Scarab Sages

I keep hearing around the table at PFS events that if you have a magical weapon of +X amount, you can overcome certain DR's that are overcome by weapons made of certain materials (example: "If your magic sword has a +3 modifier, you can overcome DR adamantine).

However, I've reviewed the book extensively, and cannot find the page where this rule is shown. Does anybody know which book & page this rule is located on?

CRB p.562 Overcoming DR

1 person marked this as a favorite.

It's from the Core book, in the glossary for DR. Not sure actual page number at the moment.

Overcoming DR: Damage reduction may be overcome by special materials, magic weapons (any weapon with a +1 or higher enhancement bonus, not counting the enhancement from masterwork quality), certain types of weapons (such as slashing or bludgeoning), and weapons imbued with an alignment.

Ammunition fired from a projectile weapon with an enhancement bonus of +1 or higher is treated as a magic weapon for the purpose of overcoming damage reduction. Similarly, ammunition fired from a projectile weapon with an alignment gains the alignment of that projectile weapon (in addition to any alignment it may already have).

Weapons with an enhancement bonus of +3 or greater can ignore some types of damage reduction, regardless of their actual material or alignment. The following table shows what type of enhancement bonus is needed to overcome some common types of damage reduction.
DR Type Weapon Enhancement Bonus Equivalent
cold iron/silver +3
adamantine* +4
alignment-based +5
* Note that this does not give the ability to ignore hardness, like an actual adamantine weapon does

Just out of curiosity: When fighting a creature with DR xx / silver and good... will a +5 weapon be enough for both requirements, the +5 being able to overcome alignment prerquisite, and being more than the +3 needed for bypassing the silver entry... or do I actually need the sum of both prerequisites, resulting in a +8 necessity?

satisfies both.

Side question, the Feat Eldritch Claws states that it makes your natural weapons be considered as magic and silver for overcoming DR.

Now I've always ruled it as if the DR says x/magic or x/silver or both it bypasses that.
With these rules I've been asked what +x value does Eldritch claws grant for it's magic ?

Is it equivalent to a +1 or a +5 or anything in between?

It isn't equivalent to any bonus, simply bypasses DR/magic. Nothing more, nothing less.
