This tiny little lass is determined to have her way, and usually gets it. Bright and discerning eyes, sharp tongue. Long, light brown locks. She sits her fine speckled, roan pony like she was born in the saddle.
She wears a new set of leathers, a sombero, a thick poncho - now all dusty from a long ride. She carries a spear. BACKGROUND:
As a young child Mattie lived among the saddleries and stables of Magnimar. Her Pa was the chief farrier for the local teamsters guild and a halfling of consequence in the city. Great men trusted their steeds to him. But a guildsman must aways choose his alliances carefully and tread softly among those with power, and Mattie scarcely knew the full business her Dad was in.
Mattie had been one of a large brood of rascals who lived about the stables. They came and went as they pleased....and snuck about as only halfling children can do. Sometimes they would get a tannin' for the troubles they caused, but Pa was respected and Mattie usually escaped the worst of the trouble. Then one day Pa was murdered by a no-good whoreson named Orik Vankaskerkin. The coward snapped Pa`s neck and trampled him underhoof in the dung of the corral - then he took off to the North. Mattie called on those pardners in the guild who had always supported her Pa in the past. But she quickly saw the fear in their yellow eyes. They wanted nuthin' to do with the man who took her Daddy's life. But she did manage to find out where they reckoned he was headed. Mattie realized that she must take justice into her own hands. She raided the guild stores for victuals, supplies and gear - and she rustled up a young speckled roan too...the prettiest one in the stable - leaving a sack of cash in the farrier's money box as a pony up. In the dark of the earliest hours of the morning she took to the saddle and rode like the wind northward, eventually hooking up with a caravan as a wrangler on her journey north.. Her destination: Sandpoint.

Mattie's town home was in the the stable yards of Magnimar, where the middle class halfling stableworkers and teamsters guilds had their shops. It was here she learned to ride. SKILLS AND LANGUAGES:
As a kid Mattie was left to roam the stockyards with the other kids. They enjoyed some protection because the local rackets left them to themselves for the most part. Activities included breaking into larders, "borrowing" hogs to race through the streets, slingin' turds at constables and other forms of good ol'-fashioned roguery. Her skills reflect that.

A light load for a pony is up to 100 pounds, a medium load is 101–200 pounds, and a heavy load is 201–300 pounds. A pony can drag 1,500 pounds. The statistics presented above are for a typical pony. Tougher ponies with the advanced simple template exist, but are relatively uncommon and, unlike horses, these creatures are not generally called “heavy ponies.” Like horses, ponies can be trained for combat with the Handle Animal skill, and such mounts often serve halflings, gnomes, and other small races as steeds in combat.
