Whoah. This new spell from Ultimate Magic totally SCREWS archers at levels 9+.

Raving maybe you didn't get the memo -- but the OGC folks have specifically asked that you not reference the work area for the time being, so they don't have to move all that off site to finish the work and thereby slow down progress.

Ewwww. Me not like. That said, PCs can also use it to totally screw over any encounters the DM puts together that rely on ranged enemies. Blech. Time to start looking for good counters to this...

I'm getting tempted to go in and add some

Huh? Where was that?

Sure, I'll stop.

Here's an excellent counter. Don't use it in your games.

It was in the "Ultimate Magic: I Has It!" Thread. I don't mean rudeness with this in any way -- I just figured you didn't know yet.

I think that's a fine spell, actually. As a DM, it wouldn't bother me if the 9th-level party uses a spell to avoid getting hit by arrows and bolts. By that level, archer ambushes should be trivial to defeat/avoid. And if one isn't meant to be trivial, then dispelling is always an option.

Not in the habit of trying to get things I don't like thrown out of games I'm in/run. Adds more challenge for the archery-inclined. I just don't like it from the viewpoint that I like to play archers. It's going to be annoying if this is all I see as an archer character though (although I've never had people just toss Wind Wall in every fight either, so I doubt it will change things much). It's all good, though. I'll throw down in melee!

So it's a better version of Wind Wall, which already screwed archers at level five. Aaaand? ^^

I really didn't know. Thanks for pointing it out.

Your typical archer can't simply walk around a Fickle Wind spell (which follows the targets around what's more).

Wind Wall could be maneuvered around and hurt you too.

This doesn't, specifically targets the archers, and allows no save throw.

Unless they've changed the wording in the two hours this thread has been in existence, no it doesn't -- this is a defensive buff you give you and your allies. Missile attacks they make go out just fine; only incoming is stopped.

True so in that case:

It is 'much better' because it protects all your allies with no chance to screw them up at all.

TWF ranger runs into arch-nemesis archer ranger. Oh, yeah!

Archer ranger pulls out a two-hander and still beats the TWF ranger.

Only if he's built for it (possessing Power Attack and the like).

Archery is rather feat intensive, so he may not have such feats.

LOL!

Liberty's Edge

Any non-small race archer worth a crap has a STR in excess of 13, and probably considerably so. They've had at least some experience with opponents who like to sunder bows or are immune to piecing. -- Hell yeah they got Power Attack.

No see every now and then a wizard would get hurt so

It does not screw over giants w/ boulders.
