There is an explosion of red mist as the fleing goblin is neatly bisected in two. One half lands in fron of a mangy dog who promptly picks it up and scampers into the milling crowd; the other half, including the still grinning head, lands in the lap of an elderly lady, still obviously thinking that this is some staged part of the festival.
"Ooh, look Hettie," she says, gently prodding her dozing sister, "Look, isn't that sweet - they're throwing little goblin dolls out into the crowd for the children...who'd have thought hey? Oh dear, this one seems to be broken... I can remember, when we were young girls..."

Ezren scans the crowd looking for signs of more goblins. Seeing no more he drops the tip of his cane to the ground, to facilitate its more common use, and begins picking his way through to the others. "Odd... only three of the things? I would have expected more. So few to attack so many?" Shaking his head he walks over to the bard, "That was quite a performance. Your countersong, as it were, seemed quite... inspirational." He settles in, both hands resting on his cane. "Ezren Tempest, traveling scholar, at your service."

Ensu will check to see if there are any wounded that needed tending to, than take a moment to observe the person whose tried to sing down the goblins before joining in any conversation with him, content to let his companions do the talking for now.

M Dwarf Ranger 1

Harsk strides over to the nearest goblin corpse, hacks up a big wad of phlegm, and spits violently on the cadaver.

"Vile things. Never much known for good sense, but you're right Ezren. It seems a bit odd."

As you look around, you now come to realise that these three goblins were not alone, but were in fact part of a larger group. Getting your breath back you notice a goblin menacing a small puppy with his dogslicer. The puppy darts away down a nearby alley, the goblin following, cackling maniacally. A second later, the laughter turns into a scream of terror as the frantic goblin bolts out of the alley, chased by a pack of stray dogs.

Looking up you see a stealthy goblin sneaking along the roofline of a nearby building towards an unsuspecting victim below. As he climbs down onto a second story windowsill, the window is flung open and a chamberpot is emptied out of it, knocking the poor goblin into the street. A maid with very thick glasses looks out the window, "Stupid pigeons."

All of a sudden there is a rumbling behind you and a huge keg of beer comes trundling past, at some speed, a Goblin riding on top of it. The barrel careens into the wall of the cathedral, smashing the barrel of ale and scrambling the brains of the goblin.

Once more, you hear the eerie wailing cackle of a goblin song raise above the confused noise of the townsfolk...

"You will cry and you will moan
Goblins come into your home
Goblins hide where you can’t hear
Goblins pounce and bite your ear

Goblins hide when longshanks come
Goblins smart and you be dumb
Goblins hide where you can’t see
You can’t run and you can’t flee

You will scream and you will run
Goblins chase you down for fun
Goblins hide where you can’t spy
Goblins snatch and gouge your eye

Goblins creep and Goblins crawl
Goblins come when baby bawls
Goblins hide where you can’t find
Upon you flesh we goblins dine"

Grog yanks his axe free from the earth with a grunt. "Slippery little weasles...Good shooting!" He hollars to Harsk, then begins looking for opportunities to bloody his blade with something a little more...bloody, and a little less, soily...

Male Human (Taldan) Wizard 1

"Pardon me lad... it seems we are not finished here yet." He turns from the bard and raises his cane pointing it at one of the goblins (idealy the one on the barrell if it isn't dead on my turn, but any goblin will do). Suddenly the cane launches from his hand spinning end over end as it flys toward the goblin.

"Looks like we got some slingin' to do. Let's git these varmints. Yaa!"

Seeing as the first wave of goblins has struck, she hears the song of further goblins. Mattie sets out onto ther streets on her mount. Her sling is whirring, ready to fling out a headcracker on the next little bugger she sees.

Ezrens cane flies true but the goblin is already dead, killed when its barrel crashed into the cathedral wall.

Mattie, from her vantage point atop her mount sees a sudden explosion of fire a few streets away south of the cathedral.

