equinox beneath a canopy of stars. His was raised among nomadic tinkerers, who travelled the roads and byways of the country during a time of great strife and woe. He was froma poor family - but he was favoured as a bright star for his generation - and as a young boy he was taken in by the clan matriarch to receive instruction in the old ways and rituals of Desna.

Lucky's people have alwasy had a reputation for thieving and mischief. As a child Lucky was certainly one of those lads who contributed to this notoriety. He had a knack for getting out of trouble - even when some harsh disciplining was well deserved. He had enemies - those jealous types who knew that his fame exceeded his ability. But he had admirers too - particularly among the young lasses.

As he grew up, his god-given magic became manifest and the wise among the people began to wonder at his imminent power.

At this time great hardship fell on the wayward people. Historically they had often been distrusted and despised by the majority citizens in the land. Their history is filled with tales of religious pogroms and genocide. Recently they became once again the targets of a local crusade. Authorities stormed their camp and rounded up all of the vagrants they could catch - young and old - male or female. It was a spectacular event as they were hauled into the city, strung up, flogged and then set ablaze and screaming before the hysterical mob.

A lucky few managed to escape into the wild as outlaws or blended into streets to live among the thieves and beggars of skid row. And some even found ways to thrive, making the best of things and scraping together a living at the fringes of society. Such seems to be the case with our lucky young mystic....

@ Stardust: I don't see any problem with switching out Knowledge (Dungeoneering) for Appraise.

@ Jodokai: Sorry I missed you. That is some good flavor right there. I'll have to do some world building, but that's a good thing. There are Changlings, but I would keep the change to a half-elf. That gives me a chance to work that in a little earlier than I otherwise would be able to.

@ Chainmail: Aasimars are fine, as are Changelings, I just need to know if you are withdrawing Bumbir.

Do you accept stuff from the adventures armory?

such as feats and gear
