How would I do a "Ghost Whisperer"

Advice

Silver Crusade

How would i do a "Ghost Whisperer" type character in Pathfinder?

Someone who can perceive ghosts communicate with them, and help them solve their problems
so that they can move onto Pharasma's boneyard?

Thanks

An Oracle of Bones would be cool,or even an undead lord cleric..;

The way I've made a good-aligned undead lord is this:The cleric raises only evil souls to give them a second chance in life by doing good things for the cleric.

You'll probably want to be an Oracle or Cleric with some form of speak with dead, and spells that will protect you from the undead (Protection from Evil, Hide from Undead, Hold Undead) without directly harming them. You may want to help ghosts, but some ghosts may not be onboard with that and you'll need to guard yourself against possession and protect against the possibility of mindless undead just trying to take a bite of your delicious brains.

Cleric with the Repose domain, or Oracle with the Ancestors mystery would fit.

An alternative could be an inquisitor with the Repose domain (or the associated Ancestors subdomain). I could see that being a pretty neat concept, but mechanically it has fewer tools for protecting against undead or communicating with them and more tools for just killing them.

Inquisitor sin eater. Not a friend of ghost, but very interesting.

I would check out the super genius death mage base class. Primarily because of these 3 abilities:

Voice of the Dead (Su): At 2nd level, the
death mage’s ability to hear and understand
spirits of the dead is developed enough to
allow her to speak in this tongue as well. As
the spirits themselves are mindless, talking
to them serves no purpose (though many
death mages do so anyway). Death mages
may use the language to understand and be
understood by undead creature (all of which
know the voice of the dead as a language,
even if it is not listed), and to communicate
with each other. Additionally, language is
no longer a barrier when the death mage
uses a speak with dead spell.

Secrets of the Dead (Su): At 5th level, the
numer of spirits talking to a death mage,
and the secrets they constantly whisper to
her, takes a major upswing. As a result, the
death mage may add her class level to any
Knowledge check regarding a dead person
or creature, necromancy, places where
people are buried, or ceremonies regarding
the dead.

Wisdom of the Grave (Sp): At 10th level,
as a standard action, the death mage may
ask a single question of any creature that
has been dead for no more than one round.
This functions like a speak with dead spell,
though the death mage is allowed only a
single question.

This trait is 3rd party I think, but probably easy to incorporate into your game if your DM is willing.

There is a class in the soon to be released Fall issue of Kobold Quarterly that might be of interest.

Actually, if all goes well and the stars align, there might also be a class in the Fall issue that might also be of interest :)

Based on your thread title? Just call her. She seems desperate enough...

thank you all for your suggestions. Ill check out the death mage, and ill keep my eyes open for the next kobolt quarterly.

Yes i was thinking of the "ghost wisperer" i saw a couple of shows, enjoyed them, and thought it would make for an interesting character concept.

a haunted oracle might be an interesting idea too.

thanks
