NPC guard / hirelings

So I'm a little confused as to the proper price for a PC to Hire a NPC to guard a particular area/ town guard. In core it says 3 sp/ day for a trained hireling, covering guards. In Ultimate equipment 1-3 gp per day. and in jade regent it says 100gp per month. How should I price out guards?

Dave "Zeb" Cook used to have a rule of thumb when dealing with the rules of That Other Game. He said that the version of the rule which applied was in the last published source for it.

I only have the Core, so I checked the entry for trained hirelings. It says, (p 163.)"...This value represents a minimum wage; many such hirelings require significantly higher pay." Ultimate Equipment was published after the Core, so I'd say, as above, that price would apply. I don't know when Jade Regent was published, so I'm not sure about that.
