Yeah, I prefer apple cider over apple juice. I don't touch the fermented stuff.

Same and Same.

That sounds less fun than finding the number of rectangles on a chess board of any size length from 1 to 8.

I bet the second word is 'oranges'.

The way it is used here is that cider is fresh-pressed, not that clear, reconstituted crap you get in stores. It's distinct from juice. Hard cider is fermented and alcoholic.

Dictionary definitions and colloquial usage are not always precisely aligned.

That and you can heat apple cider with a cinnamon stick on a stove and it turns out lovely..

The Wikipedia article seemed to concur that in the US and parts of Canada, "cider" is a non-alcoholic beverage, while "hard cider" is the fermented kind. In the rest of the world, "cider" is an alcoholic beverage and "apple cider" refers to the non-alcoholic beverage (or it is undistinguished from apple juice, which we can all agree is nothing less than a crime against apples).

Oh, I've had some good apple juice in my day. But it pretty much has to be freshly pressed, and made from the kind of apples we have growing up close to the limit of where they can be survive the winter (small, but oh so tasty).

Apples... Yum-yum.

The apple juice we have here is pressed, filtered, pasteurized, loaded with corn syrup and preservatives, condensed, shipped, reconstituted, bottled, and sold to the customer. I think our food industry is trying to kill us.

Oh, for a world in which the fresh squeezings of a blushing pomme are presented to us, cool and frothy, as 'apple juice'. What a heavenly land 'twould be!

Why bother with pressing juice from them? Better eat them whole. Or baked. Or braised with meat and/or onions. Or with meat and grapes. Or with meat and peaches. Or with meat and pineapple. Or meat, graps and peaches. And served with cranberries.

No Fill my life. Hey, I'm back for a post or two.

Sorry about the extended absence, but real life, job hunting, and unpaid medical bills makes for a poor substitute in the Pathfinder gaming scene.

So what's up and what's going on on the Paizo boards?

Good to see you, BP. Sorry to hear things have been rough. Are they settling down now?

Just about CH, Working two part times until the middle of March. But then I'll be stationed full time as a security guard at Burns Harbor then its 40+ hours a week. I got keep ahead on my bills however.

A good and long time friend of mine has introduced me to X-Box and the bullet riddled carnage that is Left for Dead 2. What a wonderful Zombie Apocalypse in New Orleans on less.

It's official, I love killing zombies now and the many ways it is done.

Hi, Blue Pigeon!

I'll probably check out the first issue.

I have nothing against apple juice. I drink it regularly.

That does, sadly, describe most of the juices here as well.

I must concur that apple cider (Non-alcoholic) heated on a stove with a cinnamon stick (or a cinnamon candy) is quite enjoyable.

Good night FAWTL-ies, Unfortunately I have to go to work in the morning.
(This should be illegal, or I should get paid a lot more, no OTHER college employee has to be there!);P

gripe-gripe-whine-moan g'night,...

Same here Rags, though it's nearly the whole office who's in for us.

It's kind of sad when you call an 8-5 Saturday "the short day this week".

hi everyone

ah, now things are clearer to me

in germany:

your cider: Apfelmost
freshly pressed, unfiltered, 100% juice, no alcohol

kajehase's cider / your hard cider:
Cider, Cidre or Apfelschaumwein
alcohol, sparkling, yeasty

Apple juice: Apfelsaft 100% juice, nothing added, filtered or unfiltered

apple juice with sugar or anything else added: Apfelsaftgetränk

Apfelwein
alcohol(7%) not sparkling, clear, golden, most delicious drink on planet
drunken in diferent ways:
pure
"sour-sparkled" = mixed with carbonated water
"sweet-sparkled" = mixed with sparkling citrus lemonade
"diesel" = mixed with cola
"triblet" = mixed with carbonated water and apple juice
in the traditional Apfelwein-Taverns in Frankfurt, they will throw you out if you order anything but pure or sour

in my State, Hessia, Apfelwein is the narional drink, many villages still have their own press house where you bring your apples and then get most, juice or Apfelwein

in winter time (at the cristmas markets) we drink our Apfelwein hot, with sugar, citrus and cinnammon
another variety is heated with a shot of Calvados added

A handy guide aeglos! "Diesel" sounds the most fascinating/horrid.

I have an interesting Hessian story for you. A good friend of mine is descended from Hessian stock. According to his family stories his people came over originally as mercenaries for the Revolutionary War. After it was settled, they decided they liked America and they settled down to farm. In the aftermath, it wasn't a happy thing to be a Hessian, so his ancestors used to claim they were Swiss to avoid any reprisals.

Worked until 6, went home and zonked at the computer for a couple hours watching YouTube Let's Plays and just kind of zombieing. Then about 9 PM learned from one of my players that he wouldn't be making Thursday Kingmaker sessions for several months due to school, and spent the rest of the night getting things arranged to move KM games to Fridays and starting up a placeholder game with some of the rest of the group on Thursdays.

Although, in truth, much like Dracula, I never drink wine.

I drink, but very rarely. In fact, the last time I drank was with you iirc Zombeh.

Now, Paizocon will be VERY interesting for me now that Washington has adjusted its laws to allow other intoxicants their day in the sun...
