Cairn is complete and ready for review! Definitely let me know if I took too much license with background and/or if it will work/not work/necessary edits/etc. Victoria should be happy at least... wink wink nudge nudge...

I am afraid all this good rolling is leading up to another bad roll for our glass canary.

Yah it synced up pretty good and makes Kabal feel much more of a tank.

I think you could either run into Jo who went to the academy or into Victoria when she leaves the witches (which would make more sense, since Jo only arrived when the Rag Man's first incarnation was already dealt with)

A friend of mine posted this quote on her facebook account:

"If you're against gay marriage, just be honest, put a scarlett 'H' on your shirt and say, 'I am a homophobe!'"
-Henry Rollins

Her fiance's friend aka Pedantic Jacka$$ wrote this in response:

"Wow. I support gay marriage, but treating people who don't like they're scum is a good way to never, ever have civilized discussion on the issue.

Especially considering that we - that is, the supporters of gay marriage - do not have history on our side. Before forty years ago, NO ONE thought that gay marriage was even a thing. This includes the Greeks and Romans, for whom gay sex was culturally preferential to hetero sex. They just didn't marry each other.

No one ever made a solid intellectual point by saying 'everyone in human history before me was a horrible bigot.'"

And long story short, now we're in an argument in which he's calling me childish because I refuse to pander to bigots.

Well in all fairness, perhaps your friend is kinda right, there isn't a historical precedent - Two thousand years ago the institution of marriage was wildly different to the legal framework and complexity that we have today, so the relevance is mitigated right there.

On the other hand, they were also far more advanced, like I mean, in Rome you could marry your horse and bang your sister (all the rage for Roman Emperors) and everyone was down with that. It wasn't really about bigotry, no one cared, and the reasons dudes didn't marry was that there was little reason to. That said, the Army of Lovers were a prime example of what would be called today a gay defacto relationship, except that they also were right into Pederasty.

So if your friend wishes to argue that Incest, Bestiality, and Paedophilia are all great examples to draw upon from the worlds history as a context in which to say Gay Marriage is 'unprecedented' then go right ahead.

To be frank, there is no civilised conversation on the issue. If two dudes (or chicks) want to get hitched then what has it got to do with me anyway and what right do I have to start getting involved and say no? I would accept an argument that says a Church doesn't have to give the marriage the tick, because hey 'their club, their rules' - but they don't have the monopoly on the institution of marriage, that belongs to the State, not the Church.

So to your friend, "Render unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's, and unto God the things that are God's"

If the old farts who make laws would get their heads out of their butts, they would recognize that Separation of Church and State should hold with marriage as well. If a Church does not want to marry same sex, that is their choice and due to freedom of speech, I can make fun of them for the intellectually challenged bunch of bigots they are. The State on the other hand should treat everyone equally. If we are going to give benefits to people who want to form a civil union, we should be required to offer them to any two people, same sex or different. The simple fact is that marriage is a religious institution. Legal benefits derived from wishing to live together is a civil institution - keep the damn things separate as they should be.

Fluid Inter-dimensional physically detached consciousness Roguish Healer/4

@Shifty (he's not a friend, don't even know him he's my friends fiance's friend) The thing that got me wasn't so much what he said initially, it was his reaction to my friends original post (the quote by Henry Rollins). I don't think her quote warranted his word/intent twisting reaction ("Wow. I support gay marriage, but treating people who don't like they're scum is a good way to never, ever have civilized discussion on the issue.") Seeing as she wasn't treating anyone like scum, and although I can see that the parallel to The Scarlet Letter indicates that homophobic people should be looked down upon (thus treated like scum [which I don't totally disagree with but that's not the point here]) I don't think that it was what the quote really mean to portray, as the full quote (which was only posted in partial) says (as far as I can determine from a basic Google search):

Rollins wrote:

“If I was gay, there would be no closet, you would never see the closet I came out of. Why? I would have burned it for kindling by the time I was 12. Because I know with all certainty in my mind, there is nothing wrong with being gay, and you know it.

