Its sad. I may hate Apple, but I do think Steve Jobs was a mad genius.

Maybe it's because I live a few miles from Cupertino (not to mention a few miles from his house in Woodside), but I've been mourning his passing for several hours now.

Apple donated a bunch of Apple IIs to my junior high way back in the day, and that was the first programming I ever learned.

I've been pretty much a lifelong fan since then. I'll miss him. I work very closely with our Apple rep at my job, and MacWorld is a big yearly event for us. I've been really lucky to live where I have all these years and always be right where the news of some new innovation got leaked out first.

Mr. Jobs was a major presence around here. Again, I'll miss him.

I've never actually owned an Apple product (though I don't have any ill will towards the company), but whether you're an Apple fan or not you gotta give Steve Jobs mad props. He was a giant in American industry, technology, and popular culture since the 80s. He'll be missed.

I may not be a Mac fan, but I certainly felt it in my gut when my wife told me he died a few minutes ago. He was an example of American exceptionalism, and a true giant in the industry. Oh man. Rest in peace, man.

Mac fan or not, we all owe the forward thinking of this man...it was his creative drive and forward thinking that changed forever the concept of how we, the masses, receive our news, our entertainment, and our interactions...at the beginning stages of the internet we know today, it was Steve Jobs' company paving the way. When the music industry was dying under it's own bloated system, Jobs' company again revolutionized the standard. Bringing the IPhone, the IPod, even the IPad has set the bar, broken the mold, and challenged the standard to grow and expand. Yes, there are thousands of employees working for his companies developing these items, but they did it all following his lead, and his dream. Steve Jobs was a man who understood where technology was going, and wasn't afraid to try and get there first. The world lost a Dreamer today, and I doubt it even realizes the scope of that loss.

Ditto.

Rest in peace, you magnificent bastard.

I was very sad to hear this last night.

He was one of the drivers of technology - whether you liked apple's products or not - and I think the industry as a whole will suffer with the loss of this visionary.

Here's to the crazy ones.

Rest in Peace Steve.

Its hard to overstate the impact he has had on the whole world. The apple 2 pretty much defined what a personal computer would be. Heres hoping he is remembers for his accomplishments for a very, very long time.

"All men dream: but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake in the day to find that it was vanity: but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act their dreams with open eyes, to make it possible." – T. E. Lawrence

Rest in peace Steve Jobs.

Rest in Peace, Mr. Jobs, and rest knowing that you changed the world.
