My first game of Pathfinder was back in December '10, I used a pre-gen character and hastily took a faction to get in the game. When I finally made my own, I decided on a completely different faction based on how I wanted to play the character. I didn't realize that when I put in the info on Paizo for that first game, that my faction was stuck that way.

Anyhow, I asked about it and was directed to Mr. Hyrum Savage and it was changed within a couple of days. That means a helluva lot to me, even if it is something so minor. I bet the folks at WoTC don't interact on the same level that people like Jason and Hyrum do with their customers. I find that awesome!

I love it and look forward to many happy years playing with Paizo. Now if I could only talk them in to moving to the Atlanta area so I can work for them. :)

I, too, am impressed with the personal involvement the Paizonians show with their products and customers. Paizocon '09 showed me how nice they all are, and their passion for their products. I remember Lisa talking at a seminar, and her enthusiasm for what she does really impressed me.

You just won't get that from disinterested "suits" just looking at the bottom line.

I don't doubt that WotC has many devs who care about their games, too, but they answer to the megacorp. Paizo has a lot of persnickety gamers to please, and they do it pretty durn well.

+1 to both of these posts.
I think that Paizo has the most responsive staff I've ever seen in an organized play campaign. They really seem to take players' opinions into account when making decisions. I love that.

A very nice thread.

4 years ago at Gen Con, my brother took me over to the Paizo booth. There was a nice guy there who took a few minutes to talk me about their products, including the new "Burnt Offerings", but also took the time to joke around and talk more generally about the convention and gaming.

It was over a year before I realized he was the VP of Paizo.

Since then, the way that they have treated their community and volunteers has been top notch. It's part of why you see people running 10 slots at a convention - you're volunteering for people who care about their game and the people who play it.

Yup, yup, yup. I don't spend a lot of time on the message boards here, but almost every thread I have looked through, a Paizo staff member has been there. And I'm not just talking customer service people (that rock I am sure). A Creative Director, Developer, Technical Director in one thread talking to players, fuhgeddaboudit, WoTC gots nuthin' on deez boyz!

Thanks for the kind words Don. :) Glad I could help and all of us here are truly grateful for the Paizo fans!

Wait until Auntie Lisa's Story Hour at Paizocon this year. :) Should be fun to talk about my 25 years in the biz!

Until you described all the awesome products you've had your hand in over that time, I had no idea you were at the epicenter of practically every major development in the gaming industry in those 25 years. It's simultaneously astounding and very, very cool. And the coolest part? You're still breaking new ground. The best is always yet to come. :-)

Ha! I meant every word.

My experience at GenCon 2009 was the event that cemented Paizo in my mind. It was the release of the Core Rulebook and the line was INSANE!!! It wrapped around the booth and down the isle, blocking many other booths, including WotC which I found humorous.

Two Paizonians (Lisa and SKR?) started walking the line and took cash payments for the books so you could jump out of the line. I had never seen that from other major publishers before. Saved many of us hours waiting in line. It was great!

There are several videos on YouTube of that line. I spotted myself and my two buddies in a couple of them.

That was my first GenCon, and I made the trip for that very reason: to support the launch of what I felt was the "true inheritor" of the D&D legacy. I wanted to support Paizo in this endeavor, and I wasn't the only one! I was signed up for the 8AM slot to make Pathfinder characters, and while we were pouring over the details of the final version of the rules, none other than Jason Bulmahn himself wanders over, shakes my hand, and chats up the table. Later on, I was able to get nearly every member of the Paizo staff to sign my copy of the core rules.

Very awesome indeed.

This is what I absolutely love about Paizo. How many other companies have the CEO pop out onto the forum and give a shout out?

Pfft. That's one of the reasons I paid for the VIG package in 2009. I got into the dealer hall an hour early. :-)

Or just onto their own forums? Before I joined these forums, I hadnt ever seen that before.

Anyway, on topic, I too appreciate the level of dedication you guys (and girls) provide. *starts a slow clap*

There are usually videos taken by the fans of these various seminars and such. So what happens at Paizocon usually doesn't stay at Paizocon. :)

While I've always been an entrepreneur, evening running for pay neighborhood carnivals, zoos, concerts and of course, lemonade stands, my gaming career didn't start until I graduated from college. Yep, I am THAT old. :)