“You always know the mark of a coward. A coward hides behind freedom. A brave person stands in front of freedom and defends it for others.
“Don’t hide behind the Constitution or the Bible. If you’re against gay marriage, just be honest, put a scarlet ‘H’ on your shirt, and say, ‘I am a homophobe!’”

That being said, my original response wasn't meant to be nice, it wasn't meant to be mean, it was meant to be honest:

Me wrote:
"No, homophobic people are just as bad as racist people and you had better believe that I'm going to treat a racist like they're scum."

What was meant by that, and I later explained is that I am of the mindset that any kind of discrimination whether it be against race, religion, age, disability, socioeconomic status et cetra is wrong, period. When someone talks to me or around me about someone of a different race, and they're using derogatory racial slurs, you can bet that I'm going to look at them like they've lost their damn minds. To me they have. To my friends and family, they have. The same goes for any other sort of "hate words" or "hate mentalities" and generally speaking, most people would think that my response was a normal response because our society has mostly come to accept that racism is wrong. Why should it be any different for "hate mentalities" against homosexuals? Even if society hasn't mostly come to accept that homophobic behavior is wrong (don't like the word homophobic, it isn't about irrational fear but hate) does not mean that I should treat it as if it isn't.

He is telling me that basically my attitude is childish and counter productive, has told me that:

Pedantic Jacka$$ wrote:

"What Henry Rollins is saying basically creates an equivalence between disapproving of gay marriage and adultery. The one is implied to be a sin as great as the other. You come to somebody with that, they're probably going to punch you in the mouth, and they would not be wrong to do it. Making accusations is not the way to bring people around. If you want to make a difference, this is what you say instead."

"It's true that marriage, for all of recorded human history, has been between a man and a woman. However, for most of that time, marriage was an ownership contract, a breeding arrangement, or a symbolic political union. In some parts of the world, it's still that way. However, today, in America, a marriage is a partnership between two people who love each other. The nature of marriage has changed a lot, and we need to change it just a little more, so that ANYONE'S love can be recognized in this way. Why shouldn't we? It's not like we haven't changed the rules before. Slavery? That's gone. Interracial marriage was okay, then it wasn't, and now it is again. We don't stone disobedient children to death any more. We think seafood is tasty. Our society has changed in so many great ways over the centuries, and people just like you have been proud to help it happen. Please, can't you help change it just a little more?"

(I told him also that I don't believe in the concept of sin, but homophobia was far worse than adultery in my book.)

From there I pretty much pointed out that he was using the same basic methods (even if subconsciously) to tell me that my ideals were wrong as what I would be doing by acting like the theoretical homophobic statements were wrong and not using his nice little speech to try to convince me that his way was better than mine. That I felt like his little speech would be pandering to a bad behavior, indulgent even, and I prefer assertion to pandering. He said I was belligerent and aggressive.

Anyway, it's just annoying at this point. As I mentioned before he's moved on to calling my ways childish and unproductive etc.

@Tirion That's pretty much my thoughts on the topic as well with the exception that I would like to point out that marriage has always been a social institution, in as much, it has commonly taken place in a religious setting with religious ceremonies but it is not simply a religious institution.

I'd like to see pseudo-intellectual man book himself a trip over to Afghanistan and then wander main street Kabul and run that line of 'this is what you say instead' to the local Taliban; he'd be heads off on AlJazeera by noon. He might need to get off that Unicorn and take off the fantasy rose coloured glasses of 'just be reasonable to unreasonable people'. That said, he seems MORE THAN HAPPY to advocate violence by some people against others (the ones he agrees with) when they are challenged, so maybe he's not naieve, maybe he's just a hypocrite.

If you step on THEIR toes you get a punch in the mouth, but they want YOU to play nice when they step on yours. Some days you just have to call a jackass a jackass.

Fluid Inter-dimensional physically detached consciousness Roguish Healer/4

Agreed. I've tried really hard not to just tell him hes a jackass (wasn't sure if the filter would nab that word but apparently it doesn't) but the stress from censoring myself and dealing with his obnoxiousness is about to crush me.

