What am I looking at for spell casting failure chance? is it lessened becuase i am prof. with light armor? do I need to get the feats that lower the % chance?

Having the proficiency to wear and the ability to cast spells in light armor does not effect the wearing or Spell Failure chance of medium armor. You would still need to take the feats to lower the arcance spell failure chance and would still suffer in % that was not covered by the feats.

I have always wished they had just had class abilities that allowed casting in armor to reduce the Spell Failure chance rather than saying light armor ok but medium not, etc.. It makes more sense to me. Though it is more open to abuse (Mithril Full Plate, etc...)

There are alot of rule that I wish they would make homogenous rather than having rules then having feats that work off those rules then having class abilities that negate the rules, etc....

The other option is to take Medium Armor Proficiency and wear Mithral medium armor. It'll count as light for purposes of arcane spell failure. (You need the Med Prof in order to not take ACP on attacks and such)

Theres Arcane Armor Training also for medium and Light armor.

With Mithril Breastplate, and the First feat. your spell failure rate is 5%.

Without Medium armor proficiency, he still takes ACP to attack rolls and skills that involve moving. He wouldn't have arcane spell failure on Mithral Breastplate either way.

Arcane Armor Training would help if he wanted non-Mithral medium armor. (still have ACP to attack/skills, though)

You need Celestial Chainmail. It is a special armor in that it is Chainmail (a Medium armor ac 6 base) but it is for all intents Light armor. No feats needed, better than Mithril.

That armor is the capstone for anyone stuck in Light armor.

The Character, i did the medium armor summoner thing with had the Trait which lowers ACP by 1. Pretty sure i had no Penalties despite no skill in medium armor. (or we were doing it wrong)

Also thought the Mithril Bp had a a Arcane spellfailure chance that wastt removed completely by Arcane armor training. (i didnt have the medium one which would have removed it)

but i could have been doing it all wrong.

A Mithral Breastplate has 15% Arcane Spell Failure, but a summoner can cast summoner spells while wearing light armor without incurring the normal arcane spell failure chance.

Mithral Breastplate counts as medium armor only for proficiency, not for ACP, ASF%, or movement.

If your summoner had a trait like Armor Expert, then he could wear a Mith BP with no penalties and no feats required. (the 0 ACP to attacks/skills, and no ASF due to light armor)