Male Human (Taldan) Wizard 1

I blame sleep deprivation for not noticing that the goblins brains were all over the ground. I suppose I was just to excited at the proposition of knocking the little bugger off of the barrel!

As quickly as it struck Ezren's cane flys back to his outstretched hand. "Something tells me he is quite finished..."

With that he will, as soon as he is able, go on the defensive. Focusing his energy into the magical field surrounding his body, he fortifys the magical protection.

[ooc]Going full defensive: AC 18

Miss Mattie takes off towards the fire, but will seek to reign in and approach cautiously when she gets closer to the commotion.

M Dwarf Ranger 1

Of course there are more! There are always more...

Cursing under his breath, Harsk pauses to reload his heavy crossbow, then moves out in the direction of the newest round of singing goblin voices.

Male Human (Chelaxian) Fighter Lvl 2

Gallus give his glaive a sharp snap to remove the goblin ichor from the steel blade. He then turns and sprints headlong towards the direction of the explosion.
He shouts towards Galstok as he runs off.

"Looks like something more then speeches eh? Let's see if we can find some more fun"
A grin touches the corners of his mouth as he speeds off.

Perception 1d20+4

Ensu now also notices the column of smoke that climbs into the sky, to the South of the cathedral.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

As you all dash towards where the smoke is rising from you can see various fights breaking out between the people of Sandpoint and throngs of vicious, blade wielding goblins. Although there seem to be hundreds of the creatures, the villagers, armed with anything to hand seem in many places to be giving as good as they are getting, after the initial suprise of the attack.

You round a corner, and see that the smoke is rising from a large cart that contained all the wood for this evenings festival bonfire. A group of goblins has found the cart and have lit it on fire. As you near the cart, you are suddenly confronted with several cackling and shrieking goblins armed with dogslicers and torches. The goblins
see you and shriek in delight.

Behind the four goblins, you see a fifth creature. This goblin is slightly larger, but still not much over 4' tall. You think it may be a female of the species as well. She is wielding a barbed whip in one hand and carries a large doglsicer in the other. A bow is strapped across her back. As she sees you she starts up with another song

"Stifle the baby wrap it in togs
Feed it flesh of the longshank dogs

When it cries and wants to eat
Let it fight for a tasty treat

If the thing should fail and die
Let the next one have a try

If it wants to eat again
Throw a rat into its pen

Soaked with blood in its cage
Poke and pinch it to enrage

Then give it a blade or sharp razor
And let it play with the prisoners"

Can players roll initiative order. The goblins go on a 3!

As soon as possible Ezren will shift his position in order to catch as many goblins as he can (hopefuly to include the large one).

"Give me room to work a spell!" He shouts, his right hand already moving in a dazzling pattern. His cane begins to glow as it becomes the focus for the energy he is about to unleash. He dips his hand, deftly, into a pouch at his side tossing a pinch of colored sand as he barks the command, "aspergo-inis versicolor-oris". The sand ignites with magical energy as a vivid spray of clashing colos springs forth from the end of his cane.

You dont see any obviously wounded in the area, but there are quite a few villagers sitting around looking dazed and confused.

Matty reigns in to 50' range. Seeing the cackling she-goblin with the bow she says, "I'll make your day, little fathead b#&%$!", and launches a bullet right to her big noggin!

If Matty is within 50' before her move action she shoots first before moving. If not she will try to ride to flanking position within range behind some cover if possible. Then she will reign in and shoot from there (trying to get within 30' for the sneak attack if at all possible).

Hmm, perhaps the goblins song is affecting them. Kendrick will move to where he can affect the most people (within a standard 30' move), then he will change the tenor of his tune to countersong.

People of Sandpoint make your choice
Do not hear the goblins voice

People of Sandpoint fighting free

Ignore the goblins, it's battle time

People of Sandpoint your minds are clear
It's just goblins, nothing to fear

Gallus moves toward the nearest goblin, glaive raised high and brings it crashing down into the shoulder of the creature, nearly bisecting it. He spins the blade, freeing it and rocks back on his feet, awaiting any of the greatures that may try to flee.