VC - Sydney, Australia

Then don't censor, just tell him to f&&k off. You don't owe him any explanations, and you aren't obliged to pander to his delicate sensibilities. Some people deserve to be offended.

Fluid Inter-dimensional physically detached consciousness Roguish Healer/4

Oh so very true, but I'd hate to create waves with my friend since this douche is her fiance's friend. Though she isn't too happy with him either over all this, but she's only talked to me about it in private instead of voicing her thoughts to the guy.

Wouldn't it be nice of this douchebag thought "Hey I'd hate to create waves with my friend since this person is my fiance's friend". So why do people accept HIM acting poorly, yet if YOU do it then somehow you are unreasonable and 'making waves'?

The problem with being a reasonable human being is that unreasonable people think they then get the right of way in any/all altercations.

So I say stuff him, tell him to 'go fly a kite'.

Updates might come a bit slow. My computer fell victim to a Virus that factually shut everything down - and while I was able to remove the maleware (even worse, a sort of driveby maleware - I didn't even need to download anything to get it, thus circumventing my anti virus software...) I was unable to access most of my computers basic functions, so I needed to reinstall windows.

That killed about 1 1/2 days of work from documents I didn't backup and it killed this day, since I need to get the pc running again and try to find most of my e-mail adresses again.

I am online again, at last and for now, but I have a heck of a lot more work to do the next day then I expected.

TR, never underestimate the value of calling a douche a douche, and never ever ever ever give a douche the right of way to avoid a 'scene' where people feel 'uncomfortable'. It's that oddball mindset prevalent in society about 'not upsetting the poor Muppet' and excusemongering on behalf of jerkoffs that allows them to do horrible things to other people. I bet Rome to a brick he wouldn't be running his mouth like that to a guy.

silver scrolltube (containing maps of Riddleport, Celwynvian and Devil's Elbow)
3 journals = Sebastian and Cat

VC - Sydney, Australia

Cat I'll start working out the loot table shortly.
I think there was other loot to pile up from the early stage of the island too, and the Noqual to work out a 'rate' on. AS well as the wine :p

There is also the matter of knowing what the cash reward is for killing Qweeg, and what the sum will be for the sale of the ship.

DMZZ:
Is the Island+Noqual issue 'dealt with', or can we farm more/sell stakes etc?

How much was the reward for Qweeg

Do we get to sell the ship, and if so for how much?

Any other financial loose ends?

- I assume that once Winter says goodbye to the Birdwoman and Friendly ghost we can bail the island, and that there are no other financial matters for me to consider?

It would be great to cash in the chips of the Island haul - its been going on for ages and now its time for civilisation!

Fluid Inter-dimensional physically detached consciousness Roguish Healer/4

Bree could use some of the +1 bolts as well.

VC - Sydney, Australia

I assume they are Handcrossbow bolts, as opposed to regular sized.
Bree you still need them on that basis?

As to consumables like potions, I don't include them in wealth splits, we just pass them around as party 'essentials'.

If that's what they are, then no. Neither would Sable, I don't believe. We both just use the light crossbow.

Sebastian will pass on the +1 rapier but will hang onto the +1 longsword from the pirates earlier. He is currently wearing a +1 mithral shirt so will pass on the armor too, so that is there for Cat or Bree. Other than a potion, (and of course the books) there is little that interests Sebastian. The cloak of course would be nice but I think Sable should get that.

I didn't even know it existed. I just looked it up, that's kinda cool. I probably wouldn't use it because I don't always use the same card when making purchases online. I have a couple of credit cards, but I also use a moneycard, which is basically a prepaid credit card. Whatever amount of money you put on the card, is whatever amount you can spend. I use it instead of a checking account, though I'm thinking of getting one this semester.

Credit cards aren't as common in Germany and, payments for Paizo aside (which one of my players and dear friends is kind enough to process for me) are hardly necessary in Germany, even for online shops.
