Physical labor my a**. Ok, we are not actually doing much work recently. Half an hour of clearing an allay out of leaves and chestnuts is hardly a serious physical labor.

Back at work after 4 days off (two normal days off, two days vacation), and MAN! am I glad I took those days off. Apparently the computers were up-and-down for two days, we had a full house of kids, and from what I see in the log, everything went poorly. For instance, when you have 40 or so rooms of 8 to 10 year old kids, it would probably be a good idea to have a breakfast host on duty, right? Well, they didn't one for Friday morning, and then the one scheduled for Saturday morning flat-out didn't come in. Didn't call or nothing, just decided to skip. And, no, I don't think she'll get in trouble for it. Hell, she and the other hostess both just skip whenever they feel like it, and nothing ever happens to them so far as I can tell. So, glad I predicted something like this would happen (because this s*%* happens every time we have soccer kids) and took the days off.

That would still require a beefier moped than most I've seen.

Definitely sounds like good days to be off.

for Freehold, Tac, Heshvaun, and concerned fans of a galaxy far, far away (but you still might not wanna read it):
It cost me nothing but time (and probably a half-hour's pay since I'll be late to work in the morning), but a friend insisted I watch . . . that other movie the Bad People made. The one named for a Pathfinder class and the first positive whole number.

A resounding slightly-better-than-meh. Which means it's light-years removed from that . . . abor-- . . . abom-- . . . atroc-- . . . that thing They did a couple years back.

Final analysis: At least They tried with this one. Still got the feel-blands.

yes, it's capital "Bad People"/"They" -- all monolithic evils merit such: Satan, Sith, [redacted], etc.

The fact that Sissyl has been conspicuously absent for too long, and, knowing she's dealing with heavy grief, maybe *she* needs good pie more than anyone?

Or elephant number three, last seen on the cover of a Ten Thousand Maniacs album?

she does need pie, and support.

Sissyl has been posting in various forum games recently.

Which doesn't mean that pies would be unwelcome, of course.

Sorry I missed this. I have been absent, yes, but only in comparison to earlier. The grief is... mostly passivizing. I will gladly receive pies.

I did think the joke was obvious given the two aliases I used to make it... but I was talking about number three there, if any more confusion reigns.

Hey, I'm close enough to get Cap's pies. I mean, sure, that requires me to drive to Wisconsin, but aside from having to go through Rockford, South Beloit, Beloit, and Janesville it isn't that bad of a drive.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

What's wrong with those places?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

*hugs, Sissyl!*

(No pies because I don't have them, and if I'd made them from scratch, you definitely wouldn't want them!)

2 people marked this as a favorite.

Rockford is a cesspool, much like Chicago with slightly more corruption.

Beloit has been given over to gangs and hard drugs.

South Beloit is like Beloit, except in Illinois.

And Janesville is a battle ground between gangs and white supremacists over the meth trade.

They are all terrible places.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Is that why you became a worry-elephant?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Oh god no, I don't go to any of those places, despite having family in all of them, and being born in one of them.

So, basically, what Jessica Jones is telling me, is that I should, most-definitely make a character with continuous suggestion, mass spells (and a CL of 13 or so)? That's how I become the ultimate good-guy, right? Right? Yes?

Yes. I'm certain that is what that is telling me.

And even more importantly my ex-wife is from Janesville. I mean, that's much worse than everything CY laid out, right?

(No, no it's not, and there was a reason I married her in the first place.)

CY, did you delete a post referencing Indiana Jones?

Yes, I didn't like it, as it seemed kind of mean to exes.

Sometimes something sounds funnier in my head. :-)

I personally thought it was funny, but it's certainly your call to make. Really though, all ex-SO jokes are inherently mean. It's just a matter if it's over-the-top mean, and I personally didn't think yours was. Besides, it dealt with fictional characters.

Also, I'm at episode 8.

Spoiler:
I'd just suggest the ability to make evern self-destructive acts happen is that it's a "dire suggestion" that can cause such behavior in the same way remorseless charm could effectively "turn off" alignment.

It otherwise really does line up with a CL 13th suggestion spell; maybe ill omen, touch of chaos, and/or misfortune or something.

Or maybe a continuous irresistible burst complex order (dire) or something.

Also, arcane surge could help.

Anyhoo.

So, the *problem* with having a cushy work-from-home job with extremely flexible hours is that, on occasion, your boss actually requires you to, y'know, be there at a specific time working your tail off on a specific project.

And the people who are relying on you to be flexible can get really p****d off about it. (And possibly justifiably so.)

NobodysWife had a pre-treatment doctor's appointment this morning, so she asked whether I could drive her to BART when she got back. I said, "Sure!"
Cue my boss ripping into my labs and asking for all kinds of debugging help, so I was heads-down stuck to my screen for the next 2 hours.
So NobodysWife got home, asked for a ride, and I told her she'd have to drive herself, resulting in:
- Her having to park sticking into a red zone because of all the construction around the station, losing 10 minutes
- Her just barely missing her train and losing ANOTHER 10 minutes
- Her being extremely frustrated and stressed before even getting to work
- My having to ask my boss for a 10-minute break just to bike over and get the car.

So all a big, stressful mess this morning, all because sometimes, your boss actually needs you to be doing something.

Pesky bosses!

Just keep watching TL...Purple Man (Tenant did a great job with this character) was morally awful before this point in the season, but right about this point is where he starts getting desperate and cruel (more cruel...by his depraved standards).

He had two quasi-nearly-almost-redeemable-moments: one with the shotgun family and one in the one room with "family" members.

It sucks that he never lived up to those.

Ah, well.

And yes: the actors are all doing a fabulous job.
