They agreed that they wanted, eventually, to found a town dedicated to the collection and distribution of knowledge. All the gods which revered knowledge and education would have temples, or at least elaborate shrines, and in the center of town would be a library to rival the greatest of legend. This effort would insure their place in the afterlife.
Additionally, they determined that, in time, they could branch into every town in the River Kingdoms, and even beyond. Each should have a smaller library of its own, the better to accumulate and distribute the knowledge of the world. The nature, quality, fees or tithes, and other details of those libraries would have to be negotiated with the local governments as conditions changed, but the Cæruxi would offer their services everywhere, regardless of political situation or differences of alignment.
In order to fill those libraries, and to prevent wasted duplication of effort, all of knowledge was broken down into seven Veils, or Choruses, (the terms are interchangeable) by how the knowledge could be gained: The Acts of Creation and Destruction; The Searches of Exploration and Contemplation; The Metamorphoses of Magic versus the Changes of Nature; and the Mysteries.
@Obakararuir - This was the basis of my opinion, mainly. Thus the "glorified librarians" remark. It's just hard to imagine a group with these goals surviving a rugged frontier like the River Kingdoms, or even wanting to come there, for that matter.
Maybe I'm thinking too much in terms of the Kingmaker AP. I know it's not the Veil's stated purpose to "take things over," or be "in charge" of the River Kingdoms. . . but that's kind of the point, right? I mean, why else would anyone choose to live in the River Kingdoms? If you're out here, you're probably either running from something, or you think you can carve out your own little fiefdom. Usually it's a bit of both, and that's why there are so many bandit kings.

I think we can manage to establish ourselves in such a manner to not incite hatred and be useful without ruling everything.
How delightful! It would seem assassins and librarians have much in common. I plan for my assassins to be like a drug in the River Kingdoms, and they say learning can be addicting too!

They might get away with it in their own strongholds, but if they come out looking for escaped slaves they might end up hearing a very heated discussion about the merits of slavery. For example they might end up forcibly restrained and overhear an argument about weather slavers should be killed outright, or crippled and left without food or water.

Every business venture has it's inherent set of risks. :)
Not that I think they'd ever put in the mechanics for slavery in PFO (although it's a well established part of the setting).

I need to do better advertising...
Openly, no. Remember that thread about everything being done through private messages? Or maybe you're asking about Tony's? Tony is just a breadmaker, he doesn't hire assassins. He might talk to assassins, but only because assassins like his bread so much more than other demographics.

From another thread:
My ideal is that the most powerful Kingdoms are those that have groups who specialize in combat (both PvE and PvP, and all the sub-flavors therein), harvesting, processing, and crafting, diplomacy, espionage, exploration, construction, and logistics.
Seems like an opportune moment to remind everyone that The Seventh Veil intends to be "Fully Engaged" in Pathfinder Online, with groups specializing in combat, harvesting, processing, crafting, diplomacy, espionage, exploration, construction, and logistics.
In fact, we're already up and running with our Diplomatic Outreach.
Interested parties might also divine which other areas of specialization are relevant pre-release.

I am a little late to the party, so to speak, life being as it can be from time to time.
However, having finally jumped on the Kickstarter Bandwagon, after reading up on the Pathfinder Online Tech Demo, and the whole concept ...
I have been waiting for something like this for a LONG time.
It's a combination of MU* meets MMO meets Organized Play/Living Campaign.
Having been a huge fan, and supporter of Living Greyhawk (okay, so just for the Nyrond area, but I know the others were great, too!) this is something that ... just rocks my boat, so to speak. Building a world, and building a character's place in it ... is something I crave in my roleplay.
Looks like I'll get cracking on my application for the guild!

So I've been checking into PFO for a while, keeping an eye on the blog and such, finally decided to look at these forums that I'd completely forgotten about for months after I'd signed up to get the little Ultimate Magic: Magus preview which was like..so long ago..jeez.
Anyway, I stumbled across this thread, read all of it and I must say I'm extremely attracted to it, but not in a creepy way I promise.
Reason A is because you guys seem really dedicated and serious about this and won't just fall apart in a few months, everything looks polished and well thought out which is something I've rarely found in any kind of group or guild, so yay.
Reason B is because the seeker of information philosophy would just fit in so well with my character concept, so much that I'm actually a bit irked that I took this long to find you guys.
And lastly, Reason C is because, like all of you, I'm really interested in contributing to the lore and creation of this game, as well as that chance to bring some brightness to such a dark place.
So with that I will be toss up an application soon. :)

There's some information on how and where to apply. Fill it out and submit it and after fielding some questions we'll give you our decision. It usually takes about a week or so.
As far as help goes, if you are accepted there are ongoing projects involving creative things and mechanical things that could always use more constructive input.

Welcome, wargamer :)
And a reminder to everyone else that our Diplomatic Outreach includes providing a space for you to organize your own Chartered Company on our forums, complete with your own member roster. This might be a good idea for small Companies, or those who aren't interested in devoting the time necessary to get a website up and running.
You'll find that The Seventh Veil is committed to building up and serving the community at large.