Grog starts to move in a wide arc around the goblins, trying to flank them and also drawing some of their attention.

Mattie has made her way to a flanking position and seeing the Warchanter, begins to spin her sling before releasing a bullet that flies true, hitting the female goblin just behind the ear. The creature lets out a yelp and turns to angrily see where this new attack has come from.

Kendrick pick up with a song to attempt to counteract any harmful effects that the warchanters vile singing has brought.

Harsk stomps onto the scene and imediately seeing a viable target, drops to one knee, snaps off a shot and sees his bolt take one of the goblins cleanly through the throat, killing it instantly.

A vivid and scintillating burst of colour bursts toward the goblins from Ezren, catching the remining creatures within power. The two remaining goblins topple over 1d20 - 1 save (10-1=9) into the dirt. The Warchanter shakes her head and with a cry follows her minions onto the ground. 1d20 +3 save (7+3=10)

Ezren seems humbled by the attentino of the cheering towns folk. Without speaking he simply bows and walks over to stand by Harsk. "I know goblins are not known for an over abundance of sanity but... to attack a town the size of Sandpoint when everyone in residence is in the same place... and with so few attackers." He pauses, raising a hand to his chin. "This just seems too far gone even for a goblin. I am not one for conspiracy theories, but I cannot shake the feeling that there is something more going on here than a simple raid..." he lets his voice trail off as he contemplates the details of the attack.

As you all gather your wits, you note that the locals are now starting to come out of there hiding places. Doors to shops open, shutters are pulled back to reveal anxious faces. Here and there, you can still hear the sounds of battle, the clanging of swords on dogslicer, calls of support by the town guard, and the shrieking and singing of goblins still echo's through the streets, but at the festival site itself, all is relatively quiet now. One or two goblins remain behind to scavenge food, and many more lie dead (along with a few unfortunate citizens). You spot several teenage children with a goblin cornered by a building. It hisses and snarls at them as one of the teenage boys sets his dog on it, much to the amusement of the group.

A Goblin carrying arm fulls of horse shoes runs through the street, yelling in goblish, "They'se my trophieses! Bugby killseds me these horsies! Bugby the bravestest!" The creature suddenly runs smack into the back of a large stallion which promptly kicks the little creature high into the air and it dissapears, screeching over a wall. The rider of the horse winks at Mattie. It is the owner of the Goblin Squash stable, Daviren Hosk. "Evening Mamm."

Just then, a goblin with a torch and a wooden flask charges round a corner. He sees you all and cackling evily, he lights the flask and tosses the torch toward you. There is an almighty explosion as bits of goblin rain down on you. All that is left is a smoking pair of boots.

"Bloody brilliant that was... as I said, not known for their abundance of sanity."

There is the sudden sound of a scream and a frantic barking comes from the north. The scream is most deffinately human.

Male Human (Taldan) Wizard 1

"It seems we are not through yet!" Lifting his cane Ezren begins moving off to the north. Well, my spell of armor is holding... and I yet have the power to hurl my cane! Ah, but the exertion of it all is getting to me. I am not used to expending so much arcane erergy in such a short duration! Ezren huffs as he continues on, envious of the youth of his companions as their legs carry them with ease toward the sounds. Just a little longer Old Man, you may still be needed!

Looking a little hurt that all the goblins are dead before he could make it to them Grog turns and starts walking back toward the group. His spirits brighten some to see the child's dog mauling one of the green skin.

Upon hearing the scream and barking he will take off to the north as well.

"Are we coming to the rescue of a woman or a man?" He askes once he catches up with Ezren.

Male Human (Taldan) Wizard 1

Huffing and puffing with the effort of his jaunt to the north Ezren replies, "I... know... not. We shall... see when... we... get there." With that, he goes silent and concetrates on putting one foot in front of the other. Oh, to be young again... or to know teleportation magic!