Just posting a copy here is case the other thread this brief is posted in gets buried.
Group Name: The Seventh Veil
Leader(s): The Council of the Cæruxi
Goals (OOC): The purpose of the guild is to collect lore and information about the Golarion world. Using (and remaining true to) the official Paizo lore, we intend to both expand upon what is visible in game, and reconcile the differences that will inevitably be found between the game and official lore. Ideally we will make in-game manuals/books about every aspect of the world including the flora/fauna, races, crafts, etc. Even if in-game books not possible, we will collect information and collate it in an out of game website. Most of this information will be accessible to the general public (we are developing a wiki toward this end), the Library of the Cæruxi.
Not only will we collect and document information on the interactive parts of the world, but also about the non-interactive. Examples of the non-interactive include plants and animals in the scenery, astronomy, geography, etc...all of this needs to be brought into alignment with what we already know about Golarion. By developing stories, theories and observations about this material, we make the world that much richer for every person in it. The scenery becomes a world and everything is given meaning and history.
The most important goal of our Company is the development of a good internal Community. As is very important in a sandbox, we are specifically structured to promote the proactive development of player run content and events for both the Company and to a much lesser extend the general community.
This purpose gives us reason to pursue every avenue of the game...as the most practical way to learn how to do something, is by doing.
Goals (IC): With ancient roots in the mutable First World, we believe the world is a powerful layered illusion which can only be disbelieved when enough of the world is experienced to realize something is amiss. To this end, we attempt to experience everything and come from/move into all walks of life.
While it may seem contradictory to hold Sivanah as a patron while trying to unravel the mysteries of reality, in actuality we have found that as each layer of knowledge is “peeled away”, we find deeper riddles beneath. The actual goal of the Cæruxi is not the acquisition of knowledge, but access to the ever greater mystery.
Group Website
Alignment: True Neutral with a slight lean toward Good.
Type of Group: We will pursue every aspect of the game that members are interested in.
Scope: We intent to grow as much as possible without becoming an aggressive Company.
Structure: The Seventh Veil is broken down into distinct groups, called Choruses, specializing in the finding and sharing of specific areas of information, each area of knowledge called a Veil. As previously mentioned, the way we intend to find the most efficient methodologies is through trial and error - by actually doing. The exact function of each of these sub-groups are flexible based upon the needs of the company, evolving as necessary.
The executive Council is comprised of representatives of each Chorus, sets the focus and direction of the collective, and is itself bound by the laws outlined in our charter, the Cærux.
Members: We are looking for anyone who wants to assist with fleshing out the corner of Golarion we are being offered. Toward this end, we are looking for people who want to spend some time both in game and out developing material (in-game, online, and/or hardcopy, we can always scan) that can be made available not only to our members, but to the general community. We are looking for artists, poets, writers, authors, and creative people in general.
However, we in no way simple scholars. To be at the cutting edge of purpose and function, we intend to strive the be the best at those functions. Among the roles some of our Choruses will perform that will not likely change is Combat (PvP/PvE), Trade (Commerce/Shipping), and Crafting (Crafting/Harvesting). We need people who are interested in becoming the best in these areas, helping us continually push the limits on currently known efficiency, performance, and organization.

If you joined us early on, when there wasn't a whole log going on, I encourage you to stop by our forums again. We've had a significant influx of new members and we've reached the critical mass necessary to sustain a vibrant community. The leadership has been busy creating Projects we could use your help on, and we've also got a poll up asking for everyone's input on choosing a placeholder game we can get together on while we wait to get into PFO.

Is recruitment still open for this company? I believe PFO may be the "holy grail" of MMOs I've been searching for, and the character I've decided on starting with fits with this company much more than any of the others I've seen. He's a bookish, dwarven Pathfinder scribe, sent to the River Kingdoms to study and chronicle the area, as well as help facilitate the creation of a lodge for his uncle, a high-ranking Society field agent. Back-story aside, I was wondering if you were still accepting applicants for this excellent organization.

![]() |

Is recruitment still open for this company?
Always!
The only reason we would close recruitment would be if the end-game content was all about fixed-size raids. That's not the case, so I don't think there will ever be any reason for us to stop recruiting.

We are, and we would love to have you apply at khaiognos.org.

I'd like to remind the community that The Seventh Veil is a Chartered Company that will be fully engaged and will "have groups who specialize in combat (both PvE and PvP, and all the sub-flavors therein), harvesting, processing, and crafting, diplomacy, espionage, exploration, construction, and logistics." (All traits Ryan Dancey listed as being characteristic of "the most powerful Kingdoms").
There are also a number of other announced Chartered Companies, most of which are compiled in my Welcome to all the new folks.

Idea: Since this company is all bout gathering knowledge and these forums are A: crap for making a FAQ/Info thread and B: not to overwhelmingly big, wouldn't be a good idea to make a thread on 7thV's forum on Dev posts? Like a collection of direct quotes from Ryan and the others about the state of the game and design goals that go beyond the blog?

![]() |

@Waruko, it would be a monumental task to manually re-post all of Ryan Dancey's posts over there. The only way a Dev Tracker really works is when it's automated. Hopefully Goblinworks will get their own forums up and running before long; they've already expressed an interest in starting a Dev Tracker, but it's just not possible here.
As for other things we might be able to do on our forums, I imagine that might come up at our next Founders' Meeting :)

wouldnt necessarily have to be reposts
just keep categories and when a dev posts something you can enter the info (paraphrased) under that category
sort of a "What we know"
categories could be:
PVP
Economy
Classes/Races
Crafting
Player Buildings
Skymetal Bits
Guilds/Chartered Groups
etc
etc
etc
